What kind of animal was your first pet? What was its name? How old were you?
I was probably around six years old when I got my first pets - a tank full of fish from my father. It was a 30 gallon community freshwater tank, with a few albino cory cats, and Zebra and Neon tetras. We kept that tank, rotating in different kinds of fish, until I was 14. I fully intend to have another fish tank when I get my first house.

Hee, that's cute. I like Lucky the black cat - very clever. Did you pick the names?

My first pet was a gorgeous pure white long haired himalayan-persian cat, I picked her out from some people selling kittens at a flea market when I was only 2! Apparently I saw her and declared "Mommy, I want that one!" And she was with us for 15 years. A year or two after she passed my parents got another cat, a very friendly and affectionate (but occasionally kinda dumb) black male. I've also had a dwarf rabbit in the past. My only current pet now is my Chilean rose tarantula, whom my husband named "Babe" after watching her make a pig out of herself and trying to cram two whole crickets into her little mouth simultaneously!

My first pet was a beagle sized mixed breed dog that I named Mickey. I was about 6 years old when Mickey arrived at our house as a puppy. Mickey and I grew up together. He was sad when I was sad and happy when I was happy. He was my constant companion up through Junior High School. He had a bad habit of chasing cars which eventually brought his life to a close. His funniest habit was catching frogs. He would bark and bark at them and he would pick them up in his mouth and shake them! This would cause him to foam at the mouth like a mad dog! All the neighborhood kids would scream and run to get away from him for fear of getting slobber all over them! It was quite a site, but poor froggies!

Hee! That's a funny story about the frogs, even though I bet it wasn't funny to the frogs. Thanks for your response!

My first pet was a turtle I found outside. He was just a little thing, about the size of a belt buckle. I was highly allergic to furred animals when I was small, so a turtle was perfect. His name was Boardwalk, because that's where I found him. My first interactive pet was a stray kitten I found when I was about thirteen (by then the allergies had pretty much abated). She was so thin her ribs were sticking out. We had her for about 15 years....I still miss her.

I had a brown and white long haired cat and her name was Tammy. We had to keep her at my grandma's house though. If you want to know about the first pet that was all mine and that lived with me - that would be my pet rabbit - his name for short was Bun Buns. I had some really long extravagent name for him but we all just called him Bun Buns. He had a really sweet set up. We let him out in the yard all the time to eat clover. He always got our carrot peelings and other salad fixings. He was silver, white and gray. He lived a very long life.... and loved chewing the feet off my barbies.

One of my friends has a rabbit named Bun Buns. Hehe. It's nice that you treated him well - a lot of rabbit owners just put them in a hutch and forget about them. Thanks for your response!

My first pet was... a hedgehog. :) I was 6 years old. My uncle found him at the park when he returned from a work. It was hurt... I named him Ezsha and was carring for him for some months... I loved him much! Ezsha was so cute and funny. But when he recovered I returned him back to the forest. Oh, I was so crying doing that, watching how he was running away from me, running to the forest...

My family had a lot of pets when i was little, but i couldn't consider those to be 'my' pets. I guess that the first pet my family let me have as my own were the three gerbils that we bought. I can't remember their names, but they soon multiplied until we had about 12 in the house, lol! We made sure to keep the genders seperated after that, let me tell you. I also owned two hamsters, and a rabbit, that were pets that I wanted and that my family let me have. And two different kittens.

My first pet was a budgie. One of our neighbours bred them and me and my sister pestered my dad for one until he finally agreed.
Its name was Jamie after our favourite TV program Jamie and the Magic Torch.
I was 7 years old.
I haven't got a photo of him, but he looked a bit like the one I have attached.

My first 'pet' was really around before I was even born, but he still qualifies, right?
It was a very large (show quality vs. field quality, which makes a big difference in size and build) English Setter named Shaky. To me as a child he was a giant, but incredibly gentle - he could even sit in my playpen with me and live with me crawling all over him. He was a constant presence in my early life.

My parents always had animals, so there were pets in our house for as long as I can remember. The first one I really remember was Shelley, a female boxer dog. She was very docile, and I used to ride on her back when I was about 2 years old. We also had a black and white cat called Suzi.
