I have done this!!!
I have two Natural, no meds. These were the quickest births I had.
I had one with Demerol.
And I had one with Stadol followed by an epidural- which I regret because even though it took the pain away, it also interfered with the urge to push and made this phase of birth take longer.

I think that no meds is what is best health and recovery wise for both mom and baby. However, there is no shame in using meds if you need to. My fist one was natural, my second was a c-section, I am pregnant again and I don't know if I will be able to go natural because I got pregnant 6 months after my last one, so I may have to have another c-section I find out Weds.

I had two births with no meds, but don't think I can say what's best for everyone. I was lucky that my births went smoothly, but if a woman is having complications or a difficult labor I don't think she should feel any shame in asking for pain relief. The main goal of birth should be a healthy baby at the end, no matter what happens.
