3 weeks ago I posted a story about my neighbor who put a note on my door asking me to stop feeding the birds. She was tired of washing bird poop off her car*wha, wha*
http://www.mylot.com/w/discussions/651174.aspx
Well as many of you suggested I just ignored it. Well about 10 minutes ago I went out to fill one of my feeders. There she was on her deck, throwing bread out for the birds. I stood there staring and sqinting thinkiing surely I am halucinating...Then she looked over and waved. I just waved back with I'm sure a puzzled look on my face.
I think she's lost her everloving mind....maybe she figures if you can't beat'em, join'em. Seems pretty strange to me.

Is her car parked under where you are feeding the birds? If so it makes sense for her to ask you to stop, otherwise I'd keep ignoring it too...especially if now she's feeding the birds!
My husband and I are getting a bit annoyed with the neighbors above us who put a bird feeder on their deck. Now ours is always covered in bird seed. We arn't going to say anything yet, but if we start having a problem with our deck being covered in bird poop we're going to have to ask them to remove it.
I hope it doesn't become a problem though because our neighbors are really sweet and I'd hate to ask them to move it when I know they enjoy watching the birds.

I think the neighbor should understand and realize that people have the right to feed birds or any animal.maybe the neighbor needs a hobby.but when you think about it,maybe she needs to get out more and enjoy life like enjoy the love of nature.

Perhaps you could ask them to put it on a hook that overhangs enough that seed won't fall on your deck? I understand your neighbors are very sweet and you like them and everything but you shouldn't have to add an extra cleaning chore to your list. I would tell them about it falling all over your deck and watch how fast a good neighbor will do something to accomodate you. When my eldest was little, the neighbors dogs would come and do their duty in our yard, he would drag it in on his lil shoes.......you get the picture. I let my neighbors know what was happening and inside a week they had a fence up to keep their dogs(little dogs) out of my yard. It never occured to them that their dogs were coming to my yard. :)

Another idea is to use no waste seed. It is already shelled so you don't have all the seed hulls everywhere. I use that on my window feeder so my flower bed below doesn't get all filled with empty hulls.

Well that is just weird. At least now though she can't say anything more to you cause she is feeding them herself. Unless she did try to talk to someone about it and they laughed her out of the building, but it's good to know that you won't have any problems with her in the future at least I hope.

Ha-ha-ha!
I said she was probably having a bad day and was ashamed of her bullying behaviour, good job you ignored it.
Just be aware that she may be a picnic basket short of a day out or even have a split personality, at least you seem to have been forgiven just continie as if non of this ever happened.
People are so strange!

Maybe she was having a bad day when she complained to you about the bird poop. Maybe she just wanted to have a reason to talk to you.... Who knows. That is funny though that you see her out there feeding them. Well, now it is safe to say that you certainly have something to say to her if she complains about it again.

Well we have other feeders in the neighborhood, but none have been there as long as ours. We have had them for over 30 years..lol We never have a shortage of birds that's for sure.

Well that's a possibility I hadn't thought of. I don't really know her well enough to even know if she drinks, but anything is possible...lol

I was glad to see an update, I was wondering how things turned out for you. I'm wondering how old this woman is and if maybe she is having some senility problems. I'm glad to hear she isn't giving you anymore problems, that is right now! Are you sure you had the right neighbor?

haaa.. haaa.. haaa... that is so funny... may be you are right... she may thinks that if she can't beat you, then mighty as well join you... she might be curious of how it feels to feed the birds... :-) anyway, that is a good thing... now she won't nag at you again for feeding the birds... :-) thanks for sharing the update with us...

Too funny. We have a neighbor that would never speak to us. He wouldn't raise his hand to wave hello. Last week my husband walked to the mailbox and the guy said hello, commented on the weather. My husband nearly fell over.

I probably would have blurted out "Ha, are you talking to me?" Then both feet would have fallen out of my mouth and all would be okay...lol

thats kind of funny. yeah, maybe she talked to some people and they told her she was being stupid. or she thought if she fed the birds on her side, they would poop on your side...who knows. but at least she stopped complaining anymore and thats always a good thing.

Maybe she's got a split personality or something. What a weird lady. Oh well, you shouldn't get any notes from her this week anyhow.

I am so glad for you, as I imagine you didn't want to have to go to any extremes! I wonder what on Earth caused the change in attitude? Perhaps she saw that she wasn't going to get her way and threw in the towel. (and bread!)

actually she is trying to kill the birds if you feed birds, geese, ducks, bread when they consume water the bread starts to swell in their stomachs and bursts their innards. I was told this by a fellow that feeds ducks by our lake and he is always telling people never feed the birds geese or ducks any thing but grain, that is the only thing that they can digest properly. So don't thank her just yet

I am so glad, I think, for you. At least your neighborhood birds will not be going hungry. Could it have been another neighbor trying to stir up trouble between the two of you. Just because the name on the note said it was Mrs. Jones, does not necessarily mean it really was Mrs. Jones. I think she must have been having a bad day, and taken it out on you.

I hope there isn't anything in the bread. That is what people do downtown. They poison them. That would be so mean. Especially since you enjoy them.
Keep us posted

I'd give her the benefit of the doubt. Maybe she just objected to your feeding the birds because their flight path to your feeder took them right over her car.
When she feeds them their flight path takes them over a more acceptable area for her..... or maybe it was one of her other personalities that wrote the note.

I think that it is nice of you to feed the birds cause after all, they are a beautiful part of nature. As for the neighbor goes, maybe she figured that she could stop the you have for birds.
