Do you EXPECT anything on your birthday?

Today's my birthday, and I wish I could cower and hide. But I know people who have expectations on their birthdays - like they want to have a cake, and expect their husband's to buy them presents and flowers, or whatever.
What do you expect on your birthday?

I expect to have a good day. My day is a day for enjoying it however it will end up. Usually we head down state to an Ice Cream Festival. A bit of flea market shopping and good food. Classic cars and the ducks on the pond. Spend it usually with my Mom and that makes it grand. We do a cake of the birthday persons choice and then as soon as possible we choose a place to eat out. I think I want Steak and Shake this year.

Awww I'm sorry you don't want to really celebrate your birthday, cassidy22, but please accept my very best wishes all the same, ok? :)
I don't really have expectations for my birthday... the most I really want is a card from my husband, well thought-out and chosen with some care. I'm touched by the sentiments of the day much more than gifts. We always do cakes in our house, candles, the works... and everyone gets that.
My mom was terrible for expectations, I have to admit. When her birthday was coming, she would remind us almost a month ahead of time, there were constant reminders throughout that month, we'd get hints for gifts and then, the actual day, she got washed and dressed and did nothing else because it was her birthday. That was just how she felt about it. She wanted her one special day a year and she enjoyed it thoroughly. We used to tease her all the time about her birthday "demands" but we were really happy to please her.
I think whatever you're comfortable with is what you should have ... and most family and friends will abide by that, if they know.

I wouldn't say "except"
I'd like to see my father gather around me and you know make a fuss of my special day. I don't care about money or presents they are nice but i've grown out of wanting these things. I only want my family around me, oh maybe a cake. I never grow out of wanting a good old cake.
Nothing else.
Just my family. friends and a laugh.
Kudos!

Hi cassidy22, erm happy birthday! If you don't want anything or you don't want to celebrate, then do what I do and don't tell anyone it's your birthday, men usually forget and it's usually only your parents and your best friend that remembers. I would prefer not to celebrate it, then I can pretend to be 21 forever!
