Does your star rating discourage you from using myLot?

Just wondering if your star rating has any effect on how you feel about myLot in general? I know that a lot of people say that they don't care what people think, but honestly I don't know if I've ever abused myLot guidelines (I'm pretty sure that I don't) and yet my star rating keeps on dropping. It gets a little discouraging really!
How do you feel? Does your rating effect the way you feel about myLot?

At one point it was really discouraging me, too, imadriscoll. I even posted about it at the time. But the users of the site gathered around me and uplifted my spirits so much. Even though my rating is still climbing it's way back up from the ashes, I am probably happier to be here (in a community sense) than I ever have been, because of the wonderful people that I met and became closer to when I was feeling down a couple of times these past two weeks and let my feelings out a bit here on the site. I still crave for my star to climb back up to a 10.. I'd be pretty happy even with a nine.. but I am still happy here, either way. I really hope that you, too, will feel better in time. I enjoy your posts a lot and really want you to stick around! ^_^

I also dont know why my ratings go down by 1 what I know is I still keep on giving good post and response for atleast 2 to 4 or even more line if I'm really interested on the topic and yet my ratings still go down and I dont know why but I dont want to worry about it I just want to use the site and earn for a little.

I must admit that I check my rating often just to make sure it is still good. But and I mean this sincerly, I do not care what rating my friends have when it comes to reading and commenting on their discussions. If it is something that I am interested in I read it and I comment on it. I always rate yours a positive and I do my other friends because if I take the time to read it than I think it is worth reading and it deserves a positive even if I disagree with the thought in it. Hope that made sense!
I would read your discussions even if your rating went down to a 1.

Thank you for the encouragement! I know that it doesn't matter and there are so many great people that I've met here. Perhaps I've lost perspective a little bit! I really think that myLot has stretched me and given me opportunity to befriend a lot of people that I would have never had the opportunity to otherwise meet!

No I don't worry about my stars. When I first started getting stars I was happy but then I found that when I would post a different opinion that the person who posted the discussion my stars went down. Now I don't even look at the stars. I am sorry that people feel that they should give you a negative mark because you don't agree with their thing. I like the site very much and will continue to state my opinion.

The rating system was never intended to be used in that manner, but sadly it is something that will always prevail to some degree.
Personally I rate the discussions and responses according to their content, and would happily give a +ve rating to a well presented response that totally disagreed with me.

ok, its nice to have a high rating, it does feel good, like your not the only one thinking a certain way. but if and when i do get poor ratings, i dont get upset or anything, after all, its just ratings. im not going to cry about having what i have or that someone finds my responses disagreeable.

I am still new here so I am not gonna complain about my star rating yet. I dont know why your stars would go down. You seem to be doin ok here.I have heard that there are people who mark down just for a laugh. Not sure if its true, but I always try to rate the way I see it. If a person tries to give an answer to a discussuion with some thought to it. I'll rate them positive.

I gave up caring a long time ago. This place has gone downhill with some of the changes made here. The star ratings do nothing to encourage quality content.

Honestly, it hasn't mattered to me. It doesn't make a difference either when am responding to others. If it is a good topic that I am interested in, I answer. It is just a number.

I kinda touched on this in your other discussion. LOL Sorry.
Yes, I think for those that try to have a good Star Reputation it can be very discouraging. One works hard and follows the guidelines to the best of one's knowledge and the Reputation still falls. Why?
Well, the responses are of still high quality...that can't be it.
One posts quality discussions also...that can't be it.
You have even given up responding to discussions that you have differing opinions with because that might get you a negative rating...that can't be it.
So, if one cares about the reputation because one has been putting forth the effort...I would think that it would definitely discourage the feeling of myLot.
And even though I started out at 100...I have found that I have dropped and then gone back up. But I have done nothing different! I am such a perfectionist, it really bothers me! LOL
I wish they would have never started the Star Reputation!!!

I have dropped another 11 points overnight!
I guess someone does not like me that the person is going thru my discussions and marking me with a negative. I really hate this dang system! Someone doesn't like what you say and they can take out their anger by rating you with a bunch of negatives!

I honestly don't care about my star rating. I do my best to give honest answers to the discussions I respond to and I try to give really good advice. If there are some people out there who have a problem with the answers I give, then it's their perrogative to give me a negative rating. I have met some wonderful people on this site and received some of the best advice ever so I'll just keep on posting and if people don't like what I say well that's their problem, lol. They don't affect me at all by giving me negative ratings. I don't think I've ever abused the guidelines here at mylot either.

I'm not surprised you feel a bit disheartened. I am lucky as mine took a small drop a couple of days ago but otherwise has always been going up. I think if it just dropped a little bit I wouldn't be worried but if it was 7 or below for a long time I would probably consider leaving, but that would also depend on whether it seemed to affect my earnings significantly.

I am also a newbie here and I think I can take that star rating if I reached the 100 post. And I don't know what is my first star rating if I have that soon.

So far my star rating has not changed since it was first introduced, although it could change at any time as far as I know.
I doubt if the movement of rating would deter me from using Mylot, although I would be disappointed to find that my posts were suddenly considered to be of a lesser value. It would be difficult to actually decide why the rating had changed. If I believed that my rating had fallen because of the standard of my posts then I would try to correct the issue. However, it could be a case of someone simply not liking my opinion and deciding to rate me accordingly, in which case there would be no way to avoid it.

I think it is part and parcel of human nature to want to be the best we can be, and for this to be recognised by others. While we are not here for this purpose, we are interested in our rating, and it would hurt to see it go down.
Well, I can't help your star rating, except by giving you "+"s which I always do, but I can recognise your brilliance in your responses. Even in discussions I am not interested in, or feel I have nothing to contribute to, I read your responses, because they are always so good, logical and to the point.
Keep on doing what you do so well, and regardless of your rating, know that you are respected by a lot of myLotters.
I give you a special award!

it was very encouraging for me when i got my first star and it has 8 as its rating. then it went up to 9. it really inspired me to post more quality responses. so, i guess if my rating go down it will also affect me. i just pray it doesn't happen.

I would love to increase my star rating, but it isn't an all-consuming desire. I think it would be pretty cool to be a ten one day! That's a goal of mine. But don't be discouraged!! I love your posts, and I'm sure that your rating will climb right back up in no time!

Not at all.
I use mylot and i'm a proud member to be here. The only thing which matters to me is the respect of follow members here and those who grown to care about me like i have for them.
Also i admit i did want it to grow and have enjoyed watching myself go from 7-8-9 and back to a 8 and now it's up again. i wouldn't say it makes me not want to spend time here because it's a image and a number which means very little compared to what friends do.
Kudos!
~Joey
