Shocked

Ok, I have to admit, I'm very surprised. I thought I would go over the guidelines again for this site as someone started a discussion about it earlier and I thought it was a great idea just to see if anything had been updated there. Ok, I don't think anything was updated, I think I missed this the first time around, but under the list of DON'T it says :
Thank everyone that responds or comments on your discussion. This will not increase your earnings.
Not that I think thanking people for responding had anything to do with my earnings, but I was rather shocked. I like to let people know that I have read their responses to my question. If we are not suppose to thank them, then what can we do to show people we have read their response? There are times when someone agrees with what I've said, how else can you comment on that other than to say Thank you? All suggestions are welcome but please do not be offended if I don't post a message saying thanks for your response. I promise you all I will read them and rate all responses.

I think they might be saying is to say more than thank you and actually comment on the response. I know it's hard because sometimes you just don't have a comment other than "thank you". I don't want people to think I ignored them, so I always respond back.

I always try to respond as well, just sometimes I'm not really sure what to say if they've agreed with me, lol.

I took that as Mylot telling us just that , that doing it won't increase your earnings but I didn't take it that they are saying you shouldn't do it after all a discussion is a discussion, I think it is nice to do.

Ok, well I like your understanding of it better than mine so thanks for the response, lol. Maybe you are right. I never thought it increased our earnings but I don't want to be penalized for saying thanks for your comment in my discussion.

I agree, they are saying that allthough it is a great idea to reply to your responses you will not get paid for doing so..so basically if your only doing it for the money your wasting your time :) I myself try and respond to all but yes it can be difficult. Thanks :0

I try to reply to all my responses too. It may not be individually, but maybe a longer reply that addresses what several people have said. I definitely reply when someone doesn't answer the question I was asking. Then I will say something about the fact that they misunderstood the question and here's what I was really asking. Sometimes, not too terribly often, a discussion will generate way too many responses and there is no way possible to respond to all that replied to the question.
I wish there was a way to close a question when it has plenty of responses.

Yes it would be nice to close a question which has tons of responses, but I do think that's what the purpose of choosing a best response is suppose to be for. It's just that we don't use it in that manner. That's what I think anyway.

I think Its up to you if you want to leave a reply to any replies left on your discussions, but like MyLot said you wont be paid for them, which is a bit silly as this is sposed to be a discussion site!
Anyway I think they meant they don't want pages and pages of people just saying a one word of 'Thankyou.'
If someone leaves me a question or a very good reply, I think its only good manners to reply back to them, but i don't leave a lot of comments as its just too time consuming.

I'm pretty sure they are just saying we don't get any $$ for responding to our respondents of our posts. Wow-- is that a mouthful. I try to respond to most comments. If it was really helpful, I always do. I tend to answer more discussions when I know the person responds as well. Otherwise I get the feeling people are just posting to get more $$. I like to have some interaction.
So I'm going to keep on commenting on people who respond to me. I also rate people.

Yes I'm going to continue commenting as well, I guess I'll just have to think harder to come up with a response for those one-liners or the ones that have just agreed with me.

I have a feeling that what it really means is that the way they calculate earnings, those replies to your responses would make a double earning.
That does make some sense, if you consider that if you get 90 replies, and just do a one liner for each one, you'd double your earnings.
The economics of that are fair enough. If everyone did that it would increase payout pretty dramatically, which doesn't make much business sense for myLot.
Actually, that DON'T is good practice on a forum.
It's realistic, because the standard reply becomes devalued, and you really don't have to do it.
I posted on something a couple of days ago, and this guy replied to every single response with the same cut and paste! It was horrendous. (I got the standard reply, too, and I'd disagreed with just about every word he posted.)
To say specifically that it won't increase your earnings is at least honest. Particularly when you see so many people with some pretty strange expectations about their earnings.
Matter of fact, I like replying to responses, and it really doesn't bother me.

Well you've made some good points, but I didn't think it would double our earnings as it doesn't count towards our post count. I like replying too :)

You're right. When I first joined, I wasn't so good about coming back to comment on my responses, and therefore I didn't end up with a lot. But in time I learned the tricks of the trade so to speak, and now it is a much more enjoyable site for me.

In the beginning I commented on everyone's response. But as my discussions grew and my responses grew I found I just couldn't do this and have time to post too. So, I always read my comments and I comment on one or two. At least one per page, so people will know I have read that page and rated them. So far it is working out fine for me.

That seems to be a good way to do it. I don't often start discussions so it's very seldom I have to worry about having to many responses to comment on.

you can just rate them positive that is a sign that you have read them and acknowledged their effort.if you have a lot of questions then it would be very impossible for you to rate all of them.try making good quality questions ,limit it to a minimum.what is the use of posting so many questions just to make an earn but you have forgotten to take care all of it, remeber it is like maintaining friends.we can only handle so much. let's just have fun making friends!and earn more in some ways ,anyway we get paid for a cent just to shre with friends

I remembered reading that somewhere but took it to mean that we could say thank you but that we would not be recieving anything for it . I don't mind not recieving anything for it as it is on our own time but like to let ohter's know that I appreciated them taking the time out to answer my post .

You can respond by adding something to their comment or asking them a question for further details. They just don't want to see discussions with responces of simple "Thank you for your responce" because truely that doesn't add to the quality of the discussion.
If someone makes a good point you can respond by saying that it is a good point and maybe a sentence stating why. Maybe someone brings up something you hadn't thought of, then respond that you like/don't like the idea and you were surprised you never thought of it like that before.... You know what I mean? It still shows that you read their comments but also adds more to the conversation. :)

Yes this is true, just that when people agree with me and give their reasons why then I find it difficult, especially if their reasons are the same as mine, to say more than thanks. But I'm going to work on coming up with some clever responses. It's my goal for the day.

Wow maybe i should check out the rules aswell... so many people tell me they earn from replying and i do reply just out of courtesy sometimes...
Obviously i dont reply to all because i cant there are sometimes too many for me to reply to but i hope it doesnt affect your earnings as in it makes them go down?
I didnt think it affected my earnings as in increasing them i just thought it was nice to reply to people..
Thank you for letting me know whats going on... I really would have probably started to belive you get paid for responding to people on my own discussions as there are loads of people who say you do earn from it.. Now i feel stupid ha ha ha Peace xXx

lol, you shouldn't feel stupid about it. I guess it goes to show a lot of us don't really pay all that much attention to the rules, myself included :(

I was kind of shocked when I read the do's and don't as well. However, I still do it coz i think it is only courteous to at least acknowledge the responses to my discussion, unless of course the answers does not make sense or is similar to answers that have already been given in the thread. It's definitely won't increase posting count since all of us know that responses within the same thread in not counted. So I'll just do it anyway.. perhaps with a bit of additional comments just to make it different :)

Yes, I knew it didn't change my post count, but as you said I believe it is only courteous as well.

I find that totally acceptable. This way they dont get a huge amount of thanks, leading no way in the discussion. Think about it:
One discussion gets 50 replies.
An eager thank you poster would write the same 49 times. Should that count towards his or her earnings?
I find that ridicoulous!

Well no, I was under the impression it doesn't count towards our earnings when we simply post a comment.

I don't thank everyone who responds. I do however like to give a comment on something they said if it was useful to me or sometimes they ask a question back.
I think it is rude not to give any comment at all to some replies.

I am on the same page with everyone else. I never thought of thanking people to increase my earnings. I just thought that was a nice thing to do. The person chose your discussion out of all these other discussions they could chose from. I think a thank you to them is the proper and kind thing to do.
