Breast feeding

Japan

My family and I went to a popular brand name department store that we love on our last trip to the states. In the first 10 minutes there, my 1 year old son started crying and jesturing for his Mom to breast feed him. She was off somewhere having a great time looking for stuff to buy. When I found her and told her that our son was hungry she was about to breast feed him on 1 of the stores sofas, in public. While this kind of thing is somewhat okat in Japan, I told not to do it because she could just use a fitting room. My first question is............Is breast feeding in a public place acceptable?? So I asked a salesclerk if my wife could use a fitting room to breast feed in private. Mind you we had just got there and my wife hadn't picked out anything to try on yet. After waiting several minutes while my son continued to scream, I asked another salesclerk the same thing. After another wait, I started to get pissed, I asked for a manager, who after another wait, told me that only 1 person was allowed in a fitting room at a time. It was store policy. Meanwhile my son is still screaming, I asked for the main manager. He then proceeded to tell me the same store policy BUT we could go down to SEARS where they had a family restroom. I went off! We left the store, didn't buy anything( although my wife and I love heir stuff) went to Sears and continued shopping. After Sears, we went to Neiman Marcus, high end, classy Neiman Marcus and I asked their customer service if my wife could breast feed our son in their fitting room. Guess what they said.................................................Uh sure, of coarse. They looked at me like I was asking a super ridiculous question. Second question..................How do you feel about a store refusing the use of their own fitting rooms for breast feeding and suggesting another store for that purpose, and please come back to our store after so you can spend your money here and not there? We are sooooo sorry but it's against store policy to allow more than 1 person in a fitting room at a time!?!?!???

I think it is ridiculous that the store didn't let you feed in the changing room. They should have offered the sofas too as there is no reason why you should have to lock yourself away to feed your baby.
