I usually switch my television on when i am going to sleep. I will make a timer for about 60 minutes and then it can off itselves, because i can't sleep if there is any voice or music on my room ;).

The first consideration is psychological: Recognize that you're not being lazy; napping will make you more productive and more alert after you wake up. So switch off the music always .

I usually don't turn anything on when I lay down to sleep. I like to have total silence other than my oscillating fan turning back and forth and blowing air out. They are doing construction in my neighborhood every day of the week and the noise from that drives me crazy. They have been at it for 2 years now and still ain't no where near done. It drives me nuts with all the noise and my house vibrating from the machinery they run.

I fall asleep better with some background noise and lights - like the TV, but my husband can't fall asleep with it on. So I don't sleep with the tv or radio on. If he's already asleep and I'm having trouble falling asleep I might turn it on really low and set the sleep timer for 30-60 minutes and fall asleep.

i usually do that when i'm still in college. because i am afraid of silence when i'm about to sleep and i'm alone in the room. it gives me creepy thoughts. same way like yours i also put a timer so that it automatically turns off when im asleep.

Peace and Quiet for me all the way.... although I do not mind watching TV in the bedroom before I goto sleep, piece and quiet are the most important when trying to get into a good REM cycle..... I find that going to sleep or sleeping with noise in the back groud always gives me a head ache in the mornings....
