No this post is not about some new diet plan or anything like that. I am just joyous that I had managed to loose the weight without doing anything special other than what I am doing now.
I have never been one to be conventional, I never had a problem with my weight though until I turned 30, I am now 32 and a few months ago I had blown up from 118 lbs to 152. Mind you I have had a gym membership for the last 6 mos and I managed to go anywhere from 2-4 times a week most weeks, except right around the holidays. I got sick with the nastiest little bronchial infection that hung around for a few weeks, then I had a case of the "blue flu" for most of the month of December and so I ate, and I ate, and I indulged in my egg nog addiction which can only be satisfied at that time of year. Long and short of it by January I was up to 152 pounds. I decided that was it I had had it. I started doing push ups and situps, and still going to the gym 2-4 times a week but I am no longer focused on working out to control my weight. I recognized that you have to control your eating and the amount of it that you do for there to be weight loss and adhearing to a healthy but normal diet will take you much further to a healthy life because it can be maintained easily.
I'm back baby!

Well I haven't completely stopped eating like I did when I was 14 and ended up getting checked into Charter Hospital and treated for anorexia. I am just eating much smaller portions only once a day and taking slim shakes twice a day.

GO SHARON!!! thats fabulous!! I started workign out again last week and lost 3 lbs already (though I only managed to workout 2 this past week but I will be tomorrow)..During my preg with my youngest then all the depression, drinking disgusting amounts daily etc etc I ballooned! to mass proportions actually LOL My goal is to lose 30 or 40 lbs by summer..so far since my bday I've lost 13 but like you over the holidays, being sick etc etc I've been a complete slacker until last week..
I hear ya too on the controling ones eating...I've never been a HUGE eater but when I'm depressed and during my monthly "mensies" I have HORRID eating habits..and its amazing too how less sluggish and crappy I feel when I eat cleaner too..I had no idea until last weekend how much the TYPE of foods I was eating was really affecting me physically in so many ways....then last saturday I pigged out and wow did I ever feel it!
Anyway...Congrats Sharon! keep it up!!

Ah yes the lost glory days of food! We can't do that no more that is for sure.Ever since I turned thirty my weight has either been on the way up or back on the way down, with little or no leveling out.

another thing too that I've noticed over the yrs is the older I get the quicker I gain and the harder it is to lose..I'm well on my way to being 40 (37 this yr) and holy hell my metabolism is SO different now compared to even just 8 - 10 yrs ago ya know and there is no comparison to when I was in my late teens and early 20s...I was mad crazy skinny then and could eat everyting under the sun LOL

Congratulations on your weight loss! 17 pounds in that amount of time is a huge achievement! Are you sure your not loosing weight too fast though? My doctor told me not to loose more than 2-3 pounds a week as it would be hard to maintain the weight loss and could be unhealthy. My diets not going great- i've only lost 5 pounds in the last 3 weeks! Well done again :)

Part of it was that water weight gain that we do monthly and the rest of it is the puppy fat that I put on. However I am gardening and going to the gym and doing situps and pushups at home which all contributes to helping the body metabolize the fat.

Wow, you've lost a lot of weight in only three weeks. Be careful though because losing too much weight fast can be bad for your body. Plus you might gain more weight fast if you don't continue how your lifestyle is now. But congrats on the weight lost :)

It was weight that my body was not used to carrying. I have been a natural size 5-6 since I was 14 years old even after having 4 children so the fact that it has melted quickly away is fantastic for me!

good for you .... you go girl ... we all have times where we use food for comfort from the blues ... some of us gain and some of us dont ... but you're back and its all good ... i too lost 50+ lbs a few years ago ... and i just ate half of what i normally ate and it took the weight off .. excerice is to keep ya fit ... heart lungs etc as well of course mold your body to be the shape you want ... and excerice can help so you can eat a bit more and burn it off at the same time ....so however you chose to lose it ...its all good
just wanted to say good job ...

Oh wowww!! Way to go sharone:) I'm on the weight loss track too and I realized its not only exercise that helps, but cutting down on the quantity we eat is equally important. So now I've drastically cut down on the portions (healthy portions though)and no sweets, candies,or ice creams. I eat healthy and am working out in the gym 5 times a week. I have also signed up for personal training sessions to keep me motivated. I hope to lose atleast 10-12 pounds soon. Your story is inspiring!:)

Thanks Donna, you are fabulous and I appreciate the vote of confidence. I have gotten kind of a mixed bag of responses on the weight loss, from incredulity to jealousy, to disbelief, there are several people that think that it is not healthy but this is the way that I always lose weight. FAST!

This article maybe helpful:
Experts say if you have to choose between a diet or exercise to lose weight, choose exercise. A new study suggests it's better to hit the weight room than cut back on how much you eat.
And although the goal is the same -- use more energy than you stockpile -- working out has more benefits.
People who exercise tend to be stronger, have more muscle mass, and an increased aerobic capacity. Dieters tend to lose muscle mass and strength.
"If push comes to shove and somebody wants to know if they should diet or exercise to lose weight, I would suggest exercise, provided they are willing to put in the extra time and effort and not offset the gains they make by eating more," said study lead author Edward Weiss, a researcher at Saint Louis University's Doisy College of Health Sciences.
Weiss and his colleagues studied 34 people between the ages of 50 and 60 who were in the high end of normal weight or overweight. Of the participants, 18 dieted while 16 exercised.
The dieters reduced their calorie intake by 16 percent the first three months and 20 percent for the next nine months. The exercise group worked out to burn 16 percent more calories the first three months and 20 percent the following nine months.
Both groups lost around 9 to 10 percent of their body weight. But the dieters lost muscle mass, while the exercisers did not.
"It's important that dieting not be seen as a bad thing because it provides enormous benefits with respect to reducing the risk of disease and is effective for weight loss," Weiss said. "Furthermore, based on studies in rodents, there is a real possibility that calorie restriction provides benefits that cannot be achieved through exercise-induced weight loss."
The study is detailed in an online edition of the Journal of Applied Physiology.

Thank you for that, I just did an entire research paper for one of my classes on the benefits of healthy lifestyle choices and the reason that I have lost so much is probably because I am doing both exercise and healthier diet.

I think the older we get the mor weight we tend to gain. I have noticed that my eating habits have not changed and my lifes tyle has not changed and my pounds seem to creeeping up on me. So, now i either eat les or excercise more. Old age is just creepy!!! Congrats to you by the way!!!
