Sheboygan police arrested a woman after she allegedly left her two children in a freezing car for 20 minutes while she went tanning.
The 27-year-old woman was arrested after two people spotted the children, ages 23 months and 10 years, in the car, the police department said in a news release. The vehicle was locked but not running.
Officers responding to the scene Wednesday evening were approached by the children's parents. The father met the mother at the tanning salon and was arguing with her about why the children were in the car, police said.
The children were dressed warmly, but they had "goose bumps" from the cold, the release said. They did not require medical attention.
The temperature at the time was 12 degrees, with a wind chill index of about minus 2 degrees.
The woman could be charged Friday with two counts of misdemeanor child neglect, police said.
"She said she was going on vacation and felt that the tanning was a priority," Lt. Jeff Johnston said Friday.

Why God allows these people to reproduce is beyond me. WHat a very very sad tale. She needs to have her head examined for ultraviolet over exposure!. What a sorry excuse for a Mother.
Her children I am sure would have been welcome to sit in the waiting area, I've been to tanning booths before and they do have a waiting area. So there is absolutely No excuse for that bad decision.

I agree with you about what happened to common sense these days with some of these mothers. It seems like every day now we hear a horror story about the mother mistreating her kids and am sure there are plenty of fathers out there who do the same thing as well. It is very sad. This woman is definitely nuts and sick.

It is hard to know where these parents gets their idea from. They are not capable of being a good parent. I call it cruilty to children and should be punished.

It is amazing how many terrible parents there are out there these days. This is after the incident that I posted yesterday about a mother putting her son out in the cold completely naked for bad behavior. This mother is horrible and deserves to be locked up as well with the mother of the kid that had her son out in the cold naked. Tanning is more important than her kids? She is just horrible. Nothing or nobody should be more important to a parent than their children and their children's safety. A person should never leave their kids alone in a car, whether it is freezing cold or not. I am glad to hear that the kids are okay and did not need medical attention.

Well, I hope she is charged with misdemeanor and child neglect. How could a mother do such a thing to her children! And I wonder what other way she neglects them that has gone unnoticed. She definitely doesn't deserve to have children as she has her priorities all wrong. The children would be better off in foster care.

It is beyond me why people have to go through a test to and get a license to drive a car but YET anyone can have a child with no schooling, tests, courses or licenses........... Poor kids

your right maybe its time they atart looking at this closer. Maybe classes should be mandatory since so much of this happens nowadays. What do you think about classes? I think once something like this happens, there should be a long period of evaluations and trainings and also alittle physcotherapy....

I hope to goodness they take the children away for a while and make her go to some parenting clases in lieu of vacation. She really needs a wakeup call. If she was brave enough to do this type of neglect and not see it as a probelem, imagine what else she likely does to the kids!?! Makes my blood boil.

Yeah, unfortunately some parents have no brain. I had to go to court one time when a young mother left her 6 month old in a running car in 95 degree weather while she went into a Super Walmart. She was in there over 20 minutes by the time I parked beside her..and we waited another 10 minutes on the police, and then they waited about 15 minutes before having to run her license plate and page her in the store!!! She didn't get any jail time over it either...it's rediculous!!!!

Some people really should not have kids. Why didn't she just take them inside with her if tanning was so important? Most tanning salons have waiting areas. And the 10 year old could have watched the youngest child. They just don't think- I'll bundle up my kids and leave them in the car- Oh my... I never leave my daughter in the car and she is 10.. There are way too many sickos out there. They could smash open the window and grab kids. Plus it was cold. I guess she wasn't thinking and now will face the consequences. Jail time probably.

Gosh, that's horrible! I'm not God or one to judge, but I personally don't think she deserves to have children if she's gonna do that. She's obviously a very selfish person and doesn't need keeds if she's gonna be making decisions like that.

Some people should not be allowed to breed.
Someone mentioned in the responses above about many cases of Mothers abusing or neglecting their kids. Do you think we see more "moms" in the news because there are more single parent or broken homes where there is nobody EXCEPT Mom?
Also, do you think that the broken families in our society and women trying to survive by taking on every aspect of raising the kids and earning the living by themselves is part of the reason there are more instances (or so it seems) of child neglect? I'm not implying it is an excuse...just that I think that broken homes (like mine) contribute to the degradation of society as a whole, to the the delinquency of children, and to the desperation for help that isn't there which leads (sometimes maybe?) to single parents being less responsible with their parenting than they otherwise would be?
Obviously going for "tanning" is not a requirement of supporting your family, but I was actually getting at the fact that so many moms are living in poverty with their kids and have to go to work without getting a sitter for their kids etc, due to being unable to afford it. Of course I also think that if you can't feed them, don't breed...but there are already tons of broken families out there who have not planned well and need help. The help is dwindling or non-existent, but we still expect everyone to look like The Waltons. It doesn't help any child to just point fingers and sarcasm at their parents, BUT, there is no valid excuse for neglecting a child, IMO.

It's a sad shame when parenting is the single most important thing a person can do, yet it's the only career people don't need a license to have.
Those poor kids! What a dumb woman!

Tanning is a priority. Well if her 23 month old and 10 year old are not a priority she is totaly screwed up and needs to have her head examined. I hope the father renegenes on the trip they are supposed to be going on. I hope she spends some jail time for this.

I feel for the children. they must feel so neglected, unimportant to the mother, she is such selfish and god forbid she is such a cruel mother, I'll put my life on the line if my kids were in danger in any shape or form, let alone having the kids put their life on the life for this selfish lady when she goes tanning. It is unfortunate that not all of us are good minded people who at least make and learn from their mistakes.

I hope they reported her to child's services. When I think of so many couples who can't have children and someone like her leaves her kids in the car, it makes me rather angry. It's a good thing the father had sense and gave her a dressing down. Her action was more appropriate to a teenager, not an adult woman.

the kids are far more important than anything else. that's so selfish of the mother. she should be jailed for leaving her kids.
