My oldest daughter is 5 years old and will not be turning 6 until mid May and she is half ay through grade 1 and doing rather well thankfully ... lol! She brought home a note from school today from her Teacher informing me about their Valentine's Day party with a list of all of the students names. She is my oldest so i have not had to buy Valentines Day cards until today and i have to say i was excited knowing how excted she was. When we got home i put all the snacks for the party (dry goods) in a party bag and i gave her the list of her fellow students and all darned. I was actually quite impressed that she filled out 21 cards with no mistakes, with who they are from and marked a check mark by each name as she went along all within half an hour. I guess i am just beaming as my daughter is so mature and growing up ... LOL!!!

It is so sweet when our little ones start doing things on their own. My son made out thank you cards for his friends after his birthday a couple of weeks ago. he just turned 5. I wrote "THANK YOU" on a piece of paper and put it on the table. He copied that and then wrote his name on all 11 of them. It is just amazing to see these little kids who were babies not too long ago making great strides. :)

My newphew is 5 year old...she used to celebrate valentine's day...by sending greting cards through online to her dearones..& she used to left notes in the house where her mom & dad can find & surprised in the early morning...starting a very nice day with them...calling all the relatives & saying happy valentines day..it is really wonderful to have such a day ..but i wonder it comes only once a year..isn't it bad? huh
According to me..saying I LOVE U..to our loved ones is the mantra to live a happy life..

I can remember when my oldest had her first valentine party. Having to go out and get the perfect cards. This year her class is doing something different. They are going to eating mcdonalds and getting gift bags of stuff. Next year I get to do the card thing all over again with my youngest. It's fun watching kids grow up.

Yes I do agree. Now she doesn't know the exact meaning of "valentine's day". But definitely she can feel her friends love toward her. In future it will definitely be a charming memory for her.

My daughter is celebrating her first school Valentine's day, and she is also very excited about handing out cards to all her little classmates. I know they don't understand the real meaning of it at five, but its cute to have them be so excited over something, and giving out cards makes them feel special.

Good for you, that is wonderful!!! As a mom with two wee ones not yet old enough for that, I cannot wait for holidays like these! My mother always made Valentine's day special for me and I hope to do the same for my kids. I think you should be so proud of that little one, as I am sure you are, but 21 cards and no mistakes??? That is just wonderful. Obviously you are doing a great job, give yourself a nice pat on the back.

I think that you got the definition of Valentine's Day bang on and i do not understand why soo many other people seem to think that love is only about being romantic and intimate as they feel that Valentines Day is just for adults oh well i guess that it shows they do not have children and probably shouldn't either!!

This is so cute. She's turning into quite the little party planner, isn't she? It sounds as if she's pick up some great organizational skills at home. It must be so much fun to see her so happy and having fun. Grade school is such a carefree time, and I'm glad that the schools haven't eliminated the little things like Valentine's parties. I believe in letting kids be kids; they'll grow up and face the real world soon enough!

I guess i have to say that she is alot like me when it comes to her enjoying writing and drawing. I always get her scribblers and notebooks that she is always drawing, coloring and writing in! When i watch her sit there so intune to what she is doing it always reminds me of myself!!!

LOL-- kids are so cute. My daughter is 10 and they still have Valentines parties in school- I think this is the last year though- as she moves into the "Middle school" next year- where they change classrooms for each class.
Enjoy this time with your little girl-- they grow so quickly!
My daughter just finished her cards also-- She's attaching valentine pencils this year to them. they also can send carnations to classmates for $1 each in school. It's cute..

awww that is so cute. My 5 year old doesn't know much about valentines day. When I asked her who she wanted to send a card to she mentioned a couple of boys who were apparently her 'boyfriends' but she said they didn't want to marry her yet as they might find someone else. Kids certainly grow up faster now than I did when I was young.

She has seen some people, probably you, and her teachers organize their tasks this way. It sounds like she has a natural gift for efficiency. Isn't it neat how much fun can come in a package of red and pink hearts and favorite characters!

That's adorable. Valentines Day always excited me when I was a child. I loved spending the time to sit and write all the valentines. I think that's great she took the initiative to write them all up.

This is what also made me soo proud that it brought enough excitement to get her to do them all by herself!! I also used to love writing out my Valentineis Day cards especially the part when it came to picking just which card was for each person in my class ... LOL!!!!

My daughter is 6 and she is SO excited for Valentine's Day. We have already addressed all of her cards and it did take her a while but she did very well with them. She also has to bring a showbox to school so she can decorate it to hold all of her Valentine's. That brought back memories for me, as I did that when I was in grade school.

That is adorable! I remember doing that same thing, and being very careful to not let boys get the ones my friends should get! LOL
