hi parents, are you doing this?
we don't do this because in my own opinion, it is not necessary to give our kids a big birthday party every year cause they may expect it every year in their birthday. we'll just give them a birthday party on their 1st and 7th year (a tradition here in the Philippines). But for the other years, we'll just go out and eat in a fancy restaurant and just give them a gift they will appreciate or that will make them happy.

We give our kids a [arty every year but it isnt anything big or fancy. We get them a few simple gifts and invite a few friends and family. We talk to them every time about how they should not expect anyne to give them anything as we come from a not so wealthy family. Things are very simple, I make the cake and we dont do a lot of themes or decorations. We love celebrating thier birthdays as they are a very important event in our lives. I dont think that kids should get a giant party with tons of gifts that we cant afford. Our kids know that it isnt about the gifts it is abuot celebrating your life with your family.

We had a good sized birthday party for my son's first birthday, friends and family came over for a cook-out. I think we'll probably do the same thing every year. It's a good way to get both sides of the family together and all the kids get to play together so it's a good time for everyone. I remember when I was a kid though I only had two birthday parties, one when I was in third grade and the other when I turned 16 and I was pretty disappointed with that. I don't see any reason why kids shouldn't have a birthday party every year, they don't need the circus in their backyard, but a party with friends and family is good.

I agree with you that a big party every year becomes something that they expect, and then if you can't do it for one reason or another, they're disappointed and don't understand. In our family we just have a birthday party for them with family members. We don't go out to a restaurant but have it at home. Gifts are a reasonable cost and not the latest expensive gadget. I've always thought it best to have them grow up with reasonable expectations as to this and about receiving gifts.

I don't believe in big parties for kids regardless of age. We did do one for my son's 1st birthday. We had about 10-12 people over. We're not sure yet if we're going to do another one for his 2nd birthday. Probably not. We will still celebrate, of course..but on a small-scale.
