How good are situps?

I have a big tummy and I've been doing 30 minute situps daily. How good are situps actually? I do some other workout but I'm more concerned about my tummy... how long do you think before I can notice a change? I'm just excited. I never thought situps could be so much fun.

You can have wonderful muscles from doing sit ups however if there are fat deposits you will still have a tummy. If you have a medical condition then it will contribute to that tummy. Rid the condition and they tummy should go down. Glad you enjoy the situps, exercise is good.

situps ae good to develop your abdominal muscles. but you have to do cardio also to be able to loose the fat and let your muscles show.

I am getting ready to begin a routine on both a treadmill( for the cardio) and my ab-lounge for tightening the muscles. I too would love to know how long it is going to take before I notice some difference. The biggest thing on my is my tummy and I hate it. I am really hoping to see some major results. Good luck to you as well. Keep us posted as to when you begin to see your changes.

I'd recommend instead of sit up to do crunchs. Sit ups can be hard on the back. Try laying on the floor and putting your lower legs on a couch or bed. Then do the crunch with your upper body going up towards it. This will help the upper stomach area. For the bottom part of the stomach lay on the floor, bend your knees and then bring them up to your chest and then lower them slowly. Also for the lower stomach you can lay on your back, bend your knees put but your feet and legs a couple of feet apart. Then lift your hips off the floor. It kind of looks suggestive in doing it but it does help the lower stomach.

I agree that crunches are much better than sit ups. Sit ups can also cause damage to your neck while you are pulling yourself up. Do crunches with your arms folded so they are touching the opposite shoulder to avoid hurting your neck.
