Is there a discussion starting contest going on?

So I'm wondering if there is a discussion starting contest that is going on that I'm not aware of? I don't start a lot of discussions all at one time, not sure why. Could be that I have nothing new to start, could be that some are starting enough to cover me, lol. I have just turned of my notifier for several people on my friends list, after receiving more that 20 new discussions started by these people in less than 24 hours, all most all in my opinion are just posted for the sake of posting. I can't read anymore nonsense today from these people. So my questions are: 1) What do you consider to be to many discussions started by 1 person? In what time frame? 2) Do you think that people who start this many discussions are copying and pasting from other discussion boards? 3) What are your thoughts?

It's hard to say without seeing the discussions, but if you feel that these are discussions that were started just for the sake of posting, then they probably are. I would think that 20 discussions in a day is excessive. How could the user keep up with reading all of the responses? I have a hard enough time coming up with one idea for a topic, so I wonder how someone else can come up with 20 ideas that fast. I would say that starting several (maybe up to 5) discussions in a day is reasonable, although I have never done that. It depends on how much time the person spends here. If they are quality discussions and are not stolen from other users or other forums, then I don't think that there should be a limit. You might want to review and revise your Friends list. Sometimes I have added a person and then found out through things like this that they did not share the same "values" as I did, and I had to delete them. If you feel strongly that someone is posting nonsense just for the sake of getting paid, you may not even want them as your Friends.

Thank you for your response. If all of these discussions did take off, which I doubt, how would you even keep up on the reading and rating of the responses? I have topics and discussions written out ahead of time and then pick 1 or 2 depending on my mood to post, but not even everyday, some days I just don't feel like having to respond to people that have responded to my discussions. I spend a lot of time here most days, responding to others discussions and keeping up with my own. I have turned off the notifier, but prefer not to delete, this way I don't have to worry about a request in the future.

Yup and I want to be number one. :) It does seem like it at times doesn't it? I prefer to start a discussion and then return to posting responses to others and my friends. I don't care to see the same member listed 15 times in a row with 2 seconds between questions. Unfortunately a lot of them will most likely be deleted as spammy or no content and no responses. I think I may start 4 or 5 at the most in a day. That gives my friends content to respond to and I view my friends and respond to the discussions that I like.

Thank you for responding. I think that you make perfect sense 4 or 5 is a reasonable amount. One of the ones above that I mention has started 30 discussions today. Some are just 2 minutes apart. So they have been turned off. :)

I think there are a lot of people here who don't really understand what mylot is about and especially how you get paid. It is these people who start discussion after discussion. I don't care for that. I could maybe deal with it if the discussions were worth a darn, but most of them aren't. I usually stay away from discussions when I see that the same person has strted one right after another. There is far too much good stuff on mylot for me to waste my time with all the useless discussions. I rarely start discussions but I realize that I need to. I have noticed that when I have started a discussion and it gets a good amount of responses my earnings increase. I know we earn once we get one response, but the for me the eranings are higher when I have a popular discussion. SO I prefer to stick with quality over quantity. I am working on getting better at starting and I think I am limiting myself to 5 a day. I like to get involved with my discussions, so anymore than 5 a day would just take too long to read and comment on. I do get truned off when I see someone who starts 10 or more in one day, especially if they have not responded to other people's discussions also. I think mylot is all about complete participation, not just one aspect of it. by complete I mean, strting discussions, responding to other discussions, comment on responses to your discussions, rating responses you read, reporting abuse, tagging your posts etc. Basically taking advantage of all that mylot offers. That is what I am doing anyways, except for uploading pictures. I find that too time consuming for the amount of earnings I get for them. I have uploaded a few and will continue but only if I already have a picture on my computer that goes with a discussion I am responding to. Imagine how much greater mylot would be if everyone was more concerned about quality than quantity. Oh what a dream that is.

I totally agree with sunnypub. I don't reply to peoples dicussions that are pointless topics or I just have no interest in it. I do the same things on mylot that you have just metioned, so I did not want to sound like a copier or repeat the same things you said. I like doing this for fun, and only do quality responses and discussions.

I hope one day that mylot can be an all quality site, and yes I too am staying away from posting to people that start that many discussions in a short amount of time, I don't want to waste my time posting in a discussion, even a quality one really from someone that could possibly be removed from mylot along with all their discussions. Just my thoughts on that. Thank you for all of your very valid remarks.

I found one person who had posted must have been 30 discussions in one day and answered no questions. It was like they felt by posting the discussions, they would make a their money off of people's answers. They kept posting and gave almost no feedback in their discussions and answered very few. I go in spurts, I guess my creativity flows sometimes and not others, so I may post and then not post. I think I average maybe 1 discussion a day.

Thank you for your response. I don't think that there is necassarliy a right or wrong answer, but for my in box to be filled with 87 new messages this morning and 98% belonged to 3 people that's just to much. One of them had posted 30 discussions since early this morning. Was still posting when I turned of the notifer. I just think personally that it's to much and because of some of the times the discussions were started wonder if it's copy and pasting from other sites. Just my 2 cents worth.

It does sound like something from a college class. I just don't understand why people would do such things, it's only a few pennies.

Well-maybe there poor and trying to make payout because they got bills or issues came up. Maybe they don't have a job, so there currently unemployed and need money. Maybe there sitting around with some friends coming up with ideals because they want to help themselves. Maybe it's a family. Just turn it off it's bothering you. Why do people feel they need to make fun, and complain about people? I'm seeing to many discussions dissing over simple problems that don't need to be brought out into the light espically when you can just turn the notifiers Up. I'm glad you got a discussion out of it. I like your questions-but maybe to them their not nonsense! I'm aware this is ur opinion-just there is always reasons behind someone's decisions. Lol-if a contest your friends are probably going to be the winners.

It is not just about the notifiers from your friends list. I have all of mine turned off and I still get annoyed at people who flood the site with starting discussions. It is so hard to have to sift through 7 pages of new discussions to get to a decent one because one person decided to start 100 discussions, or list 100 jokes in a span of 30 minutes. It also doens't look good for mylot when new people come here and see pages of joke after joke after joke, or discussions like what is your favorite color. The idea is to get people to want to join and if all they see are these types of discussions they might just move along. I understand that the people might be ppor and trying to make payout, but if they took the time to understand the rules, they would see that they would reach payout faster if they posted quality discussions, and responded to other discussions with quality posts. So in the end they are hurting themselves and mylot's reputation by the way they are posting. MyLot is about quality over quantity, and they pay for quality over quality, so it is best as a member to worry about quality over quantity.

Thank you very well said. I see people on here all the time with lots of posts under their belts and talking about not making payout in a 30 day period. That right there would make me say what am I doing wrong. I made payout after being here 10 days. I don't post excessively, I don't have referrals making excessive money for me, what I do, do is overall participation. I think that I have started some quality discussions, nothing excessive, quality responses, I upload pictures, I report abuse, I rate my discussions and others. I think that when you follow the rules and participate fully you are rewarded. Just my 2 cents worth.

When I first signed up on myLot last October, I accepted all requests to be on my friends list. I turned on the notifier for all those friends. Then, all of a sudden, I had an email inbox full of 100 or more emails every day to go through and respond to. My time here is limited, so I turned off the notifier and just go to Discussions my Friends Started and respond to the ones where I feel I can contribute something. I ignore the others. I would definitely consider more than 10 discussions in one day by anyone to be excessive. I'm sure many of them are copying and pasting from other discussion boards, and some are copying and pasting from other discussions on myLot. I see comments to that effect on here all the time.

I absolutely agree. I truly am thinking that there should be a limit. Night before last I was looking at the new discussions list and I kid you not in the span of 1 hour and a half this one person uploaded no less than 48 discussions all with in a minute or two of each other, and 3 to 5 were the same thing just worded differently. That is excessive.

Yes, it seems like there is a discussion contest going on as some people started disscussions. I wonder how some people start discussion, sometime I can't post that much response in a day how much discussions day would post. I slo have some friends who creat discussions in every 3-4 minutes. I had to turn the notify of. I start only three or four at the meximum. These days I am not posting that much also. If I have content for a new discussion alo I don't start more than three or four.

I usually start a couple of discussions every 2 or 3 days. Yesterday was the most I started in a single day and I did 4, 2 in the morning, one in the evening and another in the middle of the night as I couldn't sleep. I had to turn my notify off on a few 20 to 30 discussions in the same amount of time to me is ridiculous. :)

I couldn't agree with you more, and I seriously have something against it. For the love of god, I beg people to search for a topic before they post a new thread. Most of the time it's going to be an discussion already, but if not just goahead an post.

I had to do the same thing with a few people on my friends list as well. I am not sure how they get their discussions. Some just seem like random questions. I don't post many discussions because I prefer leaving comments. I pretty sure MYLOT is working on this issue so hopefully people will get the message.

Some actually copy the same discussions that I see uploaded by someone else a few days prior. Sad really.

I don't actually consider any amount of discussions posted as to many. I have turned off my notifier as I just have so many friends on my list now, I can't possibly keep up with all of them. I only answer the discussions I feel I have something to add to. I don't believe there are people copying and posting discussions from another board, but in truth, I hadn't really considered this.

Actually last week there was someone on here that had somehow set it up that he was uploading a joke every 1 to 2 min. In less than a day he had posted some 500 discussions. I reported it as abuse, and mylot sent me a thank you and said that it had been taken care of. I actually signed up at another board and saw for myself the exact same wording of discussions between the too sites.

I have never started any new topic for discussion as yet. I have been thinking that I have to do it right. Present a topic which is really worth something is one good goal. Maybe I'll do it when the proper time comes. Then I have been encountering a lot of topics being offered for discussion which are not worth taking at all. Naturally, I skipped them all. But later still, I have noticed how many times over that single topic appears repeatedly - not only on the same day, but at times even on different days within the week. I do not understand this kind of behavior. There are some mylot clients who see this to be a money making scheme. Although I do not see mylot to be a good source of income but rather a good ground to be discussing with various people spread through out the world, others just do not see it my way. Yes, I feel that some are starting so many discussions in the prospects of earning more; yes, I feel that there are some here who takes a peep at topics started by someone else and then copies it and take it for one's own. But this in one thing going which is beyond mine and your control. This is the kind of attitude they have been having. I believe this has to do with the values one nurtures.

Thank you for your very well thought out response. YOu make valid points and observations. This is not a get rich site, but it is a place to come and share and have fun and a side bonus make a few bucks! :)

I tend to start a lot of discussions because I hear about things that pique my interest and wonder what others think about the subject. I read a lot and am a writer and somtimes use the discussions for research. Maybe some are cutting and pasting, but not me!! :-)

yeah i guess there is going on cause for every topic I find one or more duplicate topics... i think replying in topics gives much points too... i think we should search before starting a new topic...

There are times that I wonder if there is a contest going on but I know that some people are trying to get as much in before the next pay comes in so they can have a higher earning. I have noticed that some users create a ton of topics in a short period of time as well. Some of them do copy and paste and others take recipes and stuff from the news and other things. I don't think everyone is cheating that creates a lot of topics. I would probably not create more than 10 topics in one day. I do more responding than creating.

i keep on thinking and thinking about a new discussion but i cann't find a good one! so if somebody starts 20 discussions i am sure a lot of the discussions are very simple. i also look at my "friends"new discussions and most of the time i don't like them so i don't answer them! it is impossible to find new discussions with 68000 people, i think every subject is already done here. but i don't mind i visit other sites too so i leave mylot and go to the others, next day i try again!

im not very sure but i think so too...i see a person posting discussion continuously at very short intervals of time....meaningless posting of discussions is not at all encouraged......the same topic come over and over again in these discussions......

I hope I could start discussions and share all the feelings and thinkings with other people. It's very nice to know how other people think about the same problem. If there are 100 people, there should be 100 ways of thinking. This is human beings,we need to think all the time^^

Its not necessary that people are copy pasting their views. there may be people in that category but there are many others who have their own views about various topics. But i do agree with the fact that there is no point in simply posting a discusiion. it should provide value to various people who are reading that. Also ones view should be responded by many people so that we can open up new phases to that particular topic.
