When you were a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?

Most children have a fantasy of what whey want to do when they grow up. Maybe a rock star, or a footballer, or perhaps something more day-to-day like a fireman, or a nurse, or a teacher. I admit I wanted to be a top tennis player, and win Wimbledon! But sadly I was never that good at sports! So what did you want to be, and did you grow up to achieve it?

The very first career ambition I had I was to be a Cowgirl! I loved horses, and wanted to work with them somehow. I also wanted to be a dog trainer, ice skater, gymnast, fashion model, rock star, famous author, photographer, and an artist who lives in France. Sadly, none of those worked out. I rode horses for a while, but that's a very expensive hobby. There are so many things that interest me, it's hard to choose. That's why I puttered away my 20s and am just finishing college at 31 years of age. :) I guess I'd still like to be a writer / photographer who lives in France; that sounds great!

I grew up to be a total city girl (and a vegetarian), but a part of me still romanticizes the open range. I think one day I might be one of the city slickers who goes away to one of those "Cowgirl Camps" for vacation. As long as they have veggie dogs to cook over the open fire! :)

I had a fantasy that I never, ever, ever wanted to work. Never. My parents told me that when I was 5 years old, I declared that I did not and would not get a job.
Fast forward -I don't have to work ;D

Interesting question, I don't think I've really grown up, I'm still a big kid at heart, what do I want to be when I grow up, interesting question, well seeing as it took me 32 years to realize what my vocation in life is, as a kid I wasn't bothered to be honest, I was never career minded and as long as I got some cash in my pocket I was happy to do anything. I did follow my aunts field of work, being a secretary! I always loved speaking on the phone and typing, and my aunt bought me an old fashioned manual typewriter when I was young so I practiced on that, bang bang bang on the keys, do you remember those, looking back now I can't believe how we suffered them, sore fingers and equally sore thumbs! So it was the secretarial field I belonged in and as I can't get a job in my chosen career, it's back to the world of typing for me!

When i was a child I wanted to be either a lawyer or a movie star. Needless to say I never achieved either goal nor would I expecially have wanted to. I think I was just an imaginative kid rebelling against the mundane. EVERYBODY wanted to be a teacher or a nurse or a mother and I just wanted to shake things up a little.

A teacher, a writer, an actress, a veterinarian, a laywer, a mother, an explorer, an adventurer, an equestrian champion, a zookeeper, an artist. And those were just the ambitions I had before 10!
The one that stuck with me though, regardless of my ages and phases, was wanting to be a writer.

I wanted to be a teacher when I grew up. I did study to be a teacher but failed my teaching practice because I was too shy and I didn't agree with the national curriculum.
I am still really interested in education and would like to work in it, but maybe as a teacher for bright and gifted children.

I always wanted to be a writer. I was planning to be either a poet or a great novelist. Well, I've been writing all my life, but it turned out that I'm lousy at fiction, and too lazy and disorganized to be a professional writer.

I wanted to be a astronomer.I loved looking at the stars and thinking about them. I am an amateur astronomer now.So even though I couldn't achieve my dream of getting a job in astronomy I am happy that at least I am able to be continue astronomy as a hobby.

I wanted to be a teacher when I grew up lol! I thought that teachers had an amazing job - they got to play all day, get weekends and summers off, and get to go on trips for free. Haha, I now realize that's not the case and unless your temperment is suited for teaching, better find another job before you get too frustrated. Right now, I'm in university studying genetics. I might eventually delve into teaching university (genetics) courses, but right now my plans are to graduate and find a good research position.
