i have had to turn off one alert re my mailbox today..
i got over 30 posts in my inbox today all from one person..i have seen this happen a few times..and these people don't usually respond to any of my posts anyway..
but honestly do you think that posting thrity posts in the hope that everyone will respond is ethical? or abusing the system..? up to a maximum of ten posts a day i can understand..and then maybe answering other's posts also very important..but when i see someone posting over thirty posts in one day it puts me off replying to that person's post..i personally think it's too much..
i believe mylot should be give and take..don't you?

It can be annoying if someone posts so many in the one day, I did start a discussion on this subject some time ago. Perhaps there should be a ratio of new posts to responding to other people's discussions say a minimum of 5 responses to every new discussion you start, although the responses should be unlimited.
On the other hand some people are not able to write many discussions, and we can't respond if there are not enough to respond to.

What irks me is when the new discussions page is taken up by posts from all the same person. And they're pointless, useless posts. There are two users in particular that leap to my mind. Common sense, people! Stop spamming the board with drivel. I don't get updates when my friends post things - I have all email alerts turned off. Otherwise my e-mail would explode.

The easiest way to deal with this was turn off the notify alert in your lists if that truly bother you. Me too have had came across similar situations before and i choose to turn it off and now I will do a manual search instead of let them notify me on any new discussions by my friends.I think if they can make some very good qualities discussions topics then it will be okay for them to start as many discussions as they wish as we were all set free to make any contributions to the community provided we follow the guidelines along the way.

My brain isn't quick enough to think of more than a couple of things to post for discussion in a weeks time if I am lucky. But, when I am finally inspired I have to act quickly or it will be lost forever. Such is the mind of a blonde going through menopause! I spend most of my time reading new discussions and responding to them. Other than that I am reading, rating and commenting on the responses others have made to my discussions.

I know that I have all my friends on "notify off" so I don't get those e-mails. I only get notification of personal messages. So, it doesn't bother me how many discussions people post. But, if the person posts way too many "nonsense" or "repetitive" discussions, I usually delete them from my friends list.

I agree with you. A friend of mine is usually sending a lot of nonsense e mail at work. We only have a limited storage space for our mail and gets fined for having a full mailbox. Usually i ignore them but forget to delete them. So I end up with a full mailbox and pay a fee for not receiving the important stuff.

Maybe not limit how many they can do but how often. I have seen at times people post a bunch all in a 30 minute span. How about instead it have a control so you can't post a new discussion except every 20 minutes or some number they decide on. Not responses just new discussions. That would allow everyone a chance to post a new discussion and have people see it instead of one person taking over the new discussions page.

I wrote a discussion about this some time ago, a time limit on posting a new discussion would be suitable, I don't see how anyone can post so many discussions at the one time. I saw one person who managed to post around 20 new discussions immediately after each other, so must have been cutting & pasting.
With almost 70,000 on MyLot, a post only stays on the new discussion page for about a minute.

no i don't like to minus posts..i prefer though no answer everyone as best i can..i just can't give all my time to one person..in that way i think it is unfair..do you understand my point?..i would like to give my time to as many people as i can so many can earn..but i understand your point of view and respect it..even if it is different from mine..thankyou..

I have never gave a negative rating I would really have to dislike something to do that. I enjoy hearing from people and I do not find any of this annoying in the least. All the garbage I get in my email bothers me far more. Did you know I won a million dollar lottery like 10 times already I didn't even know I was entered. YEAH RIGHT!

I assume that you are referring to posting discussions, in which case I am in full agreement. A couple of members have done the same thing over the past day, and I noticed that there was suddenly about 8 or 9 discussions submitted within a couple of minutes by a single member.
The discussions are rather abstract questions intended solely to flood the page and capture as many responses as possible, which is certainly not an ethical way to behave. The problem is that you have to wade through this rubbish to find the decent topics, which is quite annoying.
This is a form of spamming and I am sure that it contravenes the guidelines.
I could accept that number of posts if they were well thought out topics, but not a flood of nonsense to fill the pages and force response.

this is exactly what i am talking about..and these people are not at all bothering to reply to other's posts..this is the selfish atitude i am trying to talk of..i know everyone talks of freedom freedom etc but i am talking about self regulation and good manners..if people want freedom and power then first they have to know how not to abuse that freedom and power..
there is wisdom in all things..extreme freedom can bring about two tates of existence..anarchy and then a coup..
maybe a bit political..but it will be a shame that a few may spoil it for the many..

I don't Think They Have To Limit This. But It deoends On the Person To response Or to post In the,What you called, ethical way.

The theory is that you build up your numbers. I don't think it really works. The most successful posters around here are doing a lot fewer than that, and they're posting good discussions.
I've seen reams of posts from one person, and usually that's why I won't respond to them. If neither ethical nor useful, it's guaranteed to annoy someone, so to some extent it's not helping them.
The same applies to the serial friend abusers, who become friends, do nothing, and generally blunder around the site until they find a new hobby. (There was actually a post about "make as many friends as you can",which shows an almost total ignorance of the many discussions about friends not replying we've had. This post also said make 100 friend applications a day! Gee thanks, whoever you were.)
The standard symptoms are:
1. Very brief headers and discussions.
2. Standard topics.
3. Trivial subjects.
4. Large number of discussions posted, small number of replies.
5. "Pattern" topics, recycling old discussions. I really doubt if the many repeats are a coincidence.
What it means is they can come in, produce 30 posts in 40 minutes, and scuttle away. An average of two responses figures out as 60 a day. As a form of abuse, it's a bit of a grey area, because there aren't any limits on posts, as someone else said.
I think those of us who've been here long enough know how recognize it and how to handle it. But we don't have to like it, and we should post more discussions like this to warn people of the new rorts. We can also keep myLot informed of the current batch of nuisances.

you're right. posting more than ten discussions in a day is too much for myLot population. This doesn't have anything much to do with abuse. You have to realize that not every post gets gazillions of responses. Some of them get zilch, zero, nada, etc because there are lots of other posts which are similar and others are going to respond to them instead of yours. If you are trying to rake in more responses, you have to post topics that make people tick, not just anything to better your chances. Besides, not everyone is here to comment on your topics. I comment on one post or two of a particular member then I go on to the next. Everyone should be heard and commented on.

LOL! 30 posts? And none of them are actually replies? WTF How the hell does he come up with that many ideas to ask people? Often, I'm sitting here just reading and replying because my life is not THAT dramatic..yet. :D
See, the thing is..I've noticed that there are a number of people that do that, but they're usually new. Nobody bothers to read the guidelines after joining. They just go right ahead and ask questions, simple questions and expects to get paid. Is this person a new user?
I would love to be able to post 30 quality discussions, unfortunately..I'm not that creative. *hugs* jie! :)

I'm not sure whether there should be a limit on postings as in theory you could post 30 decent discussions in a day. I have turned off all put a few of my email notifications (don't worry I haven't switched yours off - as I always enjoy your discussions!) But some just post constant drivel so I just go through all my friends profiles and choose the discussions I want to answer from there! I did read that one of my friends had over 1000 emails in her in box and she missed an important one, so either turn off the notification or create a new 'rule' in your email folder so mylot emails go directly to this new folder and don't clog up your inbox!

Maybe there was a computer glitch, she started sending you the post and maybe she had to repeat it, because i dont see the reason why soemone should send you 30 posts for one discussion. Change your account preferences also to not notify you when someone has responded to your discussion. Just check them when you go online, that is something that i have been practising after being bombarded with alerts in my email.

I think everybody should have liberty to do whatever he/she likes to. I mean whether they want to post or respond or add comment, should be left to them. Some people are more innovative than others. They can jot down ideas and express them easily. If we don't want to respond, it should be our prerogative. So far as the more rewarding question is concerned, if we know a post is more reqwarding than a response,or vice versa, everyone will be doing the same and the very purpose of starting the discussions will be lost.

No I don't think that mylot should have rules about how many new discussions you can start in a day... There are enough rules. I say turn off the notify is on for that friend- and really if you don't like their discussions (can't be quality if they post that many that quick) why do you have them as a friend? They don't answer your posts.. They are here for the money and think that if htey keep posting discussions and people respond they will get more- I find that I make more when I respond to quality discussions. Not when I ask questions. So take the notifier off or drop them as your friend- that would be what I would do.

I don't feel there should be a maximum amount of posts. I have one friend who usually starts around fifteen a day and I love it as we tend to have the same interests so it usually means I have something to go respond to. If you find this friends' discussions are not that appealing to you, I would simply delete that person from my list.

I have ever been able to post more than 5 post a day. I can't think of any topics that would start a good post. And besides when i do think of them, someone else aready has too. And i find myself answering the same questions over and over again. it starts to get innoying. don't you think?

ya as i know ,that there is no limit for posting the discussions in the mylot because as more as u writre and type in the mylot as more as you can earn in the mylot so if u post many of the discussions then u shud get more erning in dollars....so always do discussions as more as you can as i do post them regularly atleast 12 per day,,,it may be also the responses for someones discussions...
