I read Ender's Game and all of its sequels while I was in high school, and the teacher who recommended it to me told me that it was supposed to be coming out as a movie too...has anyone heard anything about Ender coming to theatres? Also, how do you think that it would turn out? I was very excited about Eragon coming out in December, but I was very disappointed and decided just to stick to Paoloni's books. I'd like to see Ender on the big screen, but I wonder how cheesy it would be and how they would do the casting...ideas anyone? Let me know your thoughts...

Updates on the Ender's Game movie are posted here:

The latest one was dated in March of 2006, so I don't know. They can't talk about casting the kids until most other things are set, because if they cast kids and then have to wait a couple of years before filming, the kids grow too big to be believable.
I'm looking forward to the movie, if it ever happens. I kind of hope they'll do a mash-up of Ender's Game/Ender's Shadow, as it'll be really cool telling the story from both points of view.

I'm checking out that site now...thanks! I agree with what you said about Ender's Game/Ender's Shadow...Have you read Orson Scott Card's other books? I've tried to read everything o his that I could get my hands on after I read Ender's Game. I'm hooked!

I've read some of the other books... The Worthing Saga, all of the Ender/Shadow series, and the Women of Genesis series.
That last set is biblical fiction, which I really got into a few years ago.

I am pretty excited for the movie. I think one of the reasons it has taken so long to get out is because Card is so involved with it all. He is not willing to sign off on anything sub-par. So while I hate waiting, I am happy to wait for Card to make it as close as he can to the book and his vision. (I have also heard that he will be using elements of Ender's Shadow to fill in main plot elements, but I have a feeling won't deal with any of the actual plot lines from that book.)

So maybe when it finally does come out, it will be just as fantastic as Hitchhiker's Guide is; I hope that you're right! I just hope it doesn't end up a dud, like Eragon (and Paoloni was involved heavily in that). Here's hopin'!

Ender's Game is my favourite book. I've been meaning to read some others, but I haven't gotten around to it.
I heard the movie will be coming out in 2008 (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0400403/) and I know I will be looking forward to it. I hope it turns out as great as the book.

You should definitely read more of Card. He's an incredibly talented writer. I'm excited for the movie to come out (whenever it finally does), but I'm worried that it may be ruined in the transition from print to film, like Eragon. (By the way, was anyone else incredibly disapointed in Eragon the movie? It was very well cast, but aside from that...well, it pretty much sucked).

Talks for Ender's Game the movie has been in the talk for years! The problem is is that there are no big name child actors to play the part of Ender. I think they could make up that problem by putting a big name actor in an adult positon. The commander is an important part... right? LOL.

I think it might almost be better if the child actors weren't as well known. Sci-Fi movies with big-name stars usually kinda suck. I don't know if it's because the big names make the films more mainstream or what, but look at movies like War of the Worlds, it was TERRIBLE (who decided to let Tom Cruise act in a sci-fi movie, honestly...). I think they could get away with one or two mid to big stars in the adult roles.

Well, there have been rumors about Ender's Game becoming a movie for at least a decade now, maybe more. The trouble is that it would have to depend so heavily on child actors that it would be hard to market. Also, I've seen some summaries of possible scripts, and because the book is so jam-packed with plot a lot of things would have to go and a lot of characters would have to be combined. So I don't know that I'd like the movie as much as the books, in fact I think it's pretty impossible that I would. However, it might make a good miniseries, like 10th Kingdom or Merlin.

Ender's Game is set up perfectly to be a movie. The only question is, is America ready for an intelligent movie? Some of the more intelligent movies have failed based on people not "getting" the plot (Serenity, Butterfly Effect, etc). Not that they can't follow it, but that they don't understand exactly why that piece of art was created.
For Ender's Game, it is going to take a very talented director to portray the story as a look into growing up with expectations, pain, lack of security, and ultimately, guilt. The eradication of the Buggers is not a victory in the bookm rather its a huge defeat for Ender at the hands of the system. This is the pinnacle of the book, and as long as this remains the underlying theme, you have a good movie worthy of Orson Scott Card.
