i believe history is a good thing. actually people learn a lot from history dont you think? when something bad happen in the past, we learn not to repeat the mistakes. i always look into the past, try to evaluate what happen.well its just my history..what kind of history do you teach exactly?

I teach british history of the 20th century, but i do wonder if we actually do learn from the mistakes of the past, we do indeed seem destined to repete them

yes, we repeat the mistakes because we didn't learn. we do know what happen in the past but we don't try to prevent it. isn't it the point of studying history?

I feel it's a very good thing:) When I was younger, history was not one of my favorite subjects until grade 11 when I had the most incredible history teacher that made all those "old things" come to life and got us all completely interested in the subject.

oops I just realizes i didn't completely answer the question. I think it is important to know about history, so we understand what took us where we are, what worked and what didn't work, and even to get the idea that everything goes in circles - empires rise and fall; countries go from being at the top, to become almost forgotten; big epidemics come in cycles that are basically predictable... Apart from that it is interesting to know how people lived in the past, how different were things and how they evolved ... Yes, it is a good thing :)

I think it's good teach and learn history. Adult and kids need to know history. It can help to understand the world how it is today. There are things in the world that we cannot understand if we do not search in the past the reason.

like one of my favorite drummer said about music "you have to understand the past for you to be able to understand the present and maybe predict the future". yeah, studying history is a good thing, this may give us the sense of who we are and makes us appreciate more the things we have now.

I personally love history. I love to read about the lives and happenings of years and centurys past. I find that I learn from them. We can learn about the mistakes that they made, thus preventing us from making the same mistakes. It is amazing how time has a way of repeating itself because we did not learn from the past. History can have a major impact on our lives if we really study it.

Of course there is a point in studying history, several in fact! Not only are you learning good general, transferrably skills by the mere act of learning, but also it's good to learn becuase it's intersting, and also we learn from our mistakes so what better way to learn than by looking at history?

I think that it is a really good thing that you are doing teaching adults history, I wish that when I was at school I found history interesting, it is only now that I am an adult and I have the internet that I have become more interested in history, I am thinking about starting a college course myself, Good luck in your teaching.

well if you're teaching it, you must have an objective or something..but in case you dont..history is like a form of reference for the future events..mostly for the economy..^_^

History is a very important subject which has a lot of objectives attached to it.. Like we get inspirations from the various people attached to the history , It also serves us by explaining the various myth attached to history, and the list continues . so may it be adult it is always useful to people

I think history is of upmost importance. You wouldn't be the person you are today without history! It broadens the mind and helps quite a bit in pub quizzes too lol! I'm fascinated by history from religion, Pyramids, King Arthur, Stonehenge, archeological digs - how can someone not be interested in this? In fact I'm off to Egypt within the next month or so to visit the Pyramids to broaden my horizons and hopefully learn more!

TO me i believe it is a good thing..I've always heard and believe that history repeats itself..So it is best to know what happened in the past so if it happens again the people can expect it or try to learn from all our mistakes and keep it from happening a second time.

thank you for your response, it has been said that the only lesson we learn from history that we dont learn from history, the world around us seems to suggest this is true
