I keep crashing...

After everything that has happened as of late now I am having pc trouble.
Everything will be fine and then I can not move the cursor. I have to shut off the pc and when it comes back on it is fine.
I thought virus. Ran a scan and nothing.
Then I thought. Maybe the tower is dirty. I cleaned it with the vacuum and that did not help.
Then I thought maybe it is my OS (Windows XP). So I just reformatted.
The computer is not quiet a year old.
It's a Dell.
Any suggestions before my next crash?

so many answers.. why dont you take your computer to an authorised service centre? sometimes problem tends to very small and we do so much hard work on it to solve that problem and dont give attention to the simple things. better go to service centre, they will fix you proble quickly. dont waste your time in experimenting.

It could be spyware. Did you run a spyware scan. I use both spybot and adaware spyware removers. I visit a lot of sites online and I have to do a scan at least every few days. Also, if you go to pcpitstop.com They have free tests that you can run to check the condition of your pc. Its a safe site. I use it all the time. If you go there and need help with something, let me know and I'll do my best to help you. They also have a good section on viruses and spyware in their forums.

I would suggest getting someone to help you. You can do it yourself but I wouldn't have a clue on how to do it.

It might overheating, check out your CPU fan, VGA van, or any other fan. Make sure it spin fast. Also check the wires and connectors like IDE, SATA, or any other connectors.

maybe your IDE Cable that connects to your hardisk needs to replaced or maybe your video card is damaged. caused i cant distinguish the problem of your computer. is your keyboard working when your cursor hangs? if your keyboard still works when your cursor hangs then the problem maybe is your mouse. but i think the problem is in your IDE Cable or Video Card.

Just an idea...do you have enough memory or could your memory be bad? We had a Dell at work that was about a year old and we had to upgrade the memory. How about your video card?

Try running this see if it helps. It's through Microsoft, and it does take awhile, at least an hour or so to complete. It does registry fixes, everything.

if you ran a virus scan and it say there is no virus on your pc, maybe a spyware is present in your computer,
or maybe your computer has no enough memory, i think also that you got problem with your RAM.
i think you need help from a technician so that you will know the real problem with your computer...
good day and goodluck

Make sure your anti-virus software is updated, I suggest AVG.
Check also if your hard disk has errors or bad sectors in it. You may be experiencing "hanging" when your using it.Upgrade also your RAM.

I had the same problem a couple of months back, my pc would work fine for about an hour and then all of a sudden it freezes.I tried pretty much all the things you mentioned but nothing worked. I finally called a technician to look into it and there was a problem with the motherboard. I got it repaired and after that it never crashed again. So i would suggest that you get your motherboard checked out

it doesnt matter if you have a 256MB RAM.it is sufficient .you said you have already run a scan on your computer right?first of all it may be the security program itself shutting down the computer.when you have more than one security program on the computer it tends to create a conflict and can harm your computer badlt.also when you use too many application and have too many programs installed you ll have the same issue.check out these issues.if it still doesnt work try contacting DELLthey have a wonderful technical support.they ll definitely figure it out.

If the computer is less than a year old you should still have a warrenty. Call Dell support. If you do not have warrenty I suggest you back up all files such as music, pictures and doc files that are not used frequently to disc. After trasferring those files delete them from hard drive. Do disk clean up and then drfrag. I had the same problem with my PC and these actions helped some. The problem stopped after i got McAfee Security suite. Right now they are offering a free 30 day trial on their site... Http://www.mcaffe.com You will be surprised how much this helps keep your computer running smoothly as this software not only protects from virus and provides a firewall but it also has tools to help keep your computer running smoothly...

Uhm, we need a ton load more information then what your giving us. How often does it happen? When did it start happening? Did you install anything hardware-wise lately? Is your computer getting enough ventilation because it does sound like overheating, but you can't really be sure until you answer the basic questions man lol
