Will platinum corrode?

What are the chemicals that corrode platinum? Why is it costlier than Gold? Gold is costly because it does not corrode except in the presence of mercury where it forms an amalgam.

Thanks for the information about gold. I think corrosion takes place in the presence of air.Rest all are called reaction. i don't know whether platinum reacts with what chemical. In air it certainly doesn't corrode.
