I was just reading about a Hollywood film producer who bought his girlfriend what people are calling the "Ultimate Valentine's Day Gift" - a gift wrapped house! *laugh*
What's the gift that you've received that has meant the most to you? It doesn't have to be something expensive. I think that the best gifts come from the heart. But I did find the idea of a gift-wrapped house to be quite original, and a cute idea! ^_^
You can read the rest of the story here, if you like:

LOL!! It would be wonderful to get a gift-wrapped house, wouldn't it? Heck, I'd settle for the house without the gift wrap - that part just made it cuter! *laugh*
Aw, though! What you said about your husband's heart being your greatest gift is the most beautiful thing I've heard in quite awhile. I agree. I really have to agree, because what I long for in life more than anything is someone to love who will give me their heart like your husband has done for you. I wish you and him many, many happy years together! ^_^

**Sigh** I have to agree with you on this... That is the best gift my fiance ever gave me... No material thing can compare to the love that we share. (But yeah, a gift wrapped house--with a new ferrari sounds really tempting though... LOL!)

What does he do for birthdays and christmas?
Can't remember ever getting more than a box of chocolates - which he ate most of lol.
A Campervan with a vig bow ontop would be the best prezzie ever, there's one at our local garage, but it's not going to happen, never mind, lol

You've got a good point - this guy is going to have one heck of a time topping this gift, ever! *laugh* I do wonder what he will do for her birthday and Christmas. That is, if they are even still together by then, lol.. sadly, with this being a Hollywood romance, you never know.
Aw, rainbow, I wish that you could get that Campervan with the big bow on top for your present! I would be so thrilled for you! I hope that you get something lovely, anyway! ^_^

I think that Valentine's day is just another "Hallmark Holiday" designed for the stores to make more money. I tend to think that gifts and sentiments expressed on Valentine's day can be contrived and insincere. Many times people give gifts and cards on the day because it is expected of them. I would much rather show love and be shown love in small ways every day, throughout the year. That would mean more to me than a flashy gift on a made-up holiday. If someone takes the time to leave me a special card or gets me flowers or a cute stuffed-animal in June, for example, it means more to me than a gift that is given by "command performance" because of the medial and the sense of obligation.

Laurie, I really do understand where you're coming from. I guess that I just can't help how strongly I feel about Valentine's day being a beautiful thing. To me, any day which promotes love is an amazing thing. I don't think that anything in this world is more beautiful and amazing than love, and I would give up anything in life to find someone who truly loved me as I would love them. So even though I agree that a gift given when it's not expected of someone means even more, I can't dislike the idea of Valentine's Day, And this is coming from someone who has only ever had one actual boyfriend, long ago, and has spent most of her Valentine's days alone, not doing a single special thing.

Ah yes, I read that in the newspaper this morning. Personally, I am not a Valentine's Day person, and I prefer to show my love on other days, than just one day a year, that is really only for commercial purposes. So I guess, the best thing I ever received was a stuffed, fluffy toy cat (you know how I love cats?), with a beligerant expression, and "I Hate Valentine's Day" on a card around his neck!! We were in Holland at the time, so the cat had clogs on (LOL!), and I got a bunch of tulips too! My beloved has a quirky sense of humour, somewhat like my own!!

Rosie, you have a great guy! LOL, that cat with the clogs on is just too cute - I can picture it now. I love stuffed toys, anyway - I basically collect them, or used to, although I've given some of them away because I won so many at our local amusement park one year via playing games for tickets that we were running out of room to keep them around, lol! But anyway, I would have loved a gift like that, except that I do love the whole idea of Valentine's day. Yes, I agree with all of my heart that love should be shown every day - but I'm such a hopeless romantic that I can't help but adore the idea of a day set aside _specifically_ for showing love and affection! ^_^

My husband proposed to me on Valentine's Day, he took pictures of things around our house and sent me on a scavanger hunt for different little things. The last picture was a picture of the clothes he wanted me to wear that night, so I got dressed and the next picture was of my car, so I went to my car and there were roses and a poem, and a picture of my parents house. So I went over there and he was there. My mom was taking pictures of us and he was standing behind he and I could feel that he was messing with something so I turned around and he was down on one knee with a ring and asked me to marry him!!!

Oh Michele, that is such a beautiful story! I absolutely love it! What a thoughtful, original way to propose! I love the idea of you running around on a scavenger hunt, with each photo telling you where to go next, and finding him at the end getting ready to propose to you. That is just so cute and romantic at the same time! I hope that you and your husband have a beautiful Valentine's day together this year! ^_^

The gift that meant the most to me was a card and a pair of rings (one for me, and one for my girlfriend). It meant so much to me because it came from the women a love.
It's important that you like the one that gave you the gift, because that will give a new conotation to the gift.

I have to agree. A gift that cost nothing given to me by someone special will mean ten times as much to my heart as something expensive given to me by someone else. Money is not the object or the necessity here. It is the idea of someone that you love doing something to make you happy. That is what would fill my heart with the most joy, for sure! ^_^

Oh weemam, you are too cute. A wee kiss and a cuddle! I love that. ^_^ I am also so, so happy to hear that your husband is still with you after his two heart operations. That must have been a rough time for the both of you, and I'm just so thrilled to hear that you've come through that time and are even happier together than ever, from the sounds of things. I wish you the truly most wonderful Valentine's day ever!! ^_^

Okay I am one of those people also who don't celebrate valentines day because my husband and I decided long ago to show our love every day and not just on this holiday. BUT.........
My Ultimate valentines day gift would be for my husband to do all the cleaning, cooking, and laundry, fix me breakfast in bed, give me a massage, shampoo my hair, then cuddle up with me and watch movies.
I actaully do get this gift about once a year but it is never on valentines day, which to me makes it more meaningful.
I think the best gifts are the ones that aren't purchased. Sure a house would be great, but I would trade it in any day for a love poem written by my husband.

thanks shywolf. Here is my advice for finding that one love...don't look for it. Lord knows I would have never gone looking for my husband, I mean I hated him when we first met, but we eventually became friends and then one thing lead to another and viola, now we are married. I think the fact that we were really friends first has made a big difference too.
Of course we have our troubles and there are things he does that just drive me nuts, but you tend to overlook certain things with your friends, and he was my friend first.
So I guess my advice is don't go looking for it, and be good friends first. Your time will come when you least expect it and you will have all that you long for.

Sunnypub, I agree with you so strongly that a gift given from the heart, especially a love poem, is worth ten gift wrapped houses! ^_^
I'm so glad that you and your husband consider every day to be like Valentine's Day, too, and that he gives you your ultimate gift of doing all the cooking, cleaning and laundry (and breakfast in bed, yay!) at least once a year! That's really wonderful! I would love that kind of treatment, too. ^_^

I don't think that I know how not to look, sunnypub! *laugh* But honestly, you gave some great advice there. I believe too that you have to be friends first. I wouldn't want to be with someone who wasn't my best friend in the world as well as my lover. There just wouldn't be enough of a connection there, if not. But as for not looking? I can't help it. I get crushes at the drop of a hat. I pretty much can find something to like about most any guy who has a kind heart and is nice to me. I really couldn't have a guy friend without having some kind of feelings for him, I think, no matter how small or slight those feelings might be. I just don't know. I don't think that I can ever stop looking! *laugh*

I'd say mine would be a nice block of time alone with my husband. He already is upset that with the snow he won't be able to get out and buy me something, but we're married, have two kids, and I think have passed the whole "I need material things for V Day" stage. So last night we talked about it, and decided that we can go out Friday and get some chocolate for 75% off and celebrate over the weekend. Thats what V Day is about, loving someone, and so we're pushing it off to the weekend to save money.. we're married and want to be finacially practical here! lol

That's a great idea, jerseypink! We also have a lot of snow here right now in Missouri, so I understand about not being able to get out :/ But what you guys are planning to do is a wonderful idea for those of us, like myself too, who need to save money. After all, there's no need to celebrate love on any particular day, and you can definitely get some great deals on chocolate and other Valentine Day candies by waiting until just after the day! Kudos to you both for coming up with such a great money-saving way to still have a wonderful celebration! ^_^

That's wonderful! I'm glad to hear that you and your guys are still together. Looking at your profile, you are 22 now, which means that you've been together for 6 years! Wow! That's great - most relationships at that age don't last that long, it seems, and I think that it's amazing that you have such a wonderful guy. I can understand why any gift that he gave you that year, it being your first Valentine's day together, would be the most special. And I love teddy bears!! ^_^

Mywords, I wish you a very happy Valentine's Day, as well! I also agree that the best gift in the world is love, especially from the person who you love romantically. I wish so much that I could find that kind of love. Thank you so much for wishing that I and the others here find our soulmates. It is definitely my dream, to find mine. There is nothing in life that means more to me than that.

Hey, I wouldn't mind roses (or any types of pretty flowers) and chocolates myself, except that I can't really have sugar. Actually, I would love to be given some different colored roses, not just red ones. Did you know that that there are are colors of roses? My favorite color is orange, so I would be thrilled if someone bought me some beautiful orange roses!! ^_^

this hasnt really happened or anything, but i think this would be a great gift. if he had a surprise trip planned for valentines day. take me up in the mountains to a cozy cabin and we just go curl up in front of the fire place and hold each other until we fall asleep, as the snow falls past the windows outside. and just spend a few days up there. i think that would be really fun.

Your idea of an ultimate gift is absolutely lovely, Thewolf. I would love to go on a trip like that and stay curled up in front of a fire with my favorite person in the world, if I had found my true love by now, that is. ^_^ It sounds like more than fun - it sounds truly romantic, and I am definitely a hopeless romantic at heart. I love your response. Thank you! ^_^

Well, I think the best gift that one can afford without getting into debt is the best gift that one can buy. Why? Because you won't have to curse that person for getting you into money problems. Seriously, I'm thinking that because we tend to celebrate Valentine's Day every year (just like Christmas), we cannot help but get bored. I mean, unless you have a new boyfriend or you have a great relationship going on. But for some people who are alone (without boyfriends) and for those who are past the age of getting all tingly about the day, I would suggest that making the day unforgettable is the best Valentine's gift of all. Your date could be your parents or your younger siblings. The trick is to make the day memorable and enjoyable, so that remembering Valentine's Day even without a boyfriend, brings a big smile on your lips.

I liked what you said there around the end about making Valentine's Day memorable even if you don't have a boyfriend. I wish that I knew how to do that this year. I mean, I have my family around me, but we won't be doing anything special for the day. I would be so happy just to get one happy Valentine's Day message from someone whom I've admired or cared about, but I have yet to see if that will happen. At least it's a bit more likely than ever this year, since I am connected to more of my favorite people online than I ever used to be. If one of them does wish me a happy Valentine's Day, or more than one, that will make this one of the most special Valentines' days that I've had yet.

my best valentines gift that i received was an old typewriter.
my boyfriend at the time took me to this beautiful park where he had the typewriter set up on a table under a gazebo with one red rose on it. he sat me down in front of it and played my favorite song on his guitar.
i still have the typewriter and the way it made me feel... i don't have the guy anymore, thank God!
ha ha. it was really romantic and awesome... you'd had to of been there.

LOL!! Lilbellules, you paint such a lovely, beautiful picture of the surroundings and the way that this boyfriend of yours treated you, bu then you said that you're so happy not to have him in your life now - that made me laugh! It does sound like he gave you an amazing Valentine's Day, though. It would have thrilled my heart to pieces to be taken to such a romantic setting and have the guy that I love sing a song to me and play his guitar. I love music, and I love guys who are artistic and/or musical, so that would have been one of my dream Valentine's days, as well! ^_^

Oh, tojo, your message really speaks to my heart. That is exactly what my ultimate gift would be. If I could find my soulmate, I would be the happiest girl in the entire world. There is truly nothing else that I have wished for more than that in my entire life - for someone to love me back the same as I would love them. Someone for whom the sun would rise and set for me. I just can't help it, I have to have someone to care about and make happy in my life, and I have pretty much spent my entire life using every kind of relationship that I've had (meaning non-romantic ones) to help try to to fill that 'hole' inside me where I need that love so badly. I can be content enough just having a really good friend to share with and make happy, but it will never be exactly the same as having someone to truly love who will love me back. I wish you all the best in finding your soulmate. I hope that we both find what we are looking for on this earth.

The best gifts I ever recieved for valentine are, spending the first valentine with my wife and convincing her to stay home with me, because of the snow. Also, getting a valentine's warm kisss from someone you love.
