I was just reading a news story about some conservationists in Nepal who opened a "restaurant" to help serve safe food for vultures in the area, because South Asia's vultures are on the road to extinction due to the drugs in the cattle that farmers are dosing their cattle with. The vultures prey on this meat and it poisons them :( I find this really sad, what about you? I'm so glad that there are some wonderful people out there who are trying to protect these creatures from extinction, and I wish that we as humans didn't see a need for the use of drugs and chemicals for asbolutely everything. It worries me, too, how much we must be poisioning ourselves with some of the chemincals that are sprayed on the crops that we eat! Any thoughts are welcome!

When I go to the grocery store and look through the organic section I always wonder if just because it says it's organic it really is. And, as other responders have already said, why does it have to be so expensive? I know, it doesn't have the same shelf life that things with preservatives have but darn.......................

It feels good and safe to know taht there are some people who really care about nature or about some real natural issue. We need more and more of those people in our society. If you think deeply what we are eating you will get scared. It seems like we all would die from slow poisoning from the sprayed furtilizers on the crops.

I think we're not only poisoning our wildlife but also ourselves. Look at the current situation with the dog food that now seems to be also in our own human food chain! It's unreal that our governments, worldwide, not just the U.S. don't act accordingly. It's like there is no value to life, human or animal.

Every time I hear something like this, I am just more, and more glad that I am vegetarian. I because vegetarian over 30 years ago now, because I couldn't bear the idea of animals being slaughtered for food, but as modern "civilisation" (using the term loosely), pumps more, and more chemicals, and additives into everything, I am just so glad that I don't put any of that inside my body. I dotry and buy organic food as much as possible, and stuff that we have grown ourselves. I don't have such a big garden, but it is enough for some fresh vegetables, and my Father has an "allotment" where I can get loads of things that I know have not been treated with anything. Thanks for bringing up this subject shywolf.

Truely scary. That is why it is so important to raise as much of our own food as possible. It it is doing that to the animals just think what it is doing to us. Why are we so wrapped up in making money that we forget what is most important...LIFE

I agree with you here. I wish I could afford to buy all organic food for my kids so there was less chance of them having horrible chemicals in the food. Unfortunately I can't afford it. It does scare me what we are doing to our bodies and you wonder whether this is the cause of some of the nasty diseases out there.

Honestly, I try not to think about all the chemicals we use on our food. Otherwise I would not be able to eat it and would only eat things grown in my garden without sprays. The poor vultures are a symptom of our lifestyle unfortunately. Having said that though, It is really great that there are people trying to help these poor vultures. From what I see of the world, there are more people caring for our environment and plants and animals than there used to be, which is great. It can only bring about good change I hope. Tanika.

I guess people, especially those in the business are blind to know what they are causing for wildlife to be extinct. Some of them will give reasons like, "because we have to cope up with the increasing deand" or "our families would get hungry if we don't do this." Selfish reasons of them that to make more money, they don't care of what they would do at their environment. The reason why some wildlife are extinct and almost hard to find know, these days. I think the authorities should give people seminars, and let them be more educated on the effect they bring to mother nature..

yes you are right. this type of actions must be appreciated. they eally are doing a great work.its really very dangerous situation. Not only vultures but also many types of butterflies, and insects those are very helpful to farmers, are in the list of endangered species. even some species has completely lost. the unthoughtful use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides is responsible for this. i dont remember when i saw a crow last time. even the very familiar kind of bird 'sparrow' is rarely visible. In the race for development, we have destroyed the natural habitats of many species. but this must be stopped now otherwise our future generations will blame us when they'll be able to watch beautiful jungles, birds, butterflies, animals , only in the movies and photo albums.

Hi from your organic rancher buddy!!!! I can't remember the last time I ate something from a regular supermarket. It takes extra time, effort and money to raise organic meats and produce. But each year we see the market for out products growing!! I know it is more expensive to purchase organic food, but the flavor is worth it and so are the nutrients!!

you are right about that. i know in florida when i was a kid they noticed that girls mainly were developing much faster then they should of well it was due to what they sprayed the crops with. we bought fresh produce from stands. i was in kindergarden and having to wear a bra not a training bra either. girls were starting monthlys early too due to this. now pigs are being killed and not for food cause of the probs we had with china. we cant use the meat. farmers were feeding pigs with the food fromt ehre and it made the meat bad. they have set many chicken houses on fire due to this as well. food is getting ready to get more expensive. we are hunting and fishing for most of our meat now and doing gardening cause it scares me to eat. we take our scraps and put them in a big pan outside and let the wildlife come up and eat at night. we have alot of possums, racoons, etc so we try to help feed them. we also like them in the yard playing.

I agree with you there , we as a family were talking about that just the other night , My hubby and I were saying there was not such a thing as sell by dates when we were young , You sniffed it and if it didn't smell you ate it , simple as that , now with all the chemicals you throw it out if its a day past the SBD, a changed world xx

Well it is sad that we human forget we share this planet with many other animals and we should remember to take it easy. As for the chemicals in the food, I fully beleive there is a link between that and cancer.
