Energy saving light bulbs,electrical whizz kid wanted.

Having replaced my old bulbs with energy saving ones,I was amazed while lying in bed after turning it off a constant intermittent little flash every 5seconds,now having turned this off from the mains switch, Im sure this should not happen.is there some electrical whizz kid around that could enlighten me.

that is typical of fluorecent engergy bulbs. are they the ones that are slow to start? it's to do with the magnetic ballasts, which is a necissary part to start the bulb, but im not entirely sure why they do it. ones with electronic ballasts remove most of the flickering.
