im very curious about this subject.. see i grew up in germany where the legal drinking age is 16 and on top of that we had a full bar in our house when i was little so alcohol was always available to me even at a young age.. now i dont drink alcohol at all.. i just dont like how it makes me feel ect.. but i feel that if it had been something that was 'forbidden' until i turned 21 i would drink all the time! simply because i could! ive also observed that in german culture when ppl drink it is alot more moderate then here in the US.. here ppl seem to try to get as drunk as possible rather then just drink to have a good time. and i just wonder if it has something to do with the fact that drinking was 'forbidden' for so long? what are your thoughts on this?

u r absolutely right...
when we are forbidden to do something we want to do it more...
this is the nature of human being...
to do the things they are not supposed to do...
I also think if drinking limit if was about 12 years then it would made youths to drink less than they do and it would create a healthy drinking attitude...

i think 12 is still way too young.. here in the US i think it should be droped down to 18.. in germany 16 works out well, and maybe it would work in other countries also though i cant say for sure because i dont know.. but 12 i think is still too young!

Are you insane????? Yeah, lets lower the drinking age to 12, hell lets do away with it all together then we can have boozing pre-schoolers walking the streets!! The age limit is there so that kids don't make choices they are not ready to make! Of course, in India you guys would drink all day if you could...of course if I lived in India I would want to drink!!!

Ita a general tendency to attarct for such things which you are forbidden to..
So as such age restrictions should be till 18 yrs not more than that...rest life is in the hands of an individual, his perspective , drinking or not

Here we have an agelimit of 18 and i think that is a good age. that is also the age when u are considered an adult, and we all now that kids should not drink =)
I admit that I might have had a few or alot of drinks before I turned 18, and most probably do.. but i do belive that the age 16 is too earlie and the age 21 too late!

well for the USA age 16 is deffinately too early.. in germany it works because thats after most kids have graduated school and are on an adult path as well as considering the fact that germans are just brought up to be responsible induviduals so it just kind of works there.. here i think the drinking age should be 18, 21 is deffinately too late!
thanx for your response!

there is no fun getting drunk! you can realise that when you are too young, so i don't think is a good ideea to let a teenager drink to much... he just skips some special moments of their lifes.
i'mm 22 and i've only got drunk twice... and didn't liked it when i got up next morning with that terrible headake, and remembered parts of what i did when i was drunk. i was so ashamed of that!my decision was to drink as much as i need to feel good, but never get drunked again!!!

What you have said is correct but as a doctor I want to let you know that Liver of a child is so tender & vulnarable that it can't protect itself, that is the reason even in paediatric medicine alcohal is avoided to the maximum extent. So Please Please don't differ with me & preach now what you think right for a child.

It is DEFINITELY due to its being forbidden. for all the toalk about his being a free country you can see how it controls its citizens by basically codifying religious belief. The taboos against so many substances are based more on christian dogma then what you see in reality. Most pepole here are not aware that ther are places that allow more thi ngs and still manage to function. Most peple here are taught that such pleasures will be the downfall of our society.

I think 21 is way way way too old to start drinking and I agree that it makes you want to do it even more. So instead of drinking in the States me and my friends drive to Canada & go the Casinos and spend our money there instead of here!!! It's a pretty quick drive to Canada from where I live.
Anyways, it also makes alot of kids misbehave and do other bad things. Like if the legal drinking age was younger, less people would sneak around and get in trouble. Also, if it was younger alot more kids wouldn't get kicked out of college. Because of the drinking age, when kids get caught at campus under age they usually get expelled.
Crazy stuff!!

sure, that's probably what it is. you know how children ---- or people in general ---are. FORBID them to do anything, and they will REBEL. guaranteed.
