Have your views changed from when you were younger?

I was just wondering if other peoples views have changed over the years? My views seem to have changed now that I'm a tax payer, a parent, an employee, ect... The things that I felt very strongly about when I was in my 20's I feel differently about now. Why did your views change? Do you think that someone influenced you? Was it life experience? Maturity? Combination of all of the above? I think that my views have changed for a combination of the above reasons.

Yes, my views have certainly changed. I think it´s mainly maturity and becoming a mother that has changed my views and priorities. I only had to look after myself when I was in my 20´s, now there´s someone else in my life and I have a lot more responsibilities. It´s just evolution. It would be very sad if I still had the same views like when I was in my twenties. Although I´ve sometimes met people I haven´t seen for ages and I was amazed that they seemed to have stagnated in their way of thinking. Good discussion topic, beanifanatic.

Thank you, I was looking for something on the positive side, not that I do alot of negative. Mainly wanted to know if others felt that their views had changed as they grew older if I was alone. :)

Definitely, as we grow up we become more aware of the things around us, and our perceptions about things greatly change. At times though I find myself wishing some things stayed simple like they were when I was younger.

Silentwill, I'll definitely second that wish!!! This great question has gotten me pondering. In addition to the other vast perception changes, the one that I find the hardest to grapple with is how much more quickly time passes as we get older. I remember my grandmother saying that time speeds up as we age, and I remember poo-pooing her observations. You know ... the wisdom of Soloman at the ripe 'ol age of 10. Lo' & behold ... as is so often the case, our sage mothers and grandmothers end up being right. Anyone else notice a difference in the passage of time???

I belive that my views have changed alot and mostly I think that it has to do with maturity. I now pay tax, work my a** off and have to pay rent, food, and all other things that I was spared from when I was younger. I do belive that this happens to most people. U are so innocent when u are young, innocent and naiv =)

Oh god yes. Even in just the passed five years my views on so many things have changed. My political views, my views on relationships, money, career goals... they've all shifted. I think that maturity has something to do with it, but mainly life experiences. I've been out there in the real world, I know what's important and what's not to me now. I wasted so much time chasing after things that I thought I wanted, and once I had them.... The experiences really opened my eyes.

I can't believe the way some of my views have changed, it still surprises me when I think about it.

I'm in my 20's now, so I know that my views have changed since I was younger and probably will change when I get older. Growing up and getting out of highschool and into college is certainly a big step and that definitely made me see things a bit differently now since I'm semi on my own.

Yes , I would say a great deal of my views have changed since I was younger . I believe that different events that happen in our life or just listening to what someone else has to say can change the way we once felt . For example when I was younger I knew I didn't want more then two children and my husband wanted four . We now have five and I am not sure if I would say that I am done as I couldn't imgaine how much I would enjoy being a mom or how much having a little one in the house would feel me with so much happiness .

When I was younger, I always said that I would never be one of those stay at home moms, that i'd have a career and a family...These days, all i want is to have a baby and stay at home and raise our children myself. I see how bad the kids of today are, and i can't help thinking that if they had been raised by their parents and not family members or nannies, they might have turned out better.

My views have constantly changed over the decades. I think early on I was influenced by many people. Then I became influenced by life events and maturity. My views today are totally changed from even 5 or 10 years ago. I am at the point now where I could give a rats a** about a lot of things and I only concentrate on what really matters to me. After a while, you come to realize that a lot of things don't matter. All the little worries that tend to become bigger worries are not worth worrying about. And many of the concerns that you think are big issues, are not worth the time, because you are but one wave in the ocean. I see things so much differently since I now view the universe as unlimited. I am a part of that unlimited prosperity and anything is possible. I have found more inner peace and believe in myself more. I have given up all my old useless beliefs and replaced them with the power of prosperous thinking.

they certainly have. I used to think that all adults were idiots and that I, a teenager knew everything, and now I think the opposite, that I was an idiot when I was younger and now I know a bit more than I did then. I think it's just maturity.

My viewpoint has definitely changed. As you grow older and become the parent instead of the child you find that your own parents weren't so far off on the way you were raised. I don't think anyone inparticularly influenced me but just the fact that as you grow older different things become important to you. You mature and understand the things you didn't understand when you were younger. So that does play a part in your viewpoint changing. Personally I think that people are always changing as they get older.

Yes they have changed. I used to join student activist groups fighting for causes that i never fully understood. Basically fighting the capitalists.. now that i've graduated and working, my views have changed... and i'm wondering why did i ever join those groups?

Definitely, when I was younger I can't wait to be older and experience working and earn my own money. I thought life is pretty simple, but it's not easy as I thought. Getting older means greater responsibility. It's a little bit of everything you mentioned that changed people's views as we grow older.

My views have definitely changed over the years. I have fallen down, stood up, fallen down and stood up several times. These experiences have shaped up my character and thus changed my views in life.

Great question! Yes, my views have changed. The young have nothing to lose. They can afford to be idealogues. The older we get, and the harder we've worked to get where we are, it's natural to develop a desire to protect our investments. And, I don't just mean money. Our homes, our families, our values, our sense of accomplishment ... all that we've invested our blood, sweat, and tears into. I believe it was Churchill who said: "He who is not liberal when young, does not have a heart. He who is not conservative when old, does not have a brain." I don't want to sound jaded, but much of the liberalism of my youth faded away with wisdom, and life experience. There will always be a small percentage of the population who are not going to work, because they've grown accustomed to hand-outs. There will always be over-achievers, and there will always be folks who fall somewhere down the middle. With wisdom and experience, we learn that in matters of society, thinking is more productive than feeling. Being iealistic and liberal feels good, but at the end of the day, it's not good policy!

yes and thank goodness they have too ...lol I think for me the first reason was maturity ...and then came my kids so that made me change my mind about more things then ever ...a single person didn't influence me to change ...I think just the thought of my kids has made me change the most ...

I think I have always viewed life and what I expected from life pretty much the same as always. There are things I am passionate about in life and I always repected the views and opinions of others but it never truly affected how I felt.

Life experiences have definetly changed the way I think about things that I thought that I felt pretty strong when I was younger, I just kinda chalked it up to getting older. :)

My views have definitely changed from when I was younger and I do believe it's caused by a combination of everything you mentioned. Life changes us continually I think. And having children was the biggest thing to change my view. I care more about them and their lives then I ever would have thought possible. Silly things that use to be priorities in my life no longer matter to me.

My views have changed a lot. I think living in the real world certainly makes you think differently about things. Also the older I get the more deeply I think about things and am more motivated by thinking about the future for my children instead of just thinking about myself.
