Has anyone of you guys ever tried an oatmeal diet. My officemates are are on an oatmeal diet and I think they were really successful. One of my officemates lost 20 lbs in 2weeks time. What he does is eat heavy lunch and just eat oatmeal the whole day. I want to start on this too and see the results but there are times that I really can't stand oatmeal. What do you do to make oatmeal more flavorful and tasty?

I enjoy oatmeal and my favorite way to make it is to add one chopped up apple, a small handful of raisins, and a bit of cinnamon to the water -- once it comes to a boil, I add the oatmeal and cook it for 5 minutes. When it is done, I stir in a few packets of Splenda and sometimes, I add a sliced banana. It is delicious and VERY filling!

I have oatmeals for breakfast. I add fruits like banana, kiwi, strawberries or mango and raisins or chopped prunes. I tried putting cinnamon on it once but didn't like the outcome. When I first had my oatmeal, I added only sugar and milk on it and I didn't liked it. I tried putting chocolate milk and it's still the same. It was when I added bits of fruits and raisins that I got the kick out of this healthy breakfast. I no longer even have to add sugar on it since it already taste so good. Now I am addicted to it so much that I can eat a large bowl. No wonder I gained weight afterwards. Nevertheless, my cholesterol levels are at a healthy levels and my bowel movement's now regular.

Plain oatmeal can decrease your cholesterol in a couple weeks to a month but it is considered a carbohydrate so you would be eating nothing with carbs. If you want to try it though, use the Quaker *Instant* plain oatmeal (instant is just less of a hassle - regular oats take too long to soak up the water) in the tub and add peaches or some other easy fruit to it like strawberries. Not only will it give you flavor it will be a more balanced diet. Also, muscle burns more fat than anything and you need lean protein along with regular workouts to build the extra muscle you need to lose weight. Also, eat and drink things low in sodium as too much sodium will make you retain water to the point where you can't lose weight easily.

wow. thanks for all the tips. I'll be sure to make a note of all of this. I take in a lot of sodium in my daily meals. That might be the reason why I can't lose weight in spite of all the excersice. You've been very helpful.

I've never heard of the oatmeal diet, can anyone explain it in detail to me, so that I know how to do it. It sounds like something I might want to try, to just kick start the diet regiem. I am getting my treadmill set up this week too. Yippeee. As for a different way to eat oatmeal, my sister fries it. I will have to get the "recipe" how she does it that makes it just a finger food snack. It's really good though.

Well what you do is eat a heavy brunch of just the regular food you eat. And then substitue oatmeal in all the other meals like dinner, snacks etc. But you should incorporate fruits or veggies in your meals too that way you get balance diet. At first they said this would make you feel week but then as you get the habit it's just natural. This is a good way to lower your cholesterol level too.

And Louisek... you should add the protein in the diet to. Probably in the brunch or the heavy meal you'd be having for the day.

Guys here some other tip I got searching thru the inet: The secret to losing weight is drinking lots of water, exercising, and watching what you eat. That’s it. For the oatmeal diet specifically: 1. I try and eat “oatmeal” every day. 2. I change things up by eating Irish oatmeal aka steel cut oats, regular oatmeal, cream of wheat, and polenta but I mostly eat the Irish oatmeal or Quaker Oats instant oatmeal. 3. Lots of variables to make oatmeal interesting, adding raisins, honey, dried cranberries or other berries, brown sugar, milk, walnuts, many, many, many. 4. There’s protein in oatmeal and just lots of goodness. The guy also said: "I dropped to my lowest weight when I ate oatmeal for breakfast sometimes also at lunch but often at lunch I would just eat soup or a salad and then for dinner something sensible. That’s what I’m going back to this year so I can get down to an Ironman weight of 165-170lbs or so."

I'm not sure if eating a heavy lunch and oatmeal for the rest of the day is healthy or not. A friend told me to eat oatmeal only yesterday. She did tell me it helps in weight loss, but I was a bit skeptical of the same. I would suggest you have instant oatmeal with fruits for breakfast and eat less on the other two meals. To have a balanced everyday diet, its essential to cut down on portions rather than on meals itself. It's better to five small meals in day than three heavy full meals. I am planning to replace cereal with oatmeal, hope it helps. It is also essential to exercise for healthy weight loss.

I wouldn't be able to do that since I spend most of my time in the office. We only go fast food sometimes. So the healthiest I can get is fruit and veggies, oatmeal and multivitamins. The protein intake is concentrated on the brunch since it's the only time I can eat from home.

Well, I have not heard of this one before. I do like oatmeal, but, this sounds a bit extreme. What about breakfast? Do I gather you just eat oatmeal all day, with bits and pieces added? You would be missing a lot of vitamins, and proteins. What about iron? If you really want to try this diet, you had better take a multi vitamin as a supplement. Good Luck.

Yes, I would be taking in multivitamins. And I wouldn.t eat just oatmeal the whole they. There is also 1 meal in the day that I would take in the regular stuff.

I love oatmeal! And I didn't know that you could go on an oatmeal diet and lose weight. What I do to spice up my oatmeal is put brown sugar on it with some kind of friut. I always find that strawberries or bananas are the best.

I never heard of an oatmeal diet but I do like to eat oatmeal, especially in the winter. I like putting frozen blueberries in the oatmeal while it is hot. It cools the oatmeal off right away so that I can eat it without burning my mouth. I also have put a dab of peanut butter and honey in it before I place it in the microwave to cook. When I take it out I mix it up and it tastes great if you like peanut butter. My wife likes to add a little brown sugar or maple syrup. Not too much though or it will be to sweet. I hope this helped.

i usually have the instant quaker oatmeal that i can just add hot water then mix with low fat or non fat milk & enjoy eating with sliced fresh fruits either banana with little maple syrup , peaches , pears or apples. that's usually for morning with milk & fruits. for dinner i can enjoy oatmeal with grilled fish & steamed vegetable or w/ chicken soup or steamed lean pork meatballs with tofu. always minimize or avoid frying to lessen the fat in your meal. instead of having rice or bread for the meal grab a bowl of plain oatmeal. drink lots of water & don't forget a daily intake of multivitamins!

oatmeal is rich in fiber but i suggest that you keep it as one of your diet sustenance because the body needs a lot of nutrient and minerals coming from different food and food groups targeting a particular mass or organ of our body.a well balance diet will do without sacrificing yourself on not eating the flavorful and tasty food that you like to eat.it is all in moderation. if you want flavor in your oats, there are flavored oatmeals around or if you are into chocolate then sprinkle it with. if you want to trim down because you are on the heavy side , i would suggest you look this up in the inet, phytoshape, is a slimming pill from canada.$60 good for 15 days.

Oatmeal diet - I love oatmeal with cinnamon and raisins. But a diet of oatmeal - sounds intriguing. 20 pounds in 2 weeks is a lot of weight. They must have been exercising heavily as well. I would think this is better then a grapefruit diet or the cabbage soup diet, but in the long run is still unhealthy. Anyone else feel the same way?

H edoesn't exercise a lot but he is pretty active and he has a very good metabolism. Im not sure yet about this. I'll try the oatmeal diet for about 2 weeks as well and then change my diet in a much balanced one. I also do belly dancing so I think that would help me in the exercise part.

Wow 20 lbs in 2 weeks. That is a lot. I'm trying to lose weight as well. I already started an exercise regimen plus i am keeping track of the calories i take in. Maybe i should try this oatmeal diet as well. I never liked oatmeal, basically because i just always take it plain. But the other posters suggestions of adding fruits is definitely a good idea. I'll start on the oatmeal diet and see what happens. hmmmm.. it's either that or i go vegan. well goodluck on your diet as well.

So oatmeal diet really works. I want to try it too. I also want to lose 20 lbs. or 15 lbs. I'm going to start oatmeal diet too. But isn't it hard to eat only oatmeal? I think we can mix chocolate powder on oatmeal to add more flavor. :)

It is better to eat a balanced diet. I eat oatmeal, but only a few times a week. When I do have it, I like to have brown sugar and cinnamon with it. Sometimes I have raisins or peaches in it too

I personally like oatmeal ~ lol Have you tried any of the flavored ones? Or adding brown sugar or something sweet to the oatmeal? Milk? Haven't heard of the diet so not sure how they are supposed to fix the oatmeal -- can you whip up some oatmeal cookies and loose weight the same way?

I tried the chocolate flavor. I haven't seen any vanilla and apple and cinammon flavor in the market but they said quaker oats already have these varieties. With the cookies? Hehehee lots of fats with the chocolate. I don't really know.

I dont need an oatmeal diet since then because i'm not that fat. But i do love to eat oatmeal as my breakfast. Yes, it's also a good diet for chubby ones..lol It can really loose weight. I love eating oatmeal with milk, or with choco powder, or with fruit on top or even no flavor at all just a simple sugar will do..

I don't have to eat a lot to feel bloated. There are 1 servings pack in the supermarket and 1 of that per meal is good enough. It's really up to up but I can say as big as I am I don't need a lot.
