This is such a sad story, that is making the front pages everywhere in the UK this morning. Little Casey-Leigh Mullen was just 2 years old. Her family called her "Smiley" because she was always cheerful. Last night she was found dead at home here in the UK. She had been raped, and murdered. The Police have arrested her Uncle (her Father's brother), on suspicion of this terrible thing. My question is..... what on earth could ever drive someone to do such a terrible ting And how would you react if it was someone in your own family?

what an awful story- that poor girl and her family.
For the most part when someone commits a crime like this -it usually means that it was done to that person when they were little, that is why they encourage them to get help when this happens so they learn how to stop the cycle from repeating itself. Some people, unfortunately, are just beyond help, my friend works with people like this on a daily basis, it is very sad how many people have been abused and hurt by their own family members.

This is terrible, what a sad situation. I think people who can do these things have mental problems of some sort. There is no way this type of person can be normal if they can even contemplate such a thing let alone actually carry it out. I also don't believe this type of person can be rehabilitated. I think they have serious problems and need to be locked up for life. I can't imagine ever having to go through this type of situation myself and I really don't know how I would react. I'm sure I would want to kill the person who did that to a child of mine.

Oh that is such a terrible story and you know we are hearing more and more of it. The poor little girl and what she must have gone through. Her parents must be devastated as it is not to mention how much worse they must feel when it was someone in their own family that did it. There are a lot of sick people out there and what would ever make someone do such a thing is beyond me. It's so sad. I'll say a prayer for her today.

This is quite depressing, but I am afraid we have to accept the fact that such incidents are in the rise these days. I hope you remember the incident in India wehere a good number of kids were abused and killed by a group of people and buried secretly, over a number of years. These can only be just some instances of the beast in man making its appearance. Many such cases even go unreported. I know of man who raped his brother's six year old daughter. The abuse went on for few months and the terrified child was unable to express her suffering though her behavour changed and she showed signs of depression. Fortunately for her, the counsellor at school was able to extract her story during a psychiatric help session. And with the help of her family, the man was brought for trial. He did not show any sign of guilt, and described everything he did to her in the most cold-blooded manner. People were really agitated, but his behavious made it clear that he lacked any concern for the moral issues related to this. he was just aware of the consequences, but never acknoledged the fact that what he had done was wrong. He spoke of the child as if she was his rightful 'partner'. This actually set me thinking of how a person could behave in this manner. Is it because human civilization has failed to civilize some people? That it is not possible to change the natural instincts of someone? That there is a beast in every one of us? That men are truly capable of the ultimate level of violence, and unlike their four-legged counterparts, they use it just for fun and not for survival? It seems we won't be any more 'cultured' or 'civilised' if we fail to find answers to these disturbing questions.

I don't think that there is any excuse for someone doing something so horrific as this.... I think those kind of people are very evil. They can claim insainity or whatever but they are just using it at an excuse. I don't believe that anyone that does these kinds of things deserve the right to claim insainity... It is just an excuse for them to use so they don't look as bad as they should look. And people need to take responsibilty for their actions no matter what the COST!!!!

The person I mentioned was not using insanity as an excuse, but worse than that - he simply refused to acknowledge the fact that there was anything wrong in he did, always claiming that he had his conscious self in control. Punishing such a person may warn others who acknowledge the values behind the laws, but it won't change him or other people like him. They would just find a more effective means to hide evidence. My quastion is, how shall we ever sort this out? Other than punishment, how do we ever accommodate/get rid off such people, who may not have committed crimes, but are capable of it, in our society?

i cant find words strong enought to express the revulsion and repulsion i'm feeling inside me just now. just goes on to prove that the girl child is actually safe nowhere, no matter how much progress mankind has made from being animals. the devil has numnerous ways of manifesting itself, but raping a girl child/woman is one of its most favourite and no laws or awareness or education at the school level is an antidote to it. i really dont know how i would have reacted had this happened in my immediate family, but thankfully nothing of this sort has happened to anyone i know.

That is abosulutely horrible. What must have been going through that two year olds head? To have her uncle doing these terrible things to you. I don't know how I would keep my hands off the person. It would be all I could do. But I would have to let the person have his day in court.

I really and truly feel for this little girls family as they must be horribly devastated right now. I have a two year old daughter as well as a 5 year old and i have no idea what i would do if such a thing happened to my daughters. I am devasted just reading this and it is heart breaking to even think about! May the Lord be with them!!

There are alot of means why people can make evil things. although unreasonable to say but most of bad things are caused of revenge, anger, rebellion and many. I don't find it just to rape a 2 yr old girl or any other women who will satisfy your lust. Raped isn't a word nice to hear anyway. and its illegal and vioates human rights. If i i got a news that a family relative committed a crime like that, even i could probably sue him and throw him to jail.

i am disgusted. i really cant see why someone could get it in their mind to do something so terrible. its awful! the man deserves to be hung. he needs to die, thats all there is to it. i couldnt imagine anyone in my family doing something this awful. we just arent bad like that. what would put someone in that mind set to do it? i wonder of something occuried in that mans life to make him go crazy, or maybe he thought it would be fun? why hadnt the parents known not to leave the child with that man?

Well the alleged kiler is the child's own uncle - her Father's brother. I guess they felt they could trust him because he was family. If you cannot trust your own flesh, and blood, who can you trust?

They are just sadistic, psychopaths. It is not humanely possible to explain any reason for such an action. That too, just a 2 year old kid. I am not saying that it is fine if it is with an adult, but an adult has a possibility to defend herself. A kid does not even know what is happening.

What? That guy raped and murdered a 2-year-old kid? He is not a human being, it is a monster!
I am really upset by this news, I hope that the uncle can be punished heavily.

OMG... that is really terrible... i don't know what drive people to do those evil things... but ever since we fall into sin, i think our hearts have become so wicked and evil and the only way that we can get rid of these evil things is by going back to our Creator who is God... it is so sad that human beings become so evil because when God first created us, we are pure and sinless until Adam and Eve fall into temptation...

I honestly don't know what would drive someone to do something this vile and so disgusting. How would I react, easy. I would kill them, the guy will wish he was never born. I don't care who the person is in my family, I would kill them. No child in this world doesn't deserve that.

I would react the same way regardless if he was a member of my family or not. That would be to make sure he paid for it for the rest of his life and if they parent were to be vindicated then the law should take the life of this evil wicked creature . I can't call him a man because he has given up his right to be considered human!

some people are really cruel. I don't know how someone could do that to a child and someone who is their family. If you can't trust your family who can you trust?
