I love it when it's dark. I don't know why but even when i was young, I would watch horror movies alone in my roon with the lights out. I'm much more comfortable when the lights are off or dim.

I used to be. my aunt used to tell me that kids who are afraid of the dark don't clean their room. I used to think she would say that just to scare me, but she was abosolutely right. My bedroom was always junky and i would mistake all of my clutter for people or floating objects. Tell your sister to clean her room. She wont be afraid anymore.lol

I'm not afraid of the dark at all.... quite the opposite, actually. The darker the better! When I was a kid my cousin used to insist on having a night light or hallway light left on but where there is light... there are shadows, so I prefer it pitch black at night. Plus, I figure that if I can't see an intruder then they can't see me either, right? I don't believe in monsters, other than humans who do monsterous things.
My son is, what I call, a 'chicken boy' and very much afraid of the dark. I always tell him that the things in the dark are the same as the light, except darker. I show him with a flashlight that nothing has changed except the amount of light. He still likes to keep the light, tv or a a flashlight on to go to sleep though.

I see. That really makes sense. I'm not afraid of the dark too. I kinda like darker places than well-lit ones. That really is an insightful response. Thanks! =)

its just that I'm afraid because I can't sense things in the dark. Maybe you will bump onto something or a eecky insects might crawl on my skin. lol. but there are times when you choose to be in the dark when you are with someone. lol

i can say im not USUALLY afraid of the dark. but there are times when im really afraid of it. those are the times when i've been to a little chat about scary experiences or encounters with the unknown/supernaturals and my imagination would run wild. ^__^;; but during "normal" times, im not really scared. sometimes, i actually like it coz it makes me sleep right away.
i remember there was a time when i woke up and i panicked and got really scared, coz it was so pitchblack and i cant see nothing. and it was so silent and nobody's moving around or making even a slight noise, not even the sound of lizards or bees. i got scared i thought i gone blind. and then i guess i fall asleep again that night thinking i might have gone blind. and then i woke up and i saw the rays of the sun. oorah. ^__^

I'm soon to be 32, and I still hate the dark with a passion. Always have, and from the looks of it, I always will!

I've known people that is 40+ years old and they still tremble when left alone in the dark.. Well, it's kinda like a phobia in their case.. I hope it isn't in yours. =)

Exactly. People only get scared of ghosts because of their imagination. Spirits cannot harm us, not that that actually can. Thanks for the response! =)

I am in my 30's and still afraid of the dark sometimes. I am mainly scared when I am home alone and hear noises outside or something. We live in the country and you can hear all kinds of animal noises and there is an old cemetary close by us also.

I see.. Countrysides really are spooky at night, and the fact that you live near a cemetery doesn't help at all.. =/

Nope..not afraid of the dark. I'm right at home there..the fact that I've spent alot of time in it, my eyes are used to adjusting in it better than alot of people..especially out in the country, what most people in the city consider as 'dark' is reading light for me lol. Which strikes me as funny..but yeah..it's just fun sneaking up on people I know in the dark and everything since alot of people ARE afraid of the dark it's too easy to do.
I love the dark and the night time myself..I have to say (I skimmed the other comments) complete darkness is not for any creature, let alone mankind..accept maybe the fish and stuff which live way in the deep..they've their own lights though, so they're fine. Not even a CAT can see in complete darkness.
But as long as there's a little light..most people could get along fine -- if they didn't let panic make them stumble around that is! ^.^
Blessings,
P

Haha! Right. I agree. It really depends on the person. A person who grew up in well-lit places wil be terrified when left in a dark place. So, come to think of it, it's better to grow up in the dark. That way, it won't matter if it's dark or light. LOL
Have a nice day!

I am not afraid of the dark really...but total darkness is not what humans are made for, so as everyone else i feel more awkward when i cannot see anything. It's interesting to see how irrational we all get with things we cannot control such like total darkness...
