How can God be holy and yet forgive sin?

Each person must decide whether to receive or reject Christ!
To receive Christ means, You agree with God that you are a sinner,You accept that Christ died for your sins and rose again to give you new life, You are willing to allow god to help you leave all your sins and stop living your life away from God.

I think people should try to be good whether or not they believe in God.
I was brought up to believe that God would forgive all of our sins if we are truely sorry. In that case why not wait until you die and then if God is real you can say sorry and still be accepted into heaven.
