If the cemetery were older and small, I don't think I would mind as much. A cemetery is sacred ground, so I would always remind myself that a lot of folklore has you bury remains on sacred grounds to enable a spirit to rest. However, I think I would get depressed if I lived next to a newer cemetery that was still having new burials all the time. Seeing the mourners would probably really start to get to me. That would be a deal breaker.

Hmmm...I think it depends on how big a cemetary. If it was one of those huge ones and that's all you see...then maybe not. But if it was a smaller older one, I don't think I would mind. I think cemetaries can be really pretty and interesting. I live in New England so there are some cool historic ones around here.

You have a point. Maybe I'd reconsider living near a cemetery if that isn't all I see from my window. Nice point. =) Thanks for the response!

Okay, let's look at the positive angles on this one.
Nobody throws loud parties that reside in a cemetery, big plus!
There are no ambulances(sirens) because no one is in a rush to get there.
There are always pretty flowers that people bring when they come to visit the lots.
You don't have to worry about the residents keeping up the lawn because there is a caretaker.
There are no junkers parked in the drive.
No barking dogs!
There are lots of great things written on the stones that can be very interesting to read while you take lovely walks through the area. And it really is very lovely and peaceful there!
And....best of all, it is a great neighbor to have for Halloween spirit!
Heck, I think I will look into a location like that....not in the cemetery, but next to it. Doing stone rubbings on really old headstones can be a great hobby also!

Well, the place where i am staying is far from the city ,its actually inside a horse riding school, full of trees n bushes, like a forest. Its very cool calm n nice place to be, u wont realise that u are so close to the city when u go to that place, but there are lot of poisionous snakes(read indian cobras ) for company lol, which bothers me, so i wont mind ,having company of ghosts instead of snakes, i will take that if the house is even reasonably good.
Thanks.

why not? if that is the only place i could go to. here in our country, specially to strict cities, there are land zonings that prohibits this from happening. there are designated places for residencial, commercial, cemeteries are included under institutional so if you noticed, they are mostly located or adjacent to city halls, churches etc.

I see.. We here at the Philippines don't really have those kind f zoning policies. Most cemeteries here have really close houses nearby.. =/

Hi. I live fairly close to a cemetary. We live in a subdivision. We are not from this area and had no clue there was a cemetary that close to where we live. It is a really old cemetary too but there is also some new burials there. I never really think about the cemetary unless I am here by myself at night time and hear noises.

Haha.. Some revelation there eh? Well, I haven't lived in a house near a cemetery so I have no idea what it feels like. =) But hey, it's a nice thing especially when Trick or Treat comes around. =)

That was also my initial reaction upon hearing this question from one of my colleagues.. But after what others has said in this thread, I might reconsider. =)

well it wouldn't be my favorite location, but i wouldn't say NO only for that. I wold have to ponder several pros and cons including it's location, and then i would decide...i don't believe in ghosts n such so that wouldn't be a problem for me.

I will never live next to a cemetery. It is so scary. Though there is no ghost, I am still afraid of it. Sometimes when I have to pass a tomb, I even feel like a coward as if there were a ghost there scaring me. Oh, my. Never.
