Lush products that just didn't smell quite like you were expecting ...

In either a good or bad way.
I'm talking ones that you've read the description of, and expected one thing, and got another - whether that be good or bad. Our noses always can interpret things slightly different, after all!
And it would be interesting, I think, to see what impressions people have gotten of various products!
I'll start. Honeywood was always described as HIWTK in shower gel form, right? And I've heard people say it smells like that toffee/honey combo to them. But I honestly do not get the same scent from it. Yes, the scent I get is honey, but ... it's like a nice cup of tea spiked with lemon and a big oozing spoonful of honey. It seriously reminds me of the tea you'd have when sick - this is not a bad thing at all, it's quite pleasant, but it definitely was nothing like what I expected.
Any ones you've had this happen with, for good or bad?

Each Peach! When I first picked it up at the store I expected it to smell like....well peaches. But instead it's a super citrusy smell. I really like it, especially in the summer, but it was a bit shocking the first time I smelled it.

It's funny...everytime I take someone new into the LUSH store, they pick up Each Peach and give it a big sniff....and I wait for the inevitable "Hey! This dosen't smells like peaches!"

Withoutwings, I know what you mean. LUSH has gone citrus crazy lately. And for some reason, a lot of the scents remind me of lemon Pez.

Happy soap, isn't it supposed to smell like citrus? I got plastic toy smell off of it. Couldn't have waited to finish this one.
Coalface, I really wasn't expecting a scent. I was actually thinking it maybe aroma neutral or earthy scent. I totally wasn't expecting the licorice scent, which I really don't like.
Youki-Hi, saw this in the catalog and thought I may like it since I am a sucker for florals. Smelled in the store and gagged. To me it smells like old lady perfume and mothballs. yuck!

I am with you on the old lady smell. I expected coal face to be licorice though - so I bought it for my fiance who loves it. I can't stand it when he keeps it in the shower though because I can smell it.

I totally agree, I picked up a piece of happy soap in the store once, and instantly thought "ew, it smells like plastic!"
Youki-hi totally gags me too, but so does Karma. All the Karma line gives me a headache, and Ginger also smells like old ladies to me, it's really gross.

Oh yeah, Ginger = old ladies. I got a sample once and was *extremely glad* I didn't buy any.
I also thought that Silky Underwear powder smelled like old ladies. I was really bummed out because it got all of these rave rave rave reviews. But I'm like- ew. I use it now on my sheets because I can deal with it from a distance.

Oh, and I expected Skins Shangri La to smell sort of green and floral, but it doesn't smell like anything. And I expected Enchanted Eye Cream to smell like lavender, but it, too, smells like nothing. Sigh.

Dream Cream. The way people talked about it, I thought it was supposed to smell as well as it worked. Instead it just kinda smells dirt and wood to me. Don't get me wrong, I like sandlewood, but Dream Cream did nothing for me.

I was sort of surprised at DC too. I thought that it would smell more lavendar-y. I don't think it has much of a smell at all.

The smell made me sick at first for some reason. It was really overpowering. Very floral. It gave me a bad head ache. I gave it a couple days, and now I can use it. It's not the smell that does it for me though, but the way it makes my skin feel.

Sakura. I know it's supposed to smell like 17 CTL which I love, but Sakura smelled like feet to me.

Feet? who's feet are you sniffing? I like Sakura - but I've never smelled 17 CTL so I can't really compare them. Isn't it funny how different people's noses smell different things?

1. Emporer of Icecream. Everyone raved about it. It smelled so gross in my opinion. I couldn't get rid of it fast enough.
2. Ring of Roses - I was expecting it to smell like Roses (duh!) but I was so disappointed when I used it and it smelled like lemon.
3. Mud flats - I got a sample last night and it too smelled like lemon. (What's with all the citrus?)
4. Little Monkey - I though it would smell like bananas.... it smelled like play doh.
5. Softy - I thought it would smell pretty with all the flowers - instead it smelled like an old person... you know cold cream, and age, and steam curlers

I really wanted to try out Spank me with Saplings, I thought from the description it sounded just like my kinda scent (I love all green and earthy scents). Luckily someone was willing to send me a sample, because I absolutely can't stand the smell :( It smells like they just threw in anything they could get their hands on, I'm so not surprised that this has been discontinued!

Ultrabland. I thought it would smell sort of like unscented lotion or cold cream. No. It smelled like- ugh- dried saliva or something. I almost couldn't use it. I got accustomed to it, but ick!
Snow Fairy- it's not unpleasant at all. I was surprised that it smelled so much like bananas.

Snow fairy is the one lush product that really literally makes me feel sick to my stomach. When we first got it in when I worked there one xmas we opened to sniff for the first time, and I almost gagged. It's so sickeningly sweet it makes me feel sick, and yet it got so popular...

Yeah, Snow Fairy reminds me of this pink banana scented medicine I was given as a kid when I got broncitis. Ew!

well, that's the thing isn't it - that's why I started this thread. Because it always seems one person is smelling oen thing, and the other is walking up and going 'oh wow, how can you say it smells like ___, it smells like ___'!
Whether that be a 'oh, gross' reaction, or a 'oh, wow' reaction ... it's interesting to see how much personal reactions to the scents differ when you're smelling the same thing. Makes you wonder what goes on in the brain to make all these varying reactions - cause often it's not just a scent preference issue (I like food scents not flower scents) but an actual different scent being experienced alltogether.

Really?!? HIWTK I've found to be one of the only predictable scents that Lush makes! Funny how we smell different things. I think HIWTK smells like milk and honey. Mmm.
