ok not to stir things up or cause trouble, but im very curious.. see yesterday i posted a new discussion on alcohol and children, in which i never stated that we should go and get kids drunk or the like, however i got quite a few comments on it that were just plain ignorant to the topic at hand! im still new to mylot and so far have been getting quite a few educated and good comments as feedback on my discussions, but some of the ones i read this morning just blew my mind that ppl are really that ignorant! so my question is this.. do u encounter many ignorant mylot users? or was it just my topic that brought them out?

Hi honey, it could have been a bit of both unfortunately. I did that discussion and thought your meaning was fairly clear. When you have been here a littl longer you may find that you mke better friends who answer discusions sensbily.
I have some good friends on here but you have to learn to avoid the idiots.
Don't worry too much, if people pick on me unneccessarily I just defend myself and then avoid them, problem solved.

Hi Babes, it's a sad fact of life that many people see the worst all the time, cup half full/half empty kind of thing, lol.
I try to remember the words Christina: I am beautiful no matter what they say, so don't you bring my down today, that song makes me cry but it's true for all of us, ahhh lol.

thankies much hon HUGS
i dont really think they were picking on me.. my double take was in the fact that ppl would actually think something like that of me? i mean sure i may be a stranger to them and all but still you know... u dont just go around assuming someone goes around wanting to get kids drunk lol

Honestly what I have run into is people not reading the post well enough to understand the posts main directive. I have gotten responses that I have to ask, "now where did that come from". I think the language barrier, interpretation, is the real culprit because as I look for conversations to get involved in I find so many I just do not understand myself.

I hate when people answer to a topic and clearly haven't even read the whole question, I would say it wasn't just your topic. Some people try to get as many posts done a day, so probably just read the heading and go in and type some half-assed answer that isn't really very relevant.
If I get them in my topics....I often give them a negative rating especially if it's just some random answer!

I've done that too! also reported someone who was just copying and pasting other peoples answers from further up in the topic

I have seen alot of my discussions end up with posts that have me wondering if the reader actually read what I wrote, only read a part of it and guessed at the rest, or really does not have a good grasp of the English language and tried to answer the best they could.
Of course there are always those few people who just post mean and rude things, or things that that just make you want to post a response - but then you decide life is too short and you just move on.
I know that there are many posts that I just pass on replying too because I can barely understand what the discussion is about -- I do not want to misread myself, or I do not want to go into detail on a topic I'm not sure the member with poor English/grammer skills will be able to understand themselves.

Unfortunately,
Everyone has their own way of understanding things and their comprehension sometimes ends up limited, resulting in an inacurate response. I see it often. I too started a discussion this morning and the responses were not what I expected either. It sometimes happens when responding to discussions and someone comments on your answer, not at all getting what you said. It can be a little frustrating, but it will frustrate you immensely if you take it to heart. Even if you get one good response out of ten, it's worth it.

there are educated and ignorants everywhere, hence also in mylot. For me the main problem is not that they're ignorants or not, but the rate of fanaticism and tolerance.
You can support a position that i completely disagree with, i can even find it hilarious to defend a certain position, but I will never put you down just for the fact that you disagree, obviously if you state your opinion with respect and manners.

Unfortunately a large percentage of MyLot users are here only for the money and they usually don't even bother to read the discussions they are responding to.
I didn't see your earlier discussion but will try to find it now.
All we can do is to ignore the ignorant ones and keep looking because deep down there somewhere, there are really good discussions with educated and well thought out questions and answers.

well i respect your opinion with this matter,
but please be gentle with our fellow mylot users, do not say hurting words.
i think they did not read your post so well,so they respond without knowing its content.
i know you are educated enough to understand them
have a heart to understand....
thank you and good day....

I think that it is like the first one said. many people just read the first 2 or three lines and then they make a judgement. I have seen this alot here at myLot and it is bad that people don´t read the whole thing- I think I made a reply to your post yesterday and That I just expressed my opinion, i hope I didn´t offend you!.

I find a lot of people who just want to write something, anything. They quickly glance at the post and then fire off a response.Anything to earn another penny. Then there are the people who haven't even got the basic knowledge of what you are trying to discuss. Like a book or movie or tv show. If you haven't seen it or read it, how can you make an informed response? The answer is you can't.
I have to agree with the others too. Some of the people on here don't have English as their primary language and can miss some of the nuances of the English language. Also, they may not understand some slang terms. I have learned to avoid slang and be very explicit to get my point across.

well, my friend, dont worry about those people, there are too many of them out there. it is not worth your time to fight over with them, you are doing good, just keep on posting, you cant worry about too much on them, most of the time i just go "oh ok thanks you" than just go on doing something else.

We do have the problem that there are a lot of people here whose native language isn't English, so they may have trouble understanding the discussion. But there are plenty of native English speakers who are nearly illiterate or incapable of understanding anything more complex than what you'd find in a fourth or fifth grade reader. And plenty more who just can't be bothered to read carefully before they throw in their one cent.

yeah those are the posts that i can overlook because there is obviously a communication problem do to language.. but the responses i mean here are the ones who are obviously very well spoken in the english language, and yet they jump to conclusions and assume things and just give really odd responses! but im sure u know what i mean!
thanks much for your response!

i did not encounter problems such as yours, but i think communication is the best problem we have here at mylot, i know people here are all intellectual, knowleagable and interesting to respond with.my advice will be,let them do what they wanted to do,ignore them, they just dont know what to do here.

What I have found on myLot isn't necessarily "ignorant" members so much as people who just don't take the time to read original discussions through, especially if the are several paragraphs long (rather than one-liners) and include the original poster explaining their point of view and then asking some questions.
Because myLot is a "get paid" site, there will ALWAYS be people on the site whose sole purpose is to "read" and "comment" on the largest number of discussions they can... without actually taking part in the dialogue. I am fairly new here, too-- and I really don't think there's a way around that. I try to just be appreciative of the quality reponses, and often end up being a regular reader of those people's discussions.
Of course, the more "controversial" any topic is, the more "odd opinions" do seem to bubble to the surface.

posting interesting topics will increase the possiblity for responses, i think you should earch for good topics if you want to earn well with starting a discussion, responding more than 100 discussions daily will increase your earnings

I think a lot of people tend to simply skim over the discussion and then rush to answer it without really knowing what the question was in the first place. Also there is a bit of a language barrier with some of the mylotters and this contributes to confusing responses sometimes. Then we have the people that simply don't bother to read, they just respond with something that really has nothing to do with the topic. I think for the most part, everyone tries to answer as best they can, but there are always a few who just want the money and want to make it as fast as they can.

Dreaming, please understand that when you enter a discussion anyone and everyone from "almost" one end of this world to the other end of the world can and will veiw it. Many people are just responding to discussions just to earn more money, some are responding with honest true feelings of how "they" would handle the issue at hand. Please do not get upset that "some" people see things a little differently than others. If you get some comments or feedback that you think is ignoranting, just delete it and remember, everyone "thinks" differently.

not they are some here that are like that. i had a discussion a few days ago that had different incidences like they would just type in random letters long enough to be a half of line just so they would go up one point, then i get people that say like whats this? and thats it. i wished people would just read the topic and put down their opinion and make sense at the same time.

My guess is that the nature of mylot.com in that people make money for posting is going to bring out a lot of hasty answers. I don't only anwer to topics that I have a huge interest and knowledge in, sometimes I just feel like stating an opinion without thinking it through first- it's fun and actually, reading other people's not so thought through answers has made me think that this is the place to say things just to get it out of my system.. it's like a free zone. School is for brains, hehe. :)
