I always recycle and make sure my kids do the same. I thought I was making a difference and that it was a good thing. In my city garbage is collected in one day, and recycling in another, but in other ones it's done at the same time. We were told that even in the later case, the trucks have two different places to separate the garbage from the recycling and I trusted that.Just a few days ago, though, I was listening to a talk show in the radio where someone that worked with the garbage and recycling commented that often garbage and recycling ends up mixed up and in the same landfill. SO what's the point on us going through the trouble of separating everything and making an effort to do our part to help the environment? I'm not sure anymore , but just in case I keep recycling. How about you?

Yes, we encourage our children to recycle. But does our city? I have heard that once collected, both recyclable and non recyclable waste is all dumped together (maybe a rumour, but who knows?) Anyways, we feel that we are doing OUR part for the environment. (We recycle clothing and goods as well!)

I have heard similiar things, that they just mix up the too and put it in a landfill. That makes me soo sad. I recycle everything possible, and I do my best to educate my friends and family on what can be recycled and how. The environment isn't going to last us forever if we don't take care of it. I keep recycling anyways hoping they will be recycled. I think the only thing we can do is send letters to our townspeople and such asking them to make sure the recyclables are actually being recycled.

Am a recycler. As many cans as I can get my hands on. Also scrap metal. Don't want it lying around here anyway. Am happy for the extra cash I get. We compost also. The garden gets better every year. Paper is used til it cannot be. Paper is also recycled here in the garden for composting or lining the walkways between the raised beds. Our food is 'recycled' since after we are done, there are a number of animals that will share it. There is a recycling plant in town however they don't take from an individual yet, only businesses. Can't wait for that!!! We each do what we can. It does help!!

Yes, I believe in recycling and I enjoy doing it. What they do with it on the other end............well, let's just say that it won't affect me in the actual recycling habit. I know that what they do in my town is the truth because my mother is on the recycling committee in town. Maybe you should check out with your city/town to see how they do it. If they do it right, then there's no problem for you. If they do it wrong, maybe you could find a place that does it right. The only problem with that is that you'd have to take it to the facility versus them coming to pick it up. That's just my opinion. I recycle or re-use anything and everything that I can. I donate items to local charities all the time, and now that I've found freecycle.org I'm just a happy camper. I love being able to offer items to others who need it. It's the "one person's junk is another person's treasure. Depending on where you are, some non-pfits that look for donations will actually go to your home to pick them up. Hope this helps!

Here in Spain, and also in the rest of the EU, there are 4 different garbage bins: blue one is for papers and cartons. Yellow one is for pvc, plastics, tetra bricks etc. Green one is for glass, and dark green one is for the rest...me and my family have been recycling already for years. I think it doesn't take such a big effort once you get used to it and it's helpful for our enviroment, so i strongly recommend doing it.

In Canada we used to have a gray bin for paper and cardboard and a blue one for the rest. Now, however we're to combine all recyclables in one bin only. I know it's not much work, but when I hear that it all ends in the garbage anyways it upsets me a bit :) I'll still continue recycling regardless.. just rant every once in a while hehe

We always recycle. Where I am there we have separate bins for recycling (one for paper, one for metals and plastics etc, and one for garden waste for example: weeds) and different trucks come to pick up the recycling and garbage. So we know they go to different places. We make an effort to recycle everything we can and it's very obvious how much room we save in the landfill. My family (of 4) produces less than a full bag of garbage every week while the other houses on the streets have 2-3 full bags. There is a rule that if a household has more than 3 bags of garbage, they have to buy a tag for the extra bags and sometimes my neighbours would put their extra bags on our curb to get around the rule. It drives my mom crazy, but we have no idea who does it. I think we should really put pressure on the government to do everything they can to create a cleaner, greener environment. Honestly, if they are willing to pay infinite amounts of money to fund the military, why can they implement real recycling facilities and hire enough staff to make it work?

whoops typo, that last line should read: 'why can't they implement...' instead of 'why can'

True.. sometimes I find they do get a bit confused about what should be funded:) I don't agree with the fee for extra bags though. People certainly don't make more garbage just for the fun of it. TO me it's just one more excuse to get some more money from taxpayers.

If you have clutter and/or items around your house you dont want to be bothered with selling or taking to the dump - then Freecycle is for you at www.freecycle.org for a Freecycle group in your area. Freecycle is international. Recycle items to avoid overfilling the garbage dumps and make space in your home. One man's trash is another man;s treasure" truely applies here. I have given away so many things that I almost trashed that someone wanted and even came and carted it away. You can put in requests, too, and from there I received a free handicapped electric lift recliner worth over $400.00 someone didnt need anymore! The only requirement is that you cant give away forbidden items like explosives and such and everything must be FREE, you cant barter, exchange or sell. Try it yourself!

I think that recycling is very good, and should be continued. In my area, they are just getting started, so it will take a while, before they have pickups for the things that I recycle, like plastic, I believe they have started with paper. But, anyways, you could file a complaint, or something, to get them to really do their part, because there is no doubt that they are probably getting a governmenatl subsidy or tax break for this. Or, your bill has gone up to accomadate it, and then, they no longer do it, to cut down on expenses. I am all for recycling and doing our part. Good luck, and good job.

Yes, I agree. That's why I continue doing it. But sometimes I have days when I wonder , hence the question:)

I think more people should recycle. If everyone would the environmetn would be so much better. They should make it a law everywhere to recycle. It's just sad if people are putting forth the effort to do it and they just dump it all in the same landfill anyway.
15 Feb 07
recycling is good in my opinion. so yes i believe in this very much so. i think it would be great if people stopped littering the streets. as this doesn't help and our councils have to pay people to clear the streets. not everyone i know does. i wished everyone would do this because it would make a huge difference. Kudos! ~Joey

I have been an avid recycler since I was a teen. There's something about it that makes me feel good every time I do it. I'm also into freecycling too. I'd rather give something away than throw it away if someone else can use it.

yup! recycling is not a bad idea. The proverb of best out of waste can be used and it can be used to the highest level where we can save lot of money and use our creative mind to get moulded.

Yes, i do. and our kids do too. What we do is we sell the papers, bottles, and cans to junk shops where they sell these to factories who recycle them. As of the garbage trucks, we do not know how they do it, but nevertheless, keep recycling! It will do more good than harm.
