Snow Day - If You Homeschool, Do You Let Your Kids Have Snow Days?

As homeschoolers, we don't have to go out in the weather to get to school. Just wondering if homeschoolers give their kids snow days. When the public school cancels, do you give your children the day off, too?

DS is only 1, but I hope to homeschool him in the future. I see no reason to take a day off. Part of the reason for homeschooling is to be able to do the work in less time and have more time for fun stuff. There's no reason we still couldn't spend a couple hours on work stuff, and then go enjoy the snow. I wouldn't see a need to take off in the summer either. Maybe make things a bit more relaxed, but nothing drastic. Learning shouldn't be a chore, it's a part of life.

I do not home school, but i would hope the child is allowed the day off as well so they can enjoy the snow with their friends just like any other student.Social education is just as important as book smarts.

The idea of a snow is that the roads are too bad or that the air is too cold. (IE. -13 with the wind chill) Usually the weather is not conducive of safely playing outside. I always made my daughter do her school work. I don't home school anymore but I never let her have a day off. I even made her do homework during the summer.
