Salmonella Poisoning in Peanut Butter

I'm a big fan of peanut butter, for me it ranks right up there with chocolate. The two combined? Even better :) Anyone remember those old Reeses commercials years ago? lol So, I like this particular "natural" brand, and I buy the kids the larger containers, usually Peter Pan brand, because they eat so much of it.
The Peter Pan was all that was left, so I took 2 spoonfuls of it for a snack. I woke up during the middle of the night feeling kinda nauseous(sp). Then when I got up in the morning, I ended up spending quite a bit of time on the potty.
Then this evening, I read this article online, about salmonella in Peter Pan peanut butter and the generic Great Value peanut butter, with the lot #'s starting 2111. Checked the lid on ours, and sure enough, it says 2111....No wonder I didn't feel well lol. Fortunately it's not that bad, my stomach is just kinda queasy, not throwing up or any fever. I'm just glad I didn't give any to the baby, I'd debated on giving her a little bit on some bread!! Anyway, here's the link for the news article, it's on Yahoo's homepage:

Is anything safe to eat anymore? This is getting so ridiculous and scary-especially when it's something that you don't cook like eggs or wash like veggies(though I don't think that would've helped in the spinach ecoli outbreak).

Let me tell you, when I looked at my Peter Pan peanut butter and it had that number on it, it was scary. But praise the Lord, we were not sick. My husband and I had a little of it, but we were fine. I through it out anyway.
I don't think control is what it used to be, because everyone these days are under paid and over worked. It's really awful what is going on.

It is kind of a really bad feeling isn't it? I threw mine away also, then dug it out. Figured if I ended up really sick over this or worse, at least I'd have proof as to what caused it. I think you're right about the overwork/underpay and quality control. Nobody seems to really care anymore, and I almost can't blame them-to a point. When it comes to unsanitary stuff though, there's no excuse.

My mom had some of that peanut butter also. She was lucky and had not opened hers yet. It is getting crazy. It really isn't safe anymore. About everything you eat anymore you are chancing something. If it isn't food poisoning, it is preservatives and chemicals that can harm you.

That's good she didn't eat any. I see the first lawsuit has been started on this. I was wondering how long it would take. I did read another article, it said it happened once before in the 90's in Australia. It was due to unsanitary equipment that was used. That just makes me feel sooo much better lol....Ick!!

wow cant believe it but still if yahoo says so then its true....and i doubt there is anything safe to eat out there i mean specially for those serious vegetarian ppl i mean i read a article on a book that almost all those flavours on a product are not just chemicals but are at times derived from animals.....and there is no difference between artificial and natural flavours ...weird huh ??
