Fairly inactive for 2 to 3 weeks. In India they are given 2 to 3 months maternity leave? Is that many days of relaxation is required?

Here they ae getting it down to one over night in the hospital then the ins wants to send you home...It's getting pretty pathetic how they cut corners these days.

They are not considerate. Lucky are the women folks in India. They are treated as V.I.P.'s (very important persons) and due respect for the women folk. Of course there are corrupt people among the hospital staff, but these people manage all of them.

My first two babies I stayed in the hospital for 2 days..then had 6 weeks of maternity leave! With my last baby I only stayed at the hospital for 1 day, and then was back home doing laundry and cooking dinner! LOL I wish I had 10 days of bed rest.

I had my babies at home. It was nice..and I took them out when they were three days old. Having babies was easy. It was the raising them that pained me...:-)

I wish I could have stayed in bed for longer than I did Here in the United States, they rush us out of the hospital too quickly: 2 days following a normal birth.

The government hospitals in Bangalore and elsewhere in India, allow people to stay for a week minium. If the child has to be put in incubator, then they stay for longer period.

I was discharged from the hospital less than 48 hours after giving birth and I wouldn't have minded staying a little longer than that, but I probaby would have been stir crazy if I had been expected to stay in bed for 10 days.

That sounds like bliss. Where I live. in Canada, they want you out of hospital as soon as possible. With my first I stayed in hospital one night. With my second, I went home the same day. I would have loved to have someone look after the baby while I caught up on some sleep after labor. I'm so lucky that my husband was able to take a week off to help, as I could barely walk when we got home.

If the delivery is normal, it requires 3 or 4 days rest. Women tend to stay at home for couple of months only to feed the infant and also to enjoy the company of infants.
