I don't know about their short term memory It might be weak But as far as I know the long term memory of Old people is fabulous
They remember almost everything about their Past and the stories that they tell us are amazing.
Yes as a person gets aged his short term memory does get weak but i think it is because the burden gets too heavy on the mind for them to hold back everything.
We have got to give them credit for remembering whatever they do .
And I do not think there is a memory revival or memory enhancing pill

As one ages, the short-term memory diminishes and unless you have a disease like Alzheimers your long term memory is unaffected. That is why Aunt Alice can remember her childhood like it was yesterday and can't remember where she laid her glasses down five minutes ago.

Yes, it looks like only short term memories diminish as they will still be remembering their old stories and it's amazing isn't it? if they really lose the memory, then how is it possible for them to remember old things....! isn't it? looking at things like this, i think there might come soem medicine for curing or improving of memory loss among old people...what do you say?

I do think this happens to many of us but i do know a lot of people that are still able to remember a lot of things even at an older age. So I think this applies to some of us but not everyone. It seems that some people remember things better as they get older. I know that I do not remmember everything that I used to remember. If there isn't something out there to help memory, there probably will be in the future. They are always coming out with something new.

I have also heard that memory power will be lost as one grows old. But, i think memory power might be reduced with time but maynot be gone completely isn't it? and i don't even think there exists any medicine to cure this memory loss isn't it? maybe , as you said some medicine might come in the near future

I know that some older people loose their memory as they get older. The memory that goes first is the short term. Not all elderly suffer from this. I don't know of any medicine that can boost your memory, but I have heard that exercising your mind helps. Working puzzles, reading, etc. are great ways to sharped your mind and these have been shown to decrease memory loss as one gets older.

Our brain is just like an attic. For a child the attic is empty and the child soon starts learning (filling up the attic). As a person grows old the attic becomes filled up. As the brain(attic) is not expandable, people tend to forget things as a person loses some small thing and is very difficult to find in a huge attic with so many things kept in disorder.

What is attic here? i am hearing this word for the first time and let me tell you that there are some old peopel who still hasn't lost any memory problems till now and are in a position to explain things as it is and there are other older one's who remember their old times but not the recent one's for sure...

People really keep loosing their memory andgetting slow in their funtions as they age. This is something due to autoimmune process. All this happens due to continuous oxidative stress on our brains. Stopping thisis some thing like stopping ageing, which if really succeded will be wonderful.

Yes, people getting slow in almost everything when they grow old is obvious and that doesn't mean taht they have to lose memory power also isn't it? i feel sometimesit maybe mental blocks and the thinking that you are growing old will have an impact on everything isn't it? we also do feel sad that science hasnot got any solution still for this?

the neuron is one of the few cells in the body that do not reproduce, and while you grow, more and more neurons die in our body... no, there isn't anything with spectacular, or even minor results

Maybe you are trying to give some scientific explanation to thisproblem which i maynot believe to be true 100% but, some things i have to agree with you and you have put some facts here....but,other than that i think even scientists has failed to get any medicine for this till now isn't it?

I think it is related to stagnation. People with passion like Picasso, Leonardo da Vinci, Einstein, just to name a few, didn't have that problem. If you keep yourelf busy reding and being active, your memory is working just fine.

yes certainly alienstar. Gradual memory decline is part of normal ageing, such that many elders feel that they have poor memory. Some if not most old people also suffer from dementia which cause a decline in cognitive and intellectual function.
But the loss of memory is also influenced by other factors, such as physical health, lifestyle habits and educational level of the individual. when we grow old we should exercise our minds so and keep a healthy lifestyle so we can combat the loss of memory and rather improve or boost our memory.

Gradual memory decline is part of human beings and you must also be wel aware of the fact that all old people won't be losing their memory like others do isn't it?what is the reason for this now? why didn't scientists find reason for this and scientists haven't baught any mdicine also to memory loss...which is really sad...

Yes, you have got somevalid points here and i do agree with this and i think one who keeps studying remains young an dnot only that, if you are thinking positive it will be positive. So, if you think you are young even when you are old, you will be young...but, scientists haven't got any medicine for this and it's a sad story ....
