I'm finding an issue becoming more and more common here and it's really starting to get on my nerves. I don't normally put posts just to hear myself talk. I usually have an actual issue that I want feedback on. In one of my latests posts, I came across 2 responders in a row who obviously hadn't even read my post. They just read the subject line and responded to that to get their cents out of it. Grrr.. why should I waste my time reading advice that is absolutely not relevant to the situation. This has happened to me on a couple other posts as well. I think that if you are going to take the time to respond, you should at least read the entire post to make sure that advice is relevant to the situation.

I so agree with you. I did a discussion on aprons and received well over 100 comments. I received some good comments and then I received the ones like
"this is too long, dont have time to read"
or "Yep"
I got so aggervated with these people. They were just tring to get a point and that was it. If I am going to comment on something, I am going to take the time to read it.

Welcome to mylot, some people are only here to make money and can't be bothered reading the posts. I find myself reading whole discussions without even a comment. LOL I wouldn't let it get to me after all you do have the ratings button.

I'm the same way. A topic might interest me but I might have nothing to say that someone else hasn't already said. :) Some will post "I agree with you" and that's it. Drives me bonkers! Or they will just say "Yes" or "No" and not give any other information. Obviously they are just trying to rack up posts. If you don't have something helpful to say, don't say anything at all! :)

You are absolutly right. If you don't want to read the discussion why bother to respond it. And some people just respond "I don't know", if you don't know why you are in taht particular discussion to respond. Some people do some crazy things to just make a big no of post.
I have experienced a lot of irelevant responses like that. In one discussion I was asking about sending friend request and someone responded to it with the subject of a dog and feeding the dog. LOL

you are very right. and don't worry mylot takes that into consideration when giving out money. but it's annoying to post something and not getting the answers that go with the post. but you know what, no worries because there is going to be someone who cames along and gives you the feedback you need. so no stress just keep it moving

If you give these posters a "negative" for their repsonses - shouldn't that affect their earnings? I guess that would be the best deterrent.

That's something I've noticed, as well. People like them will get a negative rating from me. I don't appreciate an answer to JUST the subject line. If you want to respond to my discussion, you must read the entire thing! I saw another myLotter do an experiment about the whole thing and I thought it was brilliant.

If it helps you are not alone. I've found the problem to grow at times as well and it gets on my nerves. I could care less if people don't like what I post for a discussion, if my discussion doesn't attract a lot of posters, or if poeple disagree with me. I just want them to actually post to the topic in the discussion not just the subject or a few keywords. I started a discussion yesterday about my cat having allergies. I had a few people post how they are allergic to cats as well. Obviously they didn't bother to read the discussion. They saw the words cat and allergies and boom assumed that's what it was. Well assumptions are the mother of all screw ups. They really make me appreciate the ones who do read through and make comments based on what is there.

I agree with that. The problem is maybe because, people are in a rush to make money. They do not, maybe a few, bother about the issue being discussed. All they want is some quick money. And hence, they want to just type in a few lines and run away. Please keep your patience, since you will find many such posts.

Ooh this gets on my nerves alot too. It just furthers my dim viewpoint of humanity sometimes lol. It's annoying too..it doesn't even give other posters anything to repy to! And if people do reply to silly replies like that they're even worse than the people who posted before them.

I agree with you entirely. In fact when I get answers from people who obviously haven't even read the first few lines then I give them a negative response. I think it is just plain rude that they go into your discussions just to get money and not to properly contribute.

I read the whole discussion. Sometimes if it is a serious issue or the discussion is long I will read it twice to make sure I am understanding it completely. I will not comment until I understand what the entire discussion is asking of me or telling me.

that's what i do, too. if it's too long, i read them many times until i get to understand the whole point of the one who started it. then, i respond. if i really can't understand the whole thing, i don't respond at all. better do that than contribute something that won't help resolve a discussion.

not really... but i want the people that do respond to at least read what they are responding to. I didn't necesarily mean to read this particular post through.. I meant in general.. people should read more than just the subject line before they respond.. or not respond at all if they haven't read the post...
but thanks for responding Athena (such a pretty name.. almost chose it for my first girl :))

there are some members here who are lazy to take some time to read. they just respond to what the title is without knowing that sometimes, the title are just something to get our attention to and that the body is a bit different. if one does not have enough time to read the body of the discussion, then better yet look for a very short discussion to respond to. it's not nice to respond to a topic where your answer is so irrelevant. it's just a waste of time for the person who responded and a waste of time to the one who started the discussion (since he/she will read the responses back and even comment on some). so, better read the whole post first before typing down your words!

And I should be caled imgold. My avatar is a nice golden face. Anyway, imsilver - are you already taken? (Ducks to avoid a slap across the face ...)
In all seriousness, I think that these people don't bother reading the entire post because they're money hungry. I ususally give people who respond with irrelevant explanations a negative rating & then if it's REALLY bad, I report them to MyLot.
I had started a pranks discussion, & idiots merely replied with plain old jokes instead of real pranks, like they don't know the difference to telling a joke & explaining a joke they pulled on somebody. I'd rather have someone tell me I'm a cruel idiot for pulling a prank than someone just telling a joke in my pranks discussion acting like an intelligent idiot. At the same time I started my discussion, someone else started their own discussion & explained a prank he or she pulled, & was disappointed that these intelligent idiots merely posted jokes.
Then there were who probably didn't read the discussions & were just posting, "I don't understand the topic. Please elaborate & go into more detail." These people were posting the exact same thing word for word (more like copy-n-paste) into every discussion they could find. Those goons somehow vanished with their responses.
Anyway, all in all, I agree with that people should read the whole posting & not just the discussion title, as well as read the responses. MyLot guidelines does specify that the responses should be read before adding your response.

I totally agree. I mean, we start a discussion to make people share their thoughts and opinions and eventually learn from them. But there are others who just reply for the mere sake of earning. Example, what do you prefer? This or That? .... There are those who reply with just "This" or "That" without even explaining why they choose one from the other. :(

Oops, I'm guilty of that sometimes (when i want to get one more response in before i have to sign off just to get more $$ in) and I apologise. Sometimes I may not have a good enough answer to the question, but may have had a similar experience so I just post about that experience. Feel free to give me a negative rating.
