An abused society

How many people out there are struggling with the effects of what others have done to them? If we take into account the statistics, then a lot of people we meet have been through pretty rough times. Why is it so important to hide these things from the world? It's not like it was our fault, or our choice, but we are so afraid of stepping up. Does it make us bad people? Are we so different from the rest? It's like a secret community that we try to hide from everyone... shouldn't abused people rather be labled as strong individuals who have beaten the worst of life?

If you speak to anyone more often or not they have had a pretty rough time through their lives. I choose not to tell people who I don't know me what I've been through as I hate to see the 'pityful' looks - What's happened is history and has made me a stronger person for what I've been through. I do not see myself as a victim rather than a strong survivor and whatever life can throw at you I have the ability to pick myself up, brush myself down and carry on. Sadly some can't do this but no one should suffer in silence :-) A touching discussion well put!
