Iam in US now but will soon be returning to India. In my country lot of things are taught to children at a very early stage in their school.Iam preparing my kid to cope up the studies there. She is 4 years old!How will I teach my kid the comparison of numbers. She knows counting, sequencing os no.s etc; but she cannot understand how a no. can be greater. It is a bit abstract to her.Any suggestions please!

You can teach her with things, Such as pennies or blocks ten pennies is more than 5 so on and so forth. That's usually the way they do it in school. They line up pennies on a paper in two rows one group larger than the other and ask the kindsto chose which is greater or more and which is less or fewer. You can get books to help you at Wal-Mart too.

The idea of using 'things' is a great one! You could even put numbers on cards (one number per card) and line the 'things' out beside them so that your child can see that 'three is more than two', etc. It might look like:
(card)(things)
1 *
2 * *
3 * * *
4 * * * *
...and so on. Hope that makes sense!!

this is what i would try .. get some blocks.. do a row of 10 (or any number really) then on block number two add another block on top so its taller, then on block 3 have 3 blocks, on block 4 4 blocks ect ect.. this will give her a visual with the numbers and u can maybe start out teaching her that higher numbers are 'taller'.. another thing u could do is use simple items and make piles.. same with the blocks but just with piles of things.. the larger the number the larger the pile will be..
