I decided 2007 is the time to lose weight, so made a few changes in my life. First, I purchased a water cooler, as I don't like tap water and buying small bottles of water is costly. I placed the water cooler in my office to reduce soda drinking. Next I purchased some clothes perfect for walking and working out and went to the store to buy healthy food, as my house had a lot of junk food. The junk food was donated not thrown out, as I don't like to waste anything.
I did this January 1st, as was determined by my birthday in May that I would be able to be back to the weight I was when I married my husband. Right now, am losing a pound a week and welcome suggestions, as would like to lose two pounds a week.
I am eating 3 meals a day, drinking lots of water and working out 3 days a week. I'm lifting small weights 2 days a week, as don't want to gain more muscle, as can already pick up anyone in my house. I'm a woman and wish to still have some curves. Now I do realize muscle weighs more and this maybe why my weight loss isn't two pounds a week. I'm ready for suggestions, as didn't think it would be so hard to lose weight and I'm over 45.

Im also figure conscious woman, and as i see myself getting fat and starting to gain some weight I always do some thing to lose it...
I used to go to a gym where there are pilates class, and it have done so much, especially on the belly part...
I weigh 130 pounds for a height of 5'7", and my mom told me that its not overweight yet, but i still dont want to see my fats on the thigh part and legs...
Though, i dont recommend surgery or liposuction because i still believe that the tradional balance diet is still the best...
Eating a balance diet and regular excercise is still healthy...
Especially, dont skip meals, for when you do you are compromising your health and when you skip meals, it doesnt help you lose weight because it only slows your metabolism...

I lost about 45 pounds and I found that switching up my workouts helped lose weight. I also had a lot of muscle and didn't want to bulk up any. I was told that getting at least 30 minutes of cardio about 3 days a week will burn a lot of calories. I just had a baby 4 weeks ago and will be ont he path to losing weight again. I have joined a walking group not only for exercise, but to have other people to support me and hold me accountable because it is easy to slip and say "I'll do extra tomorrow". It sounds like you're on a great path. Losing weight slow is a good thing, keep up the good work!

. Make small goals. It is easy to dream about a slender body and make that your goal. This goal does however often end in disappointment. It is better to make many small goals on the way. This way it is easier to reach your goals and you feel that you are making progress which makes it easier to stick to a diet.
2. Avoid junk food: Avoid eating fast food and other junk food. It’s fattening and doesn’t help you lose weight. If you absolutely must eat fast food, give yourself one meal a week when you are allowed to eat fast/junk food.
3. Avoid fried food: Don’t eat fried food but rather grill or boil your food. Avoid using extra fat. .
4. Eat Breakfast: Eating breakfast helps getting the metabolism started. You are also less likely to snack if you eat a good breakfast. .
5. Eat fish and chicken: fish and chicken is low on fat and can make an excellent weight loss diet. Avoid fat fishes. A good cheap weight loss fish is Tilapia. .
6. Start drinking water: Soda and juice contains a lot of calories. Drink water and safe a lot calories. .
7. Start taking walks: Walking one or two times a day isn’t to hard but can help you lose weight faster. All other forms of physical activities are also good. .
8. Eat often: eating many well planned low calorie meals a day helps you keep from snacking and make you feel less hungry. .
9. Don’t expect dream results: There are many diets that promises fast results but permanent weight loss takes hard work and dedication. .
10. Eat fewer carbs: Eat less pasta and bread. Reducing your carb intake is often one of the best methods of loosing weight.
A bonus tip can be to get a dog. A dog need to be walked and will help to get you more active. Never get a dog if you don’t have the time or will to care for it.

I'm working hard to follow all of these tips. Thank you for posting them. The one that I need to work harder on is eating breakfast, specially on the weekends.

You are doing all the right things. Is it working?
After 50, we tend to put weight on more so. I am 59, just lost 10 pounds. I never in all my life, gain too much, as I like being a size 9/10. I just drink a lot of water, eat more in the morning and afternoon, eat less at dinner and skip snacks. That will work for me. Exercise is good, but I don't do it at all, I can't.

Thanks for the reply. I have dropped a size and had so much fun buying new clothes. Its so great now that I can buy ladies size and no more plus size for me. I was so surprised that I had stopped looking like my picture from the neck down. I'm determined to wear the green shirt by the end of 2007.

I think losing a pound a week is wonderful. The only suggestion I would make is that you might want to add a short walk around your neighborhood once a day just to get a change of scenery. It will not only help with your weight loss program, but will keep your spirits up, because it is really easy to get depressed when your routine is very restricted and the same day after day. Good luck, and keep up the good work.

You need overall execise, that mean you should lose weight from everywhere. i WOULD ADVICE YOU TO CUT DOWN FATTY FOOD. Since you are over 45 i would advice you to walk thrice a week at a moderate speed and that to on alternate days so that you do not injure your knees. Start your day with honey and lemon in hot water. Make the three meals you take into six so that you do not feel hungry, but the 3meals = 6meals, i.e. it should be of the same quantity!

Eat food in smaller portion. Use a smaller plate and a teaspoon instead of a tablespoon. Reduce the amount of rice or bread. A little snack. Walking can trim down your body.

I would suggest eating 5-6 small meals instead of 3 meals. I also would suggest maybe eating smaller servings. Don't eat a lot of refined carbohydrates like white bread, white rice, stuff like that. Workout 7 days a week instead of 3 days a week. This will burn extra calories. If you are walking, walk up hills (burns extra calories). If you are drinking regular soda cut it out completely. You seem like you have made some good strides with the weight loss. 1 lb. a week is still good. Good luck!

Thank you and I'm now working out 7 days a week and eating 6 small meals a day. I have been climbing stairs at the mall and now can climb them easily. There is a group of people that mall walk every day and its been great to find other people to get in shape and lose some weight. It was a real wakeup call when a gentlemen passed me at the mall and he was over 70. I will soon be buying clothes for the size I would like to become.

Check out a site called Fitday.com for more ideas. This site will help you to count your calories per day and to track your progress. My husband and daughters have been using this site for awhile and they are very happy with it. My husband currently is only eating 1500 calories per day and is consistantly losing weight. He is making good progress. I hope you will also be able to achieve your personal goals.

I joined Fitday.com and am impressed with the site. Its easy to use and can quickly tell how well I'm doing each day. The site informed me to lose 30 pounds and I'll be at my ideal weight, which is possible by losing two pounds a week. Thanks for your help.

Get the flu. Depending on how active your innards are with expelling things, you could lose up to 20lbs in two days!
I don't recommend this... dear lord do I not recommend this. It's a terrible, terrible things. *shudder*
Now, for a legitimate response: try the South Beach diet. Worked for my parents pretty well.

I am right there with you, i am almost 40 and i am overweight and need to loose weight and i have tried tons of different diets that have failed. I joined weight watchers and it has really helped because it shows you how you still can eat everything you did before just in smaller portions. I dont feel like im on a diet, i just count my points and as long as i stay within my point range its all good. It is a good feeling that you can still eat like the rest of the family and loose weight. If you exercise you get bonus points that are nice if you want to go out to dinner or maybe have a desert you normally wouldn't waist your points on. I am a true beleiver in this program.

It seems to me that you're not doing too bad for yourself right now. Even one pound a week, if it's consistent, is really an accomplishment. The only suggestion that I have for you is perhaps splitting your meals into more, smaller meals. Five to six meals a day is generally considered optimal, and I know that this has helped for me. If you eat about six 300-calorie (or so) meals every day, I think you'll notice a difference.

Your all the steps are right.More you can do is you can go for a daily jogging. This will make cells of your adipose tissues to rub with each others and this will reduce your extra weight by loosing fat over your skin. You can also opt for the electrical belt like SAUNA belt which are widely available. There also come many exercising machines which are helpful for the weight loss.....

you have made some awsome changes good for you! Drinking lots of water is a great way to start the process and I am glad to hear that you are eating healthy and working out. Now my questions are, what kind of exercize are you doing? running? biking? what cardio? also you say you are lifting small weights, what weight are they? Another important question is what time of day you usually work out? The reasons I am asking these things is because...
1. they type of exercise that you do greatly effects how your body sheds the pounds. high impact cardio is the best and it ussually takes less time to show results.
2. lifting weights that are too light will cause no results, for a weight to work without adding too much bult it should be somewhat difficult to lift on your last rep.
3. It is said that you can get best results by exercising first thing in the morning either on an empty stomache or after a light breakfast. this is the peak time for you to burn fat.other than that i think you are doing great perhaps look again at the types of foods that you are eating to make sure they truly heatly and providing enough nutrition. You are doing great though, keep up the good work.
