I enjoy driving but one of my pet hate's is speed camera's and speed traffic signs.
Whilst driving along, I find it very distracting to have to keep looking down at the speedo to see what speed I am actually doing. Its'not only distracting it's damn right dangerous. What do you think?

Well we do have to stick to the law and if we did not have speed camera's and speed traffic signs then people would do what they like most people do what they want to anyway, and they speed a lot in Australia, I hate it the way that the cars think that they have the right of way over everybody else and so we need these to try and prevent dangerous driving, and I hope they get more and book them for this as it is not distracting if you know what you are doing, as if you normally speed at a normal speed you will know when you are speeding.

What I am trying to say is, OK yeh stick to legal limit but it's so easy to go over the limit, before you know it you are speeding. When we have to watch our speedo to see if we are speeding that's when it becomes dangerous. I believe in having safe speed limit's but I reckon car manufacturer's should put a beeper in the car once it's been set to the country's speed limit. This can be done but the customer has to pay extra for it, it should be standard.

Going the speed limit or under saves on gas. Up to 20 cents a gallon.
Going too fast means it takes longer to stop in case of emergency. When in a wreck your damage is more.
If you are doing the speed limit then you don't have to worry about the cameras and the possible tickets. You should as rule and habit check your speed regularly. Your safety and others safety can depend on it.
Becoming a responsible driver will make you more of a joy to have driving.

LOL, you should really be doing the speed limit even if you don't thinkanyone is watching...
I have been driving my truck long enough that I have a good "feel" for how fast I am going, so I don't usually have a problem speeding or looking at the speedometer. Besides it takes less time to look at the meter than it does to sneeze (or take a drink, or change the radio station)and you pick when you do it, so I really don't think it is causing that many accidents. Unless you NEVER do the stuff I listed while driving, I don't think you can really complain about obeying the speedlimit being a "distraction". Sorry. :-)

I love driving, and i love the speed. I used to drive quite fast, obviously over the legal limits, which in spain is 120 kms per hour in highways. But Last year they changed the law, and fines are way more strict. Also, they have installed many more radars, so now i stick to the limits really, very rarely go faster than 120.

I think the speed cameras are good and the signs are good to have to keep people aware of how fast they are going. Maybe a suggestion for car makers could be they install a device that gives you a voice recording of how fast you are driving so you do not have to look at the spedometer. I think there are worst distractions than looking at your speed while driving, like talking on cell phones and putting makeup on or eating while driving.

Ofcourse its dangerous. As you know the SPEED thrills but KILLS.So it is very unsafe to drive so fast and moreover it is more dangerous to misplace your eyes from the path and place it even for a second on the sppedometer. Some companies provide such a management in the stearing of the car and the sppedometer that you need not take a hazardous chance to gaze at ythe speedometer and to find at what speed you are driving out.Goodluck...

LOL, you have a lead foot. I don't really drive to much higher than the posted limit because I normally have my children with me. However, when I am driving alone, I do tend to speed. I agree with you, watching the speedometer can be distracting. The alert for driving over the linit seems like an awesome thing to have but...since the speed limit varies so much when driving, wouldn't it be a BIG distraction to set the alerts as well?

I don't drive as i don't own a car.
Although if i did i would stick to the limit. I'm not a fan of speeding or what our police do to stop it but i'd rather stick to the limit to avoid dangerous situations.
I think speeding is worse than a flash of a camera. most these days don't put the driver off in fact most here don't flash now as the areas are nicely flit. also if people wasn't speeding they wouldn't be put off by the flash. =)
Kudos,
