I like watching tv and reading books equally. But one of my lecturers said it was better to read books. He reasoned it out as follows:In a computer when we store a text document it occupies lesser space compared to that taken by a file which has a image in it.So is the case with our memory. When we read a book, and watch a movie or tv,more space of our memory is occupied by images which could have been utilized in better ways in storing some useful information. So by watching useless stuff we actually end of losing our memory space. Therefore,we must always read good books and when we want to watch something it must be some educative and informative stuff.
Even after this I watch tv more, though these days I am more into mylot!

that's disturbing. i thought it was the reverse, the book makes up for more memory as it needs more concentration to get the right images. Whereas Tv gives you so much images that you just confused them, making you forget all those images. I don't easily forget books and TV, I forget. My point is books occupy more space than all the images I've seen so far. But I have to hand it to you. I'm more into books. lol

I watch television, I'm not much of a reader..I watch television during the week about 4 hours a night and on and off during the weekends.

I prefer books, but in this period I'm very busy with my little son, and so, when my day ends, I'm so tired that I prefer watching TV than reading a good book. When my son will be older I'll start again reading books, now I have more important things to do.

I have to be in the mood to sit down and just read a book; when my favorite authors release something new I am all over it but if it's just a case of being bored, I'll flip on the tele and see what's on. If that doesn't work out, I can always pop in a DVD or see what's happening online.

I read a whole lot more than I watch T.V. I like it more. I can picture the scenes however I want to, see everything exactly the way I want to see it. It is like a movie projection in my head. There is no one else setting out the way it is supposed to be. I like that.

I would prefer to delve into a great book. But when I do, I like to get really into it and read for hours. As a new mom, I don't have the time to do that. As a result, I find myself spending 15-30 minutes at a time taking a break in front of the TV. I wish I was able to break down my book reading time like that.

Hello jackie, I know this discussion is 4 weeks old but I'll help you anyway. Before joining mylot, I always read tons of books and rarely watched TV. I like to read mystery and sci-fi novels. But its been a month now that I never bothered to turn on the TV or flip through pages of my books. I'm totally hooked here on mylot. :)

it s really so tiring to watch television the entire day, i prefer to watch tv for 2-3 hrs, whereas during day time i prefer to read books, newspapers etc. it would have been good if you too have added the computer option, it has become a necessity
