Did it all of a sudden become trendy? Why yes, yes it did, what do you think?

No, actually this is not a new thing at all. Musicians have been politically active through lyrics and songs since the 1960's. Take for example Bob Dylan and his lyrics and songs about the war in Vietnam. Queen also several songs with political roots. Red Hot Chili Pepper's album "Blood, Sugar, S*x, Magik", back in 1991 is another more recent example of politics in music. http://www.oldielyrics.com/lyrics/red_hot_chili_peppers/the_power_of_equality.html If you study lyrics at all, you will find more songs than you ever imagined that have a political agenda.

First of all dude, I think lyrcis should be listened to for enjoyment, not for studying, that pretty much ruins the music, no matter what you say. And second of all, I just want to know why musicians feel the need to sing about politics so much, they don't do anything, okay, spare a few, but all they are doing is whining and singing about the same thing over and over again, whatever happened to creative ingenuity in music. Like Phish, or Clapton, y' know? All people care about now is a message, no one just wants to write good music and have fun, it's all so serious and has an "agenda," just sad is all
