Toddler Beds

We were given a toddler bed - and it's really nice! It's a wood frame with sides about halfway down to keep a toddler from rolling off into the floor...and you just put the crib mattress into it when your child is old enough to use it. The thing is, since it was given to us, I'm not exactly sure when my daughter is old enough to transition out of the crib and into the toddler bed. We do foster care, babies only, so it would be nice to free up the crib, but I don't want to rush things...I can always get another crib if I need to. I'd still like some input/guidelines as to when children move from the crib to the toddler bed. THANKS!

I've seen some parents transition at 18 months, some at 2 and some at 3. It's really up to you and your daughter. Mine is almost 2 and still in a crib. He doesn't try to climb out of it and he's tiny for his age. So, I think he will be in the crib for a little while longer.
