is it normal to forget something the minute you think of it.

February 16, 2007 4:42pm CST
i am a bit concerned lately that the minute i think of something the thought disappears almost immediately . i have always been a bit like this but i feel its getting worse . i have a terrible fear of alzheimers and senile dementia as my granny died from it. i do the normal stuff, go in a room , stand blankly and think .. what did i come in here for ?i walk out again , remember and go back in and get it . is it early dementia or just stress?i have to write everything down or i forget and if i forget to get something the kids ask for i feel so bad .

i am like that, too. whenever my boyfriend and i are chatting and i have something interesting in mind to tell him, i get to a point telling him, "i know i need to tell you something but i kinda forget it". he finds it funny and tells me not to worry about it. but i do worry about it since i really wanna share that thing i forgot with him. and yep, i remember it after sometime. and we laugh at it because sometimes, it's just shallow stories to tell. haha. sometimes, i also go somewhere needed to get something there but can't remember what it is. sometimes i totally forget it and sometimes, i can recall. should we go get see a doctor? just like you, i am scared that it might lead to something worst. whew. i hope not!

I wouldn't worry too much. It happens to me every now and then. I'll sit down at my desk and completely forget what I was going to do. Or I'll walk into a store and completely forget what I was there to buy. Or one major thing is not being able to remember if I locked my car door as I'm walking away from it. But I don't worry too much about. It's just annoying more than anything but I think it's something that happens to most everyone.

well, i just get absent minded and it got worse when i was pregnant because my mind was just somewhere else at the time. is there a lot on your plate right now?? if you do have a lot your mind is just thinking and thinking of course you'll forget some things and even what you're doing. i would consult a doctor if you're really concerned. there are also books you can get to help you remember things and of course exersises as well. this may help. but the best thing to do is consult your doctor tell him whats going on and tell them your concerned because of your family history. it may be early signs and i'm sure you know that. maybe there may be some treatment you can take to help who knows.

This happens to lots of people. I do it myself and even my grandchildren. I often ask hem to go upstairs or into another room for something, and a few minutes later, they would ask me what it was I had asked them to do. By then I proabably would have forgotten it also. I also write everything down, but only because I am too lazy to try to remember it. I think it is called 'lack of concentration'. I am the worlds worse at trying to concentrate. I can't even read a book without going back to the previous page to see what it was about. Don't worry about it. We all tend to forget.

Well forgetting is human tendency, that is gods gift. Why? Its healthy if we forget what bad have happened and live in present and for the future. This problem occurs when you think more about happenings, just relax to do and give the best while at work but take time for easing out stress. Think of some funniest moments. Its all what we think, tell to yourself that everything i fine and then go on. Believe in yourself. Just give the best never try to evaluate what will it result, if you are doing good. Communicate with your fiends, family, colleagues and contacts then you will get to know life is beautiful gift. Enjoy it every moment. Bless you!

superbren, My opinion is that this is normal; due to stress or having too many things on your mind at once. I have the same problem when there's too much on my plate. If possible, prioritize things and take some time to relax. Also, I've found that quite time away from the TV noise helps. If you change some things and the problem persist, get help but; don't worry as that causes more stress. all the best, God's. countdown21.com

yes it is normal especially when we're getting old, our brain cells stop reproducing, so to enhance our memory we need to have memory exercises like trying to memorize poems, songs or quotes. answering crossword puzzles and playing chess is a mind exercise too because it pushes our minds to work and think, a lot. i too, experience forgetting something which is already in my mind.

I do this a lot but I know I have adult ADD so its normal. I try to always write stuff down ASAP and then its a little easier. I still do this though. I get distracted, walk in the room and go WHY did I come up here? It takes me SEEING something to recall what I came from. But in my case its normal for having ADD to do this.

alzheimers in early to mid stages is treatable and can be pushed back with medication. i believe you should consult your doctor about it because you've a family history. the worry is causing you stress, and if your problem is caused by stress, the worry and stress is ironically making the problem worse. stress is also treatable. my 70 year old mom is as sharp as a tack but she'd loose an elephant in the bathroom. she's always been like that. she has no alzheimers in her family history, but there's a long history of forgetfulness. my theory is as we get older our brains get very crowded, like overstuffed china shops with memories, thoughts, dreams, so on. it's easy to loose stuff in there. i'd worry if you forgot what the key was for, not where you put the key. that's how my mom puts it.

Dont worry about it. Just in case, you could go over the checklist to see if you share any of the sympoms of alzhiemer's, but I think you're probably fine unless you are forgetting major maror things in your life. I have that problem a little bit, and I'm still a teenager. Both of my parents, and my sister, and pretty much all of my relatives deal with that from time to time.

I think it's normal for me because I have always associated it with having 3 cesareans and having had anesthesia given to me before. Or it can also be because of all the things you have in your head if you have alot of things going on ofcourse.

It's part of my life that I forget what I thought of a minute ago. It's very annoying but I can't change it so I don't care much. My girlfriend has the same problem, when she wants to say me something sometimes she forgets it before she gets her mouth open. And I'm not even 21, maybe alzheimer light...

Lol. yeah it happens, and it can be very frustrating to try to get a grasp of that thought again. What I usually do when that happens to me is I try to trace back my train of thoughts that lead to the the currently one. Sometimes that helps but other times the thought is just lost in oblivion.

man i'm exactly the same way, people have told me all kinds of things, from eating more vegtables to takeing all kinds of pills, but what has worked the most is to keep reminding yourself constantly, which kind of makes you stressed, but it works
