Were you a tom-boy, or a "girlie girl" when you were growing up?

So - for the girs - when you were a child, were you a tom-boy - always playing with the boys, and climbing trees, and hating pretty "girlie" things, or were you the sort of girl that loved ribbons, and dolls, and pretty dreses? And are you still fundamentally the same now? Or have you changed?
And for the guys - do you like your women to be "feminine" in the obvious ways, or do you prefer a woman who can do the DIY, and change a tyre on the car as well as you can - if not better! LOL!
Oh, and before anyone asks - I admit I was the original "girlie girl" - I hated sports, I refused to wear trousers as a child (LOL!), I loved pretty party dresses, and ribbons in my hair, and I cried if I ever got my clothes or hands dirty! And have I changed? No - probably not - LOL! I still love wearing jewellery, and make-up, and fashionable clothes, and I'm useless at anything practical!!

i was definatley a tom boy when i was growing up. i had an older brother and i never had girl toys. i played with his blocks, and action figures. i was big into basketball and i was the very tough girl when i got to high school and i got into a lot of fights. i even joined the wrestling team in high school for a while.
i'm nothing like that now.

I have been constistently girlie-girlie. I can still remember that I could already wear my mother's shoes with high heels when I was 5 years old. I have the flair for fashion at a very young age. For me then, it was important to be presentable at all times-- and being presentable means being able to dress like a lady and to act properly at all times. But now, I think I got tired of thinking day in and day out of the clothes that I will wear or how my face would look like. i guess I have reached the saturation point of my vanity and I am not contented with just dressing to be okay for the occasion.

I am absolutely hopeless with DIY and flatpacks, so I would like my partner to be fully DIY competent. Although I like to see myself as fully domesticate and I would never expect or view a woman's place as being 'in the home' I suppose if you look at my career it's always been female orientated! I mean it is lets face it unusual for a man to be a secretary as well as a man wanting to work with children? Sometimes I wonder if I am confused LOL! I seem to be too feminine, OMG that sounds bad! Maybe I've got my roles well out of sync, maybe it was more macho I wouldn't be single. Although I would never wear the skirt or I'm not fond of jewellery either and I definitely don't wear make up! What's the male version of a tom boy? jane girl maybe

Well David Beckham wears a skirt from time to time, AND his wife's underwear if rumour is to be believed, - and it hasn't done him any harm.

Hey there.. well i used to be (and still am to some extent) more tom boyish than girlish. when i was young i was into short hair, sports,no PINK and loved to play with the boys.. now that i am older i am still a bit tomboyish in my dressing sense - i prefer shoes to sandals, loose jeans to tight low waist ones..- no make up, you know ? my guy has made more girlish lately coz he loves pink and eye makeup so for him i've started wearing.. and ppl like it and compliment me so i've stuck to it :) also since college i've been wearing my hair longer (below shoulder) too.

Well, I finally see where we are totally different, Rosie, lol! I wasn't a tomboy in that I didn't like sports or being active.. I never climbed trees, or anything like that, lol. But I never was into dressing up or wearing makeup. I might have been a girly girl if my mother had been one, but she never dressed up or wore makeup herself, and I didn't have anyone else around me to influence me in that way when I was young enough to be influenced, so I grew up not learning about those things. I also feel more male in other ways, too, like how I enjoy math. But emotionally I'm definitely all female, lol. I am a hopeless romantic, and I'm a bit boy crazy, lol. Anyway, I'm trying to be more of a girly girl now, but it's hard when you weren't raised that way. I just want to dress up nicer and start learning about makeup. But at 31, with no one physically around to help me, it's pretty hard, lol!

I think I was a little of both when I was growing up. I was very into 'My Little Pony', but I was also a huge 'Turtles' fan. I did the tomboy thing, by constantly going on 'adventures', making dens... basically, I wanted to be in the 'Famous Five'. On the other hand, I still went home and played with my 'My Little Pony Kitchen'.

When I was coming up I was more of a "tom boy" and it bothered the crap out of my mom who wanted a cute little girlie girl. I hated all the frilly dresses she would get me or any dolls. I would always rip the heads off the dolls and use them to kick around and play sports with. I would cut the dresses up and sometimes dye them with fabric dye. (I hated pink, and still do) I was pretty obnoxious about it as a child and only wanted to play sports with boys.
Now I am still not girlie but I do wear things that are more feminine (Not pink) and do my makeup and all that but I still prefer the company of men and physical activities and sports.

I didn't really go through the boyish stage that other girls would have gone through when they were kids...
But if I recall it correctly I wasn't that much of a girly girl either....
I would have to say I am just a normal young girl who played with boys and girls, enjoyed barbie and dolls but also had fun playing physical games...

I was always a bit of a tomboy when I was a kid. I wasn't keen on dolls and ribbons, more climbing trees and getting dirty. I was a terror out on my roller skates or bike, always getting into mischief and usually getting caught. By the time I reached my teens I was still a little like that but began to take more interest in the girlie things. However, I was lucky in that I was also practical minded so while I could be quite happy wearing dresses and jewellery, I was quite capable of doing DIY and other things around the house.
I don't think I have changed too much over the years, I still have my moments of being a tomboy :-)

I was such a tom-boy, first because there were only boys in my neighborhood and secondly it was just natural for me. I loved climbing trees, play sports and hanging our in the tree house with the guys. Have I changed? Na, I am still the tom-boy just softer and not quite as dirty...lol

I was a combination. I started out very girly, totally into princesses and dress ups and frilly dresses. Around 5th garde I staretd liking to wear jeans and sneakers and play sports. I'm definitely more of a girly girl as an adult.

As a kid I was definitely a girlie girl. You coldn't get me in a pair of jeans! Even though now I prefer jeans or slacks I still MUST wear my make-up and my hair has to be styled to near perfection! I'm also a big fan of fragrance!
I just adore being a woman.

I was tomboy, I hated dolls as a child but collect them now strangely. I had short hair and didn't like dresses I also enjoyed climbing trees and hiding in bushes and building bases as we called them.
I'm more girlie now definitely I have really long hair now too, it was never short by my wishes anyway, I was just to young to brush it myself.

When I was growing up I was a big tomboy. I wan't into sports or anything I just enjoyed being outside playing, getting dirty, I never enjoyed any of the girl only toys, and hated skirts or dresses
In the past few years though I have changed a lot. I don't want to go outside and get dirty and now I'd rather be in a skirt.
