For those of you who know me, you probably noticed I dont start too many. I'm trying to be polite and not just write rubbish so I am very selective generally over discussions I start.
SO often in here I read so many posts which I think you will see aren't very.....interesting. While everyone might not be hanging on my every word I would hope you would think they are thought provoking (ignore the ommelette one).
My question is - How many or how little do you think is the right number of discussions to start per day/week.
I would say I am generally a good commentator on my responses and I really do think stuff out well so I just want to know how many is a good number to keep people interested.
So many poeple must visit my profile and go "nothing new again!"
And I know starting discussions doesn't get you more money. im not here for the money!!!

Personally I don't start discussions much. Sometime two or three in one day and sometime nothing for three foure days. I don't see it is an obligation to start discussions everyday. Some of my friends do start that much discussions that I had to turn the notify button of for those particular friend. They just flooded my inbox with their discussions and because of that I had to miss some of my friend's discussions. I don't think when you start a lot of discussions you can attract more people. That makes our friends irritate.

yeah i totally agree with you there and i think if you dont post as many and throw in the occasional funny one - like my ommlette one - then people can appreciate the humour of it more.

Oh go on Claire - the omelette one was great:-)) Personally, I don't think there is a right, or wrong number - it's all down to personal choice, and what feels right for you. I am not a prolific thread starter either - I would rather start 1 or 2 topics a day, sometimes not even that number - that are good for discussion, and get people interested, than daft one-line questions like "what is your favourite colour". But I think in a commuity like MyLot, there s room fr all dfferent people, and all dfferent ways of working, so just do what you feel happy with. At the end of te day - it is not a competition - just a way to have fun, and hopefuly meet some like-minded people, and become friends. Oh and by the way - I made omelettes last night - must have been your effect on my subconscious mind!!!

You can't ignore omelettes, they are just far too important for that.
I've not posted many discussions yet, don't always have time, and when I do start one, I want it to be topical, interesting and if possible humourous, unless its a series topic like global warming and environment, which I intend to post in the next couple of weeks. I don't think there should be a hard and fast rule about starting new discussions except if no-one started any then MyLot would soon finish.
Time is also needed to reply to people who respond to your discussions (not that I need much time for that as My average number of responders is in single figures), and also time to respond to other peoples discussions.

Well I had a wee nosy through your discusssions the other day and i did notice that you didnt have many.
this is kinda the point i am trying to make. how many to keep people checking your profile for new ones. ive noticed that it can take a few days for some o fmy best buddies to accidentally catch wind of a discussion ive started probably becasue they dont check my profile.
and ommlettes.....well i suppose you may be right. they do need some more credit.they are so quick and simple to make and full of protein and need more credit where its due

I try to write quality discussions, rather than quantity, and also about subjects which interest me. I don't always get a lot of spare time and can suffer from 'Writer's Block'. I get some ideas but don't always get them written down in a way that would be easy to publish here.

I think you are doing good :) you shouldn't be posting more, I don't want to read more of your discussions anyway :)) just kidding lol. I see people here complaining that they can't find enough good discussions to respond to, i have the opposite problem ..as I choose my friends carefully I end up with more good discussions daily than what i can respond to .. personally I start about 2 or 3 discussions a week, sometimes a bit more and other times non for a week or 2, I don't think of it as an obligation or a job, i just start discussions when i feel like it, that's it.
PS. Yes you have good discussions and good comments on responses, keep'em coming :)

Sorry that i frightened you, I have a weird since of humor sometimes :)
As for friends, yes I also hate those who just "collect" friends and never respond to their discussions or communicate with them, obviously they are just selfish or don't understand how mylot works.. I think it will be nice if mylot let us attach a comment when we request friends, I would be very interested to read why one has chosen me and for sure I would like to explain why I want to be someone's friend.

Lol when i started reading your comment i got the fright of my life. i know that you are a good responder to my topics and my image of my amazing topics suddenly cam ecrashing down and i thought you really meant they were crap. good one.
i do choose my friends carefully. i knock back a few people daily because i dont know them and i havent even seen them reply to any of my discussions so i cant understand why they're buddying me. another thing i take into consideration when people are buddying me is how many buddies they already have.

in the beginning iwas posting alot..yesterday i didn't post any..today i think i posted three..i am also coming to the conclusion that posting less is more..ithink 3 to five a day is not bad if one has a whizz brain..or just a few a week..depends on how much time you have on mylot..

I think it is very important that you put thought into your discussions. If you are not here just to earn money then I don't see that there is any limit. If you have several great discussion topics in one day that is fine or if you don't have one for a week that's fine also. Quality discussions and responses are the most important thing, not how many.

I don't think there should be a limit placed on the number of discussions a person starts. I think the big thing is remembering to keep them qualitative. There are a lot of posts here which really aren't very ...interesting (I like that word, lol) however I think lately mylot has taken more of an interest in deleting these posts and hopefully people will soon start to realize that they cannot get away with starting discussions without quality.

A discussion should be started when one feels like getting a few opinions on a topic.I dont think one should restrict it to some number but be free to express it when one feels like it.
I started 2 discussions but never got much response ,so I would like to know the secret of getting responses.I am sure you must have a good experience of this dicussion site.Anyways this site has very little cents to offer so that should not stop from starting a discussion.

Sometimes I find it dissapointing what makes it to the top discussions. I think alot of it is not worthy of so much attention and I get a little disappointed when I see spammers making it to the front page. But hey, what can you do. I know at least Im trying to follow the rules and be interesting.
I find myself the ones I most enjoy are the ones that make me do a bit of research.
I participated in one where the guy told us he was form Brazil and he put a picture of the flag and explained it all to us. I actually had to research the Scottish flag because I didnt know what it represented and I told him all about. that is such a simple topic but i thoroughly enjoyed it because i learned so much.

I don't think that there is a certain "good" number. If you have something you'd like to bring to the community, bring it on! If you don't, keep joining in other discussions. It's ridiculous to start a discussion on tons of topics that aren't interesting.

Good luck in your plan of learning english on here. I have already noticed myself how poor the english written on here is. It is afterall the internet though and of casual tone so not much emphasis is put on good use of language.
Good luck anyway.

I think there is no number to little or too big. its more of the quality than quantity of post. Lets face it. most people here are posting because they want to earn money. I hope they should understand that mylot is compensating us on the post we make and we should give mylot a good one in return to there goodness.

I am very new to the Mylot community so I have yet to get used to the way things work and what to post. I haven't responded to too many discussions yet, however the ones that I have seen are very interesting. The content varies. I notice a lot of "What is your favorite food" type posts, and I think that I'm more likely to comment on something with more content to it. Just my opinion...

you should go to my profile and check out my buddies. their discussions i think are of high quality.
always check back on topics you have posted on because often the person who started will leave you a comment like i am now.
good luck here on mylot and dont let it drag you too far frtom the real world.

It really depends on how much you want to make and how desperate you are for cash. It's not like you're required to READ the discussions, and if you do, post a nice response so you can make money off of it too. I'm not complaining.

Well that varies from person to person , for last 30 days I have not posted anything as nothing new has come to my mind. Posting just for the heck of it is the reason that many a posts are uninteresting and repeated too often, so it is better not to post anything until and unless topic is new and interesting, that is how I feel about posting.

I suspect quality is going to be more effective than quantity, in the long run.
There are a lot of frivolous posts on my Lot, and I tend not to respond to them.
I have only started a discussion, on average, opnce per day, and thats only been the past week.
I am trying to increase it, but only if I can think of reasonable topics.
There is not a lot of point in beginning discussions at a high rate, if very few people respond.

I totally agree with you. Sometimes, it will took me an hour before I found some topics that will catch my eyes. I tried to come up with a suitable answers. I do not mind if I answered 10 discussions a day. Some discussions here are generally the same. Happy posting!!!

I totally agree with you, I try to do the same myself and be selective of what topics I start up. Actually, I only start a topic if it's something I really want to know. So somedays it's two, somedays it's zero. Some people are able to produce a great lot of interesting topics too though, so it's not nececarrily bad. It just depends on how much time you are willing to spend here and how many questions you have..

Well i guess, the mroe you make a response, the better off you will be. As many as you can do, as long as you are enjoying it, and yuo lvoe your work, so why hesitate..? I have to be frank, I am here to earn extra money, not just for myself but for my brother as well who is in college taking up nursing studies. So I believe Mylot can help me even with his daily allowance...
