My favorite part is when Tom Hanks tells his soldiers about his life before the war and what he feels about saving Private Ryan. He feels that he's changed a lot by the war. He's killed a lot of enemies and also sacrificed the lives of his own men during battles. He feels that he's becoming more and more estranged from the life he had before the war by killing people. However, he believes that saving a life (the life of Private Ryan) amid a war where everybody is killing and killing more will bring him back to the life he used to have and finally to humanity.

My favortie part is the opening part of the movie where the soldiers carry out D Day attack on Normandy Beach. That scene shows the how war kills people by every second. That is shockingly sad.

Overall, I liked Spielberg's straight-up approach with this movie. He doesn't glorify the violence, hide it, or try to over exaggerate it. The whole movie, not just the violence, is done this way.
The D-Day landing on Normandy is one of the most honest portrayals I have ever seen.
I also liked the relationship between Captain Miller and Private Ryan, all parts of it, especially how Private Ryan tells Miller that he has to stay with the only brothers he has left.

My favorite part of the movie is when Capt. Miller (Tom Hanks) tells his soldiers how to destroy the German tanks with "sticky bombs". A soldier then questions him if he's making it up. Capt. Miller then explains to them that it's in the field manual. The soldiers didn't have their field manuals so he explained to them how to make one. It just shows how a great leader he is and how resourceful he is by maximizing all the available armaments they have against the mighty German army they about to face.
