A word of warning about Online Scams.........

I very rarely enter into any topics here about making money online, but I am getting increasingly worried about loads of the threads here inviting people to join all these different make money online sites. I am sure a few of them are genuine, but, I have so many reservations, especially about these sites that want you to download software, toolbars etc. I have very strict security in place on my home PC because I sometimes work from home, and it is nstalled and vetted by the security guys from my Company for their own security, and one of my colleagues has been telling me just how dangerous it is to download all this stuff onto your PC. They could be scanning your computer, making notes of your bank details, and credit cards, reading your private emails, noting down each keystroke you make to learn your passwords, and all your private business, and then deling them on to people. Almost anything illegal in fact. So PLEASE people - I know many people are desparate for money, but please be careful. There are sites out there like MyLot, and some of the paid to read email sites, that do genuinely pay, and don't ever expect you to install dodgy software, or download anything -so try to stick wth those, or earning a bit of cash on line could lose you a whole lot more. Thanks for reading.

Oh I know exactly what you mean. I never invest in anything claiming they need a start up fund and as for those programs like "SLASHMYSEARCH" I would not make the mistake of downloading anything again after that one. I downloaded that tool bar the other day the first time I ever trusted something like that because someone here message me and recommend it well that tool bar was useless and could barely find anything as well as gave my pc 2 viruses. After actually reading the agreement closley there was a spot in there that said you could possibily get viruses with their tool bar. So your very right, I would not trust anything you have to invest in or download. Most I find are a waste of time and as for these forums Im not to worried about being scammed because all you really lose with a paid forum is time which still sucks. I think this was a decent topic since I have noticed the same as you lately with the lot of promoting of sites that you need to download stuff from. Its not safe in my eyes. I to have promoted sites on here from time to time but they are only these forums because i dont want to refer a site that will wreck your computer or waste time.

Great post, and I agree - especially about the SlashmySearch one. I have been really dubious of that one ever since I read the owner is already trying to sell the site on eBay! Sounds like a scam to me, and I doubt anyone will get paid!

No - this site is FINE. It pays on time, and is legal, and you are paid for the work you do. You have nothing to worry about!

The moment when somebody asks u about regarding the credit card details and other stuff...its surely scam since the real paying one sites are ones those who nevr ask for your details but always ask for specific stipulated amount of information such as the paypal account and stuff and nuthing else....

Yes, this is a good point that you have mentioned. Spams via email are more genuine now and we have to be extremely careful to not to fall into the trap.

i totally agree with u ... there are so many websites who have done what u have mentioned, its much better to install antivirus as well as firewall for ur computer.... and also incase if u are not doin anything on the net watchout for ur internet activity. if there is some activity then try to trace what exactly is happenin. for this reason u can use a sniffer..... Happy posting

Possibly was some of the several sites that wanted to do like that but had also some that really paid us for the work that was done by us, so the core than that was care in seeing the opportunity from sites that offered the production of the addition from the world of the internet.

Good advice Rosie and you are right we just don't know what's going on. I'm sure there are so many scams out there right now. I think with all this computer technology comes people who find ways to rip people off. I do think we have to be careful and for sure not download anything. I much prefer a public forum like this where I can come and post and that is it. You can never be too careful.

I'm too naive. I always fall for that kind of crap. Darn it! LOL! I actually signed up for slashmysearch. Lately I'm wondering why I can't seem to be able to connect to the site. Now I know why. Thanks for the heads up! It's good of you to post this discussion for people like me *argh*.

Yes, internet is full of scam, I became a victim of those. But I have to say these that not all programs that requires member to download a surfbar were scam. Agloco is mentioned here already, I signed up to this program 'coz I know that founders of these program had proven themselves already. They are the first ever company to have a Chief Privacy Officer (Ray Everett Church) to protect the privacy of their members. Agloco is a reincarnation of AllAdvantage (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AllAdvantage)
If you dont want to get scam do your homework, research about the company before you sign up. Forums are great source. Dont ever join to a programs that requires you to invest money.

I agree with you. I think that these posts shouldn't be allowed on this site as it isn't fair if people sign up to a scam without realising that it might be one.

Thanks and I agree, that you do have to look out and be careful of what is out there. It can be hard and I will say it can be hard for those who are working hard to get their referrals or what have you . I have been very lucky and very good about making sure that I check out everything before I sign up for it....kudos and hope you are finding that extra cash you need for yourself even. I wil say that Mylot is a great way to make a little extra cash here.

I've been wondering about a site called "Agloco" where people are to download some kind of toolbar and apparently you get paid just for searching. The site hasn't launched this "toolbar" yet but apparently it's supposed to be coming sometime in March. Does anyone have opinions about this?

This is a good topic and I do agree with you. I usually take care in where I go to and download. I do not download all that often. I do not give out my personal banking info either. There are just too many things going on out there now to let your personal information out.

Yes your advice is definately should be heed, all webmasters or online surfer should be aware of downloading such stuffs which you do not know what it is, for some and i mean programmers maybe will decompile the software and have a good look on the code to cehck what is the data will be sent to the server and etc. It is time for me to get another computer, one for transactions, and another for surfing.

They say that all free things like pop up blockers, spyware blockers and such are free because they get to spy on you. Stay away from those. I hope my AVG anti virus doesn't have anything...

Thanks for posting this, I am getting tired of seeing these posts and am ready to take a break from posting for awhile just because I have to sift through them and all the other crap threads.
Downloading a toolbar onto my computer for something like that would be a huge no no.
